When Carl Sagan met the future Cosmos host Neil deGrasse Tyson:

edit: Saw Cosmos during the airings in Germany in the '80s. "Fascinating" as one other famous Scientist (science Officer) would have put it ;)

interesting fact: Apple's internal development code-name for one of their computers was "Carl Sagan". He objected to the use of his name (even though it was only used internally) and sent a Cease & Desist letter. Thereafter, the new code-name for the computer was "Butt-Head Astronomer"

Hello there,
I decided to make my first short train. The train is not very long and it requires lvl. 2.
I made this train about a person I consider to be one of most wisest people who ever lived. When I attended school and we learned about physics or astranomy, I had bad grades and I didn't enjoy it at all. We didn't do any experiments or anything interesting. After few years, I got some DVDs about cosmos and I decided to watch it even if I didn't like the subject.
It didn't take long - maybe ten minutes or so and I found out that it is damn interesting. The series was not only about the outer space but also about our history, animals, and so on and it all together was so interesting that I started to watch also some other documentaries about the Universe, read books about it, articles about news, and so on.
However it was not just a coincidence that I started to like it so much after I saw few (well exactly 13) episodes of a documentary. The documentary was called Cosmos: A Personal Voyage by Carl Sagan and later on, I read that I was not the only person who started to be interested about that because of this movies. Also lots of some other people like me and scientists started to think about science after they saw this legendary series. Wiki says that at least 500, millions people saw it across 60 different countries.
He was very charismatic and always smilled. One could hardly see such a possitive person like him. Except his activities about science and popularization, he also fought against the cold war (he wrote some letters to influential people and tried to convince people that nuclear weapons are very dangerous), fought against pollution, wrote wonderful books about many interesting topics, and so on.
It's quite a paradox that he is so known and honoured that you can hardly read a book about the Universe without seeing his name at least one time and many people even don't know his name. We didn't learn about him at school. His books are for me like holy books for believers and his Cosmos series was, is and will be the best documentary about Cosmos.
PS: you can also read something about him in the train. I used the basic info from Wikipedia there.
PS2: There series is very old but the things which he says there are still true and his Wife corrected some details after his death and added it to the end of some of the episodes. I highly recommend you to watch the series.
