I would in a heartbeat. But I can't since I have spent so much money buying games, leveling up my account, etc. I couldn't even force myself. to leave. The only way I could ever see myself leaving is if the opposing platform allowed me to transfer my entire library at one time. No like how GOG does timed transfers.

I have a little over 2000 games on my steam account and I can see myself trying out (and maybe staying with) GOG Galaxy 2.0 when that hits. If it does what they say it will (adds all your games from all launchers into one place) then I might start buying more games from other services..

I like Uplay interface, simple and light. But the regional pricing and the variety on Steam makes It hard. I don´t know anything about other gaming platforms yet.

It´s interesting what GOG is doing compiling all your friends and games, but having 1 gaming OS for all companies seems impossible.

Well it is like going to a conveniance store.
There is the one i am used to, i know all the products, Specials, Discount cycle and so on. So i shop there because it benefits me the most it is the most conveniant Location to go. Everything i want can be bought there i only need to go elsewhere for some premium things..
Then there are the others i look at occasianaly, i dont find the products so easy, i do not know the products, Specials and so on. So i am going back to the conveniance store i am so used to.

This is like i see steam as a launcher.
The overview is top compared to Uplay, Origin, (Former Games for Windows Live as well). For example on Uplay i cant find what i own from a game and what not.
Never used GOG, or Epic.

Because of this i see everything that gets released with a possible activation for the Steam Launcher.
The other launchers are barely launched so i do not notice a single game that gets released there. (Exceptions when People start to talk About that on steamgifts for example)

Now if we look at the stores.
Steam, Humble Bundle, Games Panet, Fanatical and so on. Most of the time i only buy there because i get an email notification from Isthereanydeal that a certain game that is on my Wishlist (Steam Launcher) has a Discount.
For Uplay, Origin i wont notice anything so i wont buy there even if i could safe a few Cents or Euros.

My time is simple to valuable to constantly monitor Prices for different launchers and check if i want it or not.

Perfect Solution would be to let the customer choose for which Launcher he wants a game or if he wants it DRM free if possible.
Which are a high percentage of games using the Steam Launcher anyway.

If it was not clear enough.
I see the Launcher and the Store as two completly different parts.
I allready buy from other stores, but i use the Steam Launcher for 99% of them.

Would i completly switch to the Epic Launcher, Uplay, Origin, GOG? Most likely not.
Would i buy on Epic Store, Uplay Store, Origin Store, GOG Store if they would let me buy a game activation for the Steam Launcher? Yes i would.

The most prominent reason i would stick with steam is because they accept any game (Ok not all but most).
I do not need an entitled store to make pre decisions what is good or not.

I hope everything is understandable and not to mucht babbling ;)

I really like steam. If another platform offered the same functionality, but with certain quality of life improvements I think steam is lacking mainly library management then yes. But from what Iv'e seen of Steam's competitors, Steam really is the best of the bunch

As it currently stands, no. No platform has anywhere near the selection of steam, nor the ease of use, and if they had steam's userbase all of them except maybe GOG would be even more greedy and inept at managing the things Valve has issues with.

If hypothetically they all had the same selection of games then I might consider switching to GOG, the features it lacks (besides the games themselves) compared to steam aren't as big of a deal and I'd trade them for DRM-freeness. All the other clients are at best not bad enough to stop me from buying an exclusive but still not my preference, at worst actively bad enough to make me pretend they, and any games exclusive to them, don't exist.

I have a lot of games on Steam but I also have a lot of games on GoG and a fair share of games on Origin/Battle.net/Uplay. It's not about platform loyalty for me, it's just a service thing... if you have a decent distribution platform and don't do shitty moves I'll use it, if not I'm not interested

Steam remains my main platform for games, but i'm also a satisfied console player. Both my Xbox One and PS4 are used regularly.

Nah I like steams dynamic more than anything, I enjoyed using steam even when all I had was 5 games and access to free games, I enjoy the community, being able to discuss things, share screenshots and a bunch more "social" things with ease.

I hate human communication but steam does it in such an inpersonal and yet personal way that makes it an enjoyable experience, it's basically a cool version of Facebook that's just for gamers and has a store with decent discounts integrated into it

I wouldn't. I like many things about Steam. The only true alternative that I would be willing to consider is GOG but it would be hard to resign from having both.

