Check your badge pages!!!! I am assuming this "Mysterious Badge" is for the cards for the summer sale. Let the hype begin. I honestly am going in without a wish list. I'm just excited to see the sales and impulse buy. What about you guys? Also what are your guesses about the event? Will the cards/badges be used?

*Edit marnaish has supplied a link that may help with your card sets. I have personally never used it but I thought it put the link up here if any of you would to take advantage of it. http://www.steamtradematcher.com/tools/fullsets

**Edit this is just a reminder since it has come up a bit. If you buy cards off the market to create a badge and have not waited the week period to be able to trade them, the mysterious card drop that you get will have the same time lock on it as well.

***Edit this is a notification to those who do not know yet and a reminder to those who do. The sale is starting on June 11th

****Edit sviat has supplied a link so you can see the cards themselves with their prices and I believe the badge as well once it is craftable. http://www.steamcardexchange.net/index.php?gamepage-appid-368020

Reckon it's worth crafting badges now or wait?
Crafting now means they will be tradable by the time sale comes.
Crafting later could be useful if there is some mini game associated with them.
Decisions.. decisions..

There's only a delay if you're using cards bought from the market recently.

Yes. You can buy all the cards for badge-crafting now and the mysterious cards will be tradable when you craft them the day event starts.

That is a tough decision

unlikely ... if there were a mini game the cards wouldn't have popped up yet
even if, those events are beyond any use/gain > pointless

I have learned not to expect holiday events based on past history from steam.
They keep doing new stuff every time.

Every time they add cards around a week before sale. Outside of first and last sale, there were always some card-event. And except for Winter 2014, you couldn't craft badges until sale started.
So there's high possibility some sort of game will happen.

Very good point about the badges craftability before the sale.

This doesn't really make a lot of sense though. I'm not saying there's going to be a mini-game or any of that stuff, but you're basing it on timing of the cards popping? Last summer they showed up 9 days before and we had that wacky team BS. This year they came in 10 since the sale starts on the 11th. One day is negligible.

The biggest negative to anything meta happening going into this one though is the fact that last Summer we had that completely wonky team thing and then Winter it was literally the most stripped down event sale I can recall. Outside of the elf cards, there was nothing else going on with it and they made a ton of changes from sales past.

I'm really interested to see if they stay with some of the changes they made for winter (i.e. only 1 community choice vote per day) or if it reverts back to the more "hectic" kind of sale. At any rate, I'm excited for the deals at least. Event sales are always interesting.

:-D what do you guise think could be of "advantage" - sell the Mystery-Cerds now for 0,20€ / ~ 0,22$ a pop or keep em ?

I hope this sale has a unique touch to it instead of being just "vote/buy/craft for sale cards". Something unique like the holiday auction and the summer adventure competition.

Or with some kind of coil)

I dont remember that one. What was the concept?

google: steam summer camp 2011
in short: for completing achivements in games or in steam you get 1 ticket. you have a list of rewards and price for them in tickets. you may exchange tickets for reward or leave them for the future. in the last day of sale every unused tiket increase your chance of wining some cool pack of games (it was about 30 or 50 of them)
about coil: complet achivements->get coil-> craft coil in to big pile of coil-> sell or open that pile-> get game/icon/etc

That was my favorite (and first) Steam Sale and I absolutely loved the whole thing. I really wish Steam would go back to doing achievement hunting for prizes!

Even if most people recognize summer camp 2011 as the best steam promo, there was a lot of controversy at the time and for good reasons.

Everyday a bunch of featured games on sale gave a "ticket" after the completion of some achievement; however each day only one or max two achievement were free (because related to a free to play game or a community action), the others no.
So in order to get all these achievement you had 48 hours to buy the games (if you didn't own them), download them (consider how was internet speed in most countries 4 years ago...), hope to have a PC that runs them, find the time to play them until you obtain the achievement.
The good part was that you could "spend" those tickets and acquire some selected DLC or in-game items.
The sad the part is that there was a lottery related to the event and the ones with most tickets had more chance to obtain prizes. It was sad because:
1) people with less money to buy games have a less chance to win the prizes (but actually this was fair, because every lottery works in this way)
2) people with money but less time to play at the time of the event have less chances to win (and this was a real own-goal by valve because we all know now that the biggest spenders in videogames are young employed people in their mid twenties or early thirties)
3) achievement are "crackable" so people who used software to cheat had more chances to win

The same schema was more or less replicated in the following coal event during winter sale 2011, but since people were more prepared to the event, there were so much more griefing and exploiting that Valve finally decided to abandon the formula for a new one.

So, looking at the past, the summer camp promo was fantastic simply because it was the first steam event during a seasonal sale, but the next ones were better and fairer.

Spent quite a few hours crafting and trading, and crafting, and trading... 135 sets total so far, 1 foil drop, about 5k gems from converting those backgrounds and emots, and sold a couple for a few bucks (nothing too fancy though). Got myself to lvl 210 and will be waiting on more crafting until sale/event actually starts (have something like 30-50 sets ready and hell knows how many incomplete with duplicates).
Whatever other people hopes for - I just hope prices would drop or at least wouldn't go high too far: I want full foil set for myself and 1 more for one of my Monsters (just level 1, can't afford higher) and 2 lvl1 regular for them too... doting mom... snickers

(smug) He-he-he... Hoping for 220 when dust settles. But all would depends on prices and also on how those badges look. Last sale I could have gotten few more levels on Holiday badge - but I didn't like the design on 250 and up (and couldn't afford going all the way to next one - don't remember now but something like 500 or even higher), so stopped on 249.

I'm new to Steam and the summer sale. How does this badge work? And how do the cards drop?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Not much is known about this sale yet, but previous sales have had three different ways of getting drops.

1.) Leveling badges will give you one random card for every craft level. This includes leveling the summer badge itself.

2.) Spending a certain amount of money during the sale will also get you a card. For example every $10 you spend drops a random card.

3.) Finally there's the daily deal vote where you choose one of three games every 24 hours or so and get a random card drop after three votes. It doesn't matter if your choice wins or loses the vote.

You can level the Summer badge indefinitely. Same goes for the foil badge.

Read this, It explains everything better than a forum post.

As for event cards, now they drop when you craft a badge during the pre-sale and sale period (in other words, cards made from this Monday to the Sunday of the next week after), and after voting on the flash sales on the Steam main page. These card drops usually require you to have a minimum Steam level, I think it is level 8.

No auction bullcrap this time, which means that there will be some kind of game involving summer cards just like the years before. I would personally still hold on crafting badges for mysterious drop, cause something else will drop from crafting once the sale and game begins.

Crafted about 130 badges and didn't get any foil, but selling the surplus mystery cards made around 30 bucks in fake Steam money so far, which is nice. Weirdly, some 10 games didn't give me a mystery card when I crafted their badges...

I dont know how it is with the cards we get every day for participating the monster game or from buying games, but if you can sell all cards from the badges you craft, you can sell the summer sale card instantly on market. Otherwise you have to wait seven days

Nope, you can't sell the cards you get from crafting badges. Either it's a bug or Valve really f*cked it up this time. See the attached screenshot.

Guess it only affects those that you got during the 'warm up' week then. Still sucks big time though. I have a few that will unlock just five days before the end of the sale. Lesson learned for next year. All hail Gaben's clever idea to cockblock market items for a week!
