I thought reviewers were too kind to Fable 3 :P To me it's a 3/10, at best, possibly even a 2/10. Yes, I disliked it that much! (metacritic score is at 75%, which is good but not outstanding)
Alpha Protocol did not get the worst review scores ever, and frankly, in some ways I think it does reserve worse, yet I really like the game.

... no need to be that defensive that you repeat your "all that mattered for me" while repeatedly trying to discredit my approach that it IS problematic but FUN. As I said, three times already. Good and enjoyable are two different things, not exclusive, but neither necessarily going together. The sooner you can accept this and drop the defensive act, the more honest it will sound. It's your game, your fun, don't feel the need that you need openly exclaimed excuses to like something others doesn't.
Being that imperfect as it is was exactly what gave a B-movie / Archer-cartoon charm to the formula that I really, really like ^^ It would have been more forgettable with less silliness

I'm not sure what part of fair enough didn't get the message across. Ironically you're the one that got too defensive, relax, I got the picture, you're reading too much into things. There's no drama here, we're just talking, you're giving me too much credit by thinking I was trying to psychologically dismantle you or whatever :).

I don't know why I liked Fable 3, but maybe because I didn't play the first two?
Comment has been collapsed.
I was actually underwhelmed by the first fable (although I did not dislike it), and never had the chance to play the second one (as I did not have a console that could run it). The only thing that really made me interested in Fable 3 was the setting.
And I still remember the first thing that happened when I started the game. I was on voice com with a few friends, and one of them shouted "Fnord, no, why did you get that game?! It sucks!"

It could use a more classic linear level design like they did with the great Doom 2016, the free roaming parts were completely useless. Nothing worth exploring, minigames were stupid, few and poor subquests, the racing levels felt really rushed just like the endgame and the plot was absent. Rage shines during actual firefights since they're really well done and weapons felt just right, but everything else was subpar.
Comment has been collapsed.
For Rage, there were so many good games in 2011 that's why I didn't play it
Syndicate didn't hear much of it
Comment has been collapsed.
It was an interesting concept and settings but the game felt rushed combat was good to some extent vehicle controls were good but story looked half baked and there were no real freedom in maps and the 32 bit engine was riddled with crashes.but still I would say that is one of the games I liked very much.

I'm sure I have a better example, and if I could order my played games by rating I'd be able to find it, but here's a couple that I recall:
For Honor - people seem to HATE it, but as a single-player game I found it pretty enjoyable.
The Last Remnant - while far from a tour de force, I found it plenty enjoyable as a strategic JRPG, particularly when JRPGs on PC were rather scarce.
Telltale's Game of Thrones - people also seem to hate this one, but I really enjoyed it. It felt like I was playing through un-aired, side-story episodes of the show, which is exactly what I was expecting and hoping for - one particular part actually had me grinning. It may be one of the weaker Telltale games, and I experienced some technical issues and glitches that I did not encounter in any other Telltale game (and the main menu was a pain to navigate with a mouse), but I still thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it for fans of the show.
Comment has been collapsed.
There's a campaign. The story is nothing memorable, since it's just there to explain the premise of knights, vikings, and samurai all fighting together, but I think the writers and voice actors did the best with it that they could. The first part of the campaign is fighting as a knight, first against other knights and later against vikings. The second part is fighting as a viking, against knights and other vikings. The third part is fighting as a samurai. You fight through set levels against everything from swarms of minions to challenging opponents to boss fights, with some nice set-piece fights throughout. The writers did a good job making the transitions feel smooth, and making all three campaigns tie together with an epic finale.
The campaign is designed to familiarize you with the different factions, and the different classes for each faction, before throwing you into the multi-player, and is relatively short at about 7 hours long on normal difficulty (there are collectibles in every level, different difficulties, and ranks designed to add a reason for replay, and there's a lot of depth to the combat system). But having no interest in multi-player, I rather enjoyed it as a single-player melee combat game. There aren't too many games focused on melee combat, and I thought For Honor did a good job of it.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, I thought it absolutely nailed the feel of playing through episodes of the show, and the cameos from the show's actors felt like exciting bonuses.
Having played other Telltale games before, I knew that I was embarking on a linear journey that I could shape but couldn't completely change. But only playing through it once, I thought it did a good job of masking what was set in stone and what was fluid, and made it such that both felt as the result of my actions.
Comment has been collapsed.
I had an absolute blast with it, but it's one of the worst rated Telltale games on Steam, and people on the GameDeals subreddit continuously crap on it and go on and on about how disappointing it was, how much they hated it, and how everyone else will hate it too.
I think it's a matter of expectations. I was hoping that it would feel like playing through un-aired, side story episodes of the show, and it completely delivered on that front.
I did run into some issues where transitioning between Episodes 2 and 3 altered some of my previous choices (which was certainly annoying, and not a problem I've had with any other Telltale game), and the main menu was clearly designed with a gamepad in mind and had a needlessly confusing layout, but I still really enjoyed it overall.
Comment has been collapsed.
So, If I haven't watched the show yet its nor preferable to play the game?
Comment has been collapsed.
I would not recommend it, I think you'll miss a lot.
The game is set between seasons 3 and 5 of the show - the first episode is set right after season 3, while subsequent episodes are set during season 4 and include events from that season - and assumes familiarity with the show and the main characters of the show. Without watching it you won't know who they are, or why you should care about them, and will obviously see some spoilers for events in the show.
The only other Telltale game that I wouldn't recommend by itself is Tales from the Borderlands. It's a great game, one of the funniest games I've ever played, but I think it greatly helps to have played Borderlands 2 before playing Tales from the Borderlands (as it takes place after the game, references characters / groups from the game, and includes spoilers for plot twists within the game).

