It's been months since your mysterious benefactor last contacted you. Finally, today, the walkie-talkie springs to life once again: "I've found those thieves! I'll be sending you the coordinates, so get there ASAP!" A couple of minutes later, a letter twirls down from the sky and lands right in front of you. With the coordinates in tow, you head out to find the way back into The Temple of Steamgifts.

I translates the code to a lot of numbers, feeling pretty confident cause the displayed symbols fit very nicely... but the numbers are rather large, in the range from slightly larger then 100 to slightly larger then 1000... including even and odd numbers, no common divisor, etc :-(
I could break it down into smaller numbers, but the large ones feel better, translationwise, and even then they don't seem very useful...

Some of them look suspiciously similar to hours and minutes on a clock face.
And the images looked suspiciously similar to clock faces.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

if you converted them with same method i did, than I think we are looking at times. At least using the method I did, they can all easily be put onto a clock.

I also went under the assumption that the 3 times the smaller line appears it takes the place of the shell being 0. If you guys follow,

would only be a difference by 5min, anyway

Assuming they are clock numbers, the hour pointer and the minutes pointer dont fall direclty on the letters. Assuming they did, I still don't know which white circle with letters to use.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I can't convert all of them to times. I also noticed that the number puzzle has been uploaded quite a while ago, while the circles with letters were uploaded today. I think they may not be connected.

I dont think we are using same method to decipher then. All my 'answers' to the symbols are between 100 and 1259, easily changed to a time.

Did you use a strict base 20 building rule? So did you calculate the third place number (highest value) as 20 x 20?

Am I spoiling too much?

i did.

well this explains it then.

Yes.

Wait...aren't we supposed to calculate the third number as number x 400?
Did i misunderstand something?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Last time I checked 400 was equal to 20 x 20 :)

Yeap...my bad.

I guess you're right. I made a mistake. There is a method called "long count" which is actually only used for dates. There you don't have a strict base 20 calculation but third position is x 360.

Anyone got anything new? Maybe it has something to do with the image names for which one we should pick.

Nothing here, had to give my brain a break. Spent about 2 hours solid trying to sort it out.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

same here :P I don't think it has something to do with image names after all. What i think is correct is that the 6:30 is something like zero or space, or resets something.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Ya, I noticed the frequency of that number too, and thought space in a standard replacement cryptography, but since its the last character it cant be space. Nor can I find any easy solution due to the combined frequency of the numbers.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Any chance it could be a semaphore thing? It yields 7 numbers from 5 to 22 (so... letters?).

Edit: well, yes, probably. Because it just spelled out the answer. ;þ

hmm drop a hint without spoiling if you can :P

Permalink

The Mayan numbers give you clock faces, which you translate using semaphore codes (the numerical ones). You get several two-digit numbers separated with 630 (which is a space) and two one-digit numbers. Those translate into letters (directly, with no shifts), spelling out the answer.

Oh. Actually. There are two of those, aye. Sorry, I looked in the wrong notes.
Makes sense, since there are two single numbers sandwiched between 630s.

I'm definitely doing something wrong here, I dont get how you are all getting 630 and I'm getting 610...

I didn't get how I should use semaphore code for letters, If I have numbers with a lot of "space"
like 640 - A?
and what with 752?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Using the semaphore numerals, you translate those numbers into digits first. Then you get letters.
6:30 is a semaphore gesture for 'space' (both hands down).
There are no 640s. Check if your maths is correct.
752 is fine.

Yes, 752 translates to 9.
And as for 640 - there's another line at the end there (it's a regular line, not a zero).

The link codes?
Aren't those randomly generated?

Yeah the link codes, I don't know if they are randomly generated. I don't think they matter after all though

Permalink

I am using your comment because all the hints seem to be here, just to keep them all in 1 place.
If someone can upload an image with the 5 white circles with the letters overlayed with each other (with the same circle center), I think it would help a lot.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Heh, I thought that too. but the circles are not the same size, and some of the letters overlap on the ones that are.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah some letters could be deleted, others could be changed i don't know, but I think we need to overlay them. Circles not being the same size is good because a lot of the letters won't be overlapped by others.

Same as below, i'll use your comment for posting hints.
So...i don't exactly know what it means, but i opened all the 5 images in new tabs and it appears that they have different dimensions.
I'm not sure if i'm explaining this right...i'll do my best. So...the largest clock-like image in order of appearance is the 2nd one, followed by the 3rd one, 4th one and the 5th and 1st one(these last two being the same size while the 1st one is changing the position of the characters a bit).
It seems like some sort of an arrangement.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, that's why i Think overlaying them will be good. The largest one also has some white dots and 2 black dots which might indicate something.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

definitely think the dots hold relevance, just havent decided what it is yet.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Since there are 2 rings that are the same size it's quite a mess.
I have 2 observations though: all circles have the same 6 letters in the inner ring and there are 6 times that don't end with 30. I'm not sure if the latter is relevant.
