Some thoughts - (from experience and from the hard-learned wisdom of others) - it is always better to be alone than to be with the wrong person.

And anyone who doesn't want to be with you, is the wrong person for you. (That's by far not the only criteria, but it certainly is one.)

for some watching tragedy movies helps if one dislocates the feelings to the movie, in other words it makes it seem like the movie was better and more moving, other people, especially females, take the movie too seriously and it just compounds their pain.

avoid illegal drugs, cocaine for example is a painkiller that as a side effect of mania, this produces chemically the same problems of manic depression.
instead use systematic desensitization to become more tolerant to pain, take a half teaspoon of mild hot sauce and add it to a glass of water, it may not seem very hot but hours later when it hits your colon and gets absorbed into your blood you will have a awful headache. do that every day or two and it's like reverse cocaine, it sucks while it is active but most of the time you will feel better.

on relationships lower your standards
beware of girls who wish to friend you, to a girl you are friend materiel or mate materiel, if a girl has you pegged as a friend she will play along with gifts and dating so as not to hurt your feelings, then months or years later she will drop the act when you push too hard and say there never was anything between you. this is likely what happened to you, another example is the most recent episode of limitless where the fbi girl does the same thing to the swat guy.

if by your references to school you mean you are in high school you really need to find someone before you leave HS. the hardest part of a relationship is meeting someone at all or preferably in person. even the ugliest girl in your school is better than the best you will be able to meet after you have graduated. there is a small but rapidly declining window after you graduate if you happen to have some girls numbers and maintain contact but the odds are not good and usually by 21 if you have not married you are doomed to live your life alone.

the main problem with the after 21 thing is girls can get sex easier than guys, and they go after the rich/famous types, and they get std's from those types so the pool is poisoned and you'll end up trying develop a relationship every year or three only to either find out you were friended or that she has one or more std's and the relationship therefore can't progress.

And I am having some really shitty time right now too. My girlfriend also left me.. Except that We were together for almost 6 years (Actually, December the 27th would have been our 6th anniversary..) and I was just about to propose her ^^ She left me 8th of November. So I know how you feel, friend. I'd say things will get better but for now, for me at least, nothing is getting better. and this is the first Christmas in the past 5 years that I am spending without her. Meh.