I see, Thanks
About borderlands 2 I have already finished it

My friend and I actually played Tales from the Borderlands before we played any Borderlands game. It became my favorite Telltale game regardless. It plays surprisingly well even if you haven't played Borderlands. I guess I will skip out on the Game of Thrones game though because I haven't seen the show yet :/
Comment has been collapsed.
I can see that. You'd miss out on a few things, like knowing who Hyperion is, what the Loaders are, who the Vault Hunters are and the cameos of characters from the first / second game. But the humour is what really carried the game for me, and that totally stands on its own.

Off the top of my head, Lords of the Fallen & Homefront: The Revolution.

Mafia 3
Sure its a bit repetitive if you stray from the main storyline but it has great visuals, a great soundtrack, good gun play, and the driving is top notch. A few great characters (Donovan, Burke) easily carry the story even if it's a bit cliche/predictable.

Telltale's Game of Thrones - I cared so much about that story. I loved it. Best Telltale game after The Walking Dead Season 1 and 2.
Mars: War Logs - A fun game. It isn't amazing, but it's pretty good. Hoping to win Technomancer, which is the sequel to it.
35MM - A solid walking sim, if you take out the bucket section.
F.E.A.R. 3 - People like Fear 2, which was a game that did literally nothing right, while Fear 3, which did only the combat and the visuals right gets slammed. It boggles my mind.
Both Homefront games - The first one is more janky, but the second one is a great closed quarters Far Cry 3. Interesting setting with tons of variety in maps. I recommend it.
Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days - The first one is okay, but this one is great. The story improves, the combat's way better and the game's got style. All the reviewers complained about length and the camera sway mostly. One can be turned off and the other is replaced by having the game be action packed the whole way.
Lord of the Rings: War in the North - I don't get why people hated this one. The combat's great, the visuals are fine, the story is not bad and there's great co-op.
There's way more, but I didn't want to clog up the space in the comments. :)

I don't understand Fear 3... did I set some setting wrong? Visuals were like someone pread grease on my screen, everything was super blurry and messy. It really felt more confusing and awkward than bad-bad, but it made me feel super uneasy for the whole game. Plus the score popups, omg... more options would have made it such a better game for me. (also I loved Fear 2 the most, idk. First one was okay but super boring environments, 2nd one shook it up :D )
Comment has been collapsed.
Hmm, that's odd. For me, everything was clear, if a bit dark. But it's a horror game, so I expected some darkness. Yeah, the score didn't fit at all, but it didn't bother me that much either because the combat was solid enough to distract me.
Fear 2 though.. the visuals for me were a massive downgrade from the first one and ugly even for its time. Plus the environments, for me, were the opposite. Fear 1 had logical areas and less usual settings. But Fear 2 went cheesy with its areas. Sewers/subway tunnels, hospitals, schools. It wasn't interesting for me because that's where all of the horror clichés take place. Plus, the enemies were just boring. At least in Fear 1 they sounded like they gave a damn and they were much more dynamic when they responded to you. I genuinely harbor a level of hatred for that game. :D

Finished it in February, 2017, I paid my debt to the gods of SG :D
Maybe I'll replay itwhen I'll have a better computer, because I have a feeling that it was lying to be about game quality set to high and stuffs... but it was just so damn laughable, Pointman never talking, just snarling like a neanderthal :D
Comment has been collapsed.
To be fair, Pointman is the same guy as in F.E.A.R. 1, who also didn't talk. But the problem is that he still now has been given a personality and a voice and a look. The point was that you should see yourself there and you also shouldn't figure anything out about the story through his looks. A dumb move by them, that's for sure. It was dumb how he snarled though, yeah :D
Comment has been collapsed.
I've not played Fear 3 but if it's like Duke Nukem Forever, the greasy screen effect might be from one of the graphics options - in DNF it was "Post Processing" I think. Added a load of extra graphical effects that just made the game look all blurry.