I like Steam. Steam is my friend. But it's not my only friend. It does not matter.. As long as the games I want to play runs smooth ✌
But GoG Galaxy 2 looks like a fun luxury. Not needed, but neat. Sort of like a Gaming-Chair-Toilet combo. 👍

I'm hoping for GOG CONNECT to connect my full Steam library (like it did for few games).
The only thing I dislike about Steam is that when I share a game with family I can't play anything at that moment or I'll take them out of the game.

They are connecting the platforms like a network of digital String-phones, sure.
They are not giving every user in the world free (GoG) copies of all their owned Steam games. 😋

Just to be clear. He was referring to the GoG Connect feature. =)

Why does it have to be one or the other in the first place? Let people decide for themselves! I have no problem with other platforms existing, unless they are actively bad (and EGS is pretty fucking bad). But why make games exclusive to one store? That's anti-consumer. Just have the same products on every store, and let people decide where they are gonna buy their games from! PC is one platform, imagine this being the case for Xbox for example. You can buy your HALO directly from Xbox Games Store, but certain other Xbox games you have to buy on another storefront. Makes no sense!

Imagine you go shopping for groceries every day, and there's this really nice shop just 100m away from your home. You get your eggs, your milk, your cereals, vegetables, coffee, water, meat, whatever, there. It's a clean, well sorted store, with nice clerks. And one day only the coffee is not purchasable anymore. You get everything, except the coffee. The store owner tells you the only other place to get your coffee is about 5 miles away, in a new store, that hasn't established its customer base yet, the clerks are pretty rude and in a bad mood, and it's not even cleanly! Also, all the products are unsorted on the shelves, without any care. But it's the only place you get your coffee!

I'd rather stop drinking coffee, than going the long way every day just for one product into a dump like this.

I'm quite OK with Steam. I mean, not that I'm too attached, but it's hard to imagine a service working better than Steam nowadays.

Most other stores are quite terrible. Microsoft Store is a complete mess, Epic lacks all features one would expect from a store, Origin and Uplay are relatively "meh" (stuff is hard to find, content poorly organized, with huge images and little useful information). GOG is not bad, but it's in a different league.

They'd have to impress me quite a lot if they wanted me to switch.

To be honest having a Steam backlog has absolutely nothing to do with where I will buy my games in the future.
If I'll have a better financial standing I will give an adventage for GOG / Humble (with DRM) on Steam itself, but even beforehand I wasn't a big purchaser on Steam itself. It's the cheap bundles. If I'll have good bundles for other sites, I'll buy them, and if individual games cost about the same as on Steam, I rather buy it elsewhere.

I believe we will be playing on Google Stadia in 10 years from now. No need to upgrade your computer to play the latest games, no more video game consoles. I won't say I'm not attached to my Steam account, I try to feed it only with good games, but things are changing, I no longer buy video game magazines like I used to in the 90's. I liked it, but it's over.

I would go back to my old roots, minus the floppy discs and cds. Just hoard/torrent everything I can grab and then catching a trillion computer STD-s. I only use steam because I dont have to worry about the files, but if I could get everything off of it, like GOG, I wouldnt be here talking about it.

Steam isn't the platform, it's just the store. Windows is the platform.

I own games in Steam, GOG, Origin, Uplay, and now Epic. It's kind of a pain keeping track but really looking forward to GOG Galaxy 2.0, hoping that helps. I have no allegiance to Steam whatsoever.

To answer your question as objectively as possible, I did a bit of substitution.

Would you guys switch to another house if you weren't so invested in your current home?

The answer, for me at least (and provided I could only choose one) would be yes, but only if that house offered more and if I could take everything in the old house with me.

However, since I don't know of any game client that "lets you take everything with you", realistically I'd just have to be content with using multiple clients.

Tbh, I'll probably chose GOG as my preferred platform due to DRM-Free and of course they are also great Devs. I am looking forward to Galaxy 2.0 but although I applied I was not selected. Perhaps because I wasn't using it often enough, close to none tbh. Its the crowd that has been on Steam much like the crowd on Windows. However, its much easier to switch platforms in this case. Discounts, bundles, also play a great part. Cheers~

Steam's overall package in my opinion wipes the floor with anything else out there with GoG a distant second. With galaxy, it closes the gap a bit but until it actually rivals steam's service, I don't see myself moving for a long time.
