Just click the banner under video and you'll start downloading an installer.

Sorta curious how they'll stop you from playing it after the weekend is over, but not enough to download the installer since it's not a game I'm interested in trying out. Apparently it's using GameSessions DRM thingy

Regardless, it's interesting to see HB starting (?) their own free weekends.

Wow. I won't be trying it, myself, but that's interesting indeed!

Next up: Humble Bundle PC platform followed by a bundle DRM-locked to their new platform.

Wouldn't really surprise me at this point. Seems like "hey guys, we have our own client now too!!1" is becoming the trend lately.

I wouldn't mind a DRM free client like CDPR are doing with Galaxy as at it could well make navigating large libraries easier. I barely even touch m Humble purchases outside of steam keys even when I'm actually interested in something as the site is juts a mess.

It says "Powered by GameSessions" which is THIS so it has some sort of DRM.
Interestingly enough it also says:

During the trial, you'll have the chance to rent or buy in-game to unlock and play on instantly. You will then be able to play the game through Steam™, without losing your trial progress.

Edit: Ok, also found this <...> DRM ensures publishers are happy to let us supply gamers with their latest and greatest games for free.

Huh, interesting. I've never heard of GameSessions before, but I might use it in the future considering their selection of trials.

I've never heard of them either. Sounds like a pretty good idea. Same as Steam's free weekends. You get to play a full game for a limited time. I don't see anything wrong with that.

The fun thing though is that some games you can finish in a weekend.
I finished Dead Island: Riptide that way. So why would you buy it after you already finished it.

Good point. If you finished entire game during this trial there is no point in buying it. I am pretty sure "GameSessions" offers different trials for different games. So shorter games probably get shorter trials.

It depends largely on the game. Dead Island is built around co-op so you may want to go back too it with friends. It's not even just as simple as SP vs MP. Visual novels, point and clicks or more linear games - especially story heavy ones you might only play once or twice. But open world games such as the Elder Scrolls and GTA franchises have massive replayability potential.

Great idea, i already like it and i hope more games are added. Would have saved many buyers the suffering with games like Arkham Knight, and will force publishers to give us games working properly.

and hopefully it'll save some poor sap from buying such a crappy game

In that case I don't think it would have. WB knew exactly what state it was in and probably wouldn't have allowed it to be used in such a way. Some people might have refunded it but some would have just waited for it to be fixed.

They might have lost some money/sales from refunds but that's still making more than they would have made if a demo/trial had been available and ensured no-one bought it to refund in the first place.

EDIT: It says its only free until Monday. Does that mean I have to pay to keep playing past Monday or it just wont be free to download on Monday?

No idea. I'm not into this genre of games. And considering it uses that gamesessions DRM thingy, I'm assuming it's just a "trial" period that lasts until Monday just like the usual free steam weekends, except for this one you have to download it separately (so no, you probably won't be able to play it after the weekend is over)

From my experience during the last free weekend for this game on Steam, it is a lot like Civ 5 (almost like Civ 5 with a space re-skin) with few little tidbit added in to make it seem different. I need to play it more XD

I'm not 100% sure how Gamesessions works, but for this game, the clock is ticking until 10 am PST on Monday. Progress is being saved to the Steam cloud, so you don't lose anything if you decide to purchase the game after the trial is over.

it's like Civ V, but less fun

It's not great. I really enjoy Civ 5, but this one is actually pretty boring. The tech tree is really complicated when you first see it and all the factions are basicly the same, apart from different bonuses. The world is also pretty messy in my opinion. All the colors look the same, with not a lot of contrast in it, which makes it really hard to see what exactly is going on.

Had to uninstall everything and start over to get it working right. I am sure that I will eventually break down and buy this game, but I might wait for a better deal. I've got plenty to keep me occupied for now.

I've been unable to play it during the full weekend (tried on Friday, yesterday and today). I get a connection lost error 3-5 minutes after launching the game and it kicks me out. My internet is perfectly stable.