I just finished Quantum Break and i really liked it. Gameplay flows greatly, the plot is underlined very well, with lots of foreshadowing and nice details scattered everywhere, choices matter and fits within the setting. The TV series is also well done despite the relatively low budget.
It has its flaws: the engine is very taxing (with an R9 Nano i wasn't able to play at ultra settings at 60 fps, but setting to high solved the problem, even though the cutscenes still are locked at 30 fps), the boss battles are bad and there are some plotholes (necessary when you're writing a story about time travel), but that's about it. I also read that apparently it's too short for some people, but Steam says otherwise with 12 hours needed to get to the endgame. A Metacritic score of 66 is just too harsh.

Deus Ex Mankind Divided. Sure, story feels rushed and Breach mode is a waste of time and resources, but the level design and gameplay are as good as the series has ever been.

I think problem with Fable 3 was not about it being super bad, but that it easily could be so much better... and it should be better - I mean it wasn't some no-name-new-game, it was Fable after all.
Personally I'm angry at whole franchise for Fable 2 being only for consoles /o/ middle game from series (pc-potato-race here, asshole move for me).
Neither Fable nor Fable 3 is my favourite game, but both were rather pleasant to play.
As to "unloved" games I liked... I have bit different situation - games that maybe have good revievs, but nobody really cares/know about them.
It goes from bigger games that were slightly overshadowed by others, to older rpg-maker gems that never appeard on steam.

By looking at my finished games and trying to remember which ones had harsh reviews:
Batman: Arkham Origins: its normally treated like the black sheep of the tetralogy, and I must admit its gameplay was just copypasted from Arkham City and there's a multitude of tiny glitches that annoyed me, but for me it has the strongest narrative and it's the one that better represents what it feels to be the Batman for one night.
Dear Esther: people seem to hate it for popularizing the "walking sim" genre but for me it was just really pretty and relaxing.
Mighty No. 9: everyone hated this game if you ask the internet. I found it to be a flawed but competent action platformer that tried to put a new spin into the Megaman formula and ended up being enjoyable as a result of that.
Murder: I get it, it's short and has almost no replayability, but that's like saying that a short film is bad because it's not a feature length film. Myself, I think it has really well crafted pixel art and an overall good presentation with an ok-ish plot/message and minimal interactivity. Kinda pushes the definition of game but I liked it.
Remember Me: what is exactly wrong with this game? It's a perfectly good AAA linear action game with some cleverly stylized puzzles sprinkled in instead of the standard video cutscenes but critics treated it as some sort of utter failure if memory serves me right.
Saints Row: the Third: I don't quite get why there's a bunch of people that think this one is bad, I had a lot of fun.
Sonic Lost World: it might be a bit of a guilty pleasure of me but I really like it. Sure, it ain't a proper Sonic game, but it's a pretty unique platformer, you don't really see this style of gameplay paired with this particular level design. But of course it's probably never getting a more polished sequel cos Sonic Team gave up on this idea.
Sonic 4 Episode II: episode 1 was incredibly mediocre, ep 2 got thrown under the same bus without being given a proper chance (it's not a bad game). And ep 3 got cancelled cos SEGA doesn't quite get how trilogies work. Is it too abvious I'm a Sonic fan?

I think some people think that SR3 is bad because they like to call it a GTA copy. Which the second SR totally was. It's exactly the third game that they tried to find their individuality (that succeeded so well they made SR3 two more times :D ) It may be buggy, but not a bad game by any stretch of imagination (84% Metacritic,94-96% on Steam :P )
Remember Me sounds more like it, 65% Meta, 80ish on Steam... sounds like it could have used a bit more interactive gameplay
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, I din't really bother to check the metacritic scores (I almost never do), maybe I'd have filtered them better if I did. Instead I just picked from memory of seeing really harsh reviews.
I remember having had the same discussion twice in here with the same user about SR3 and how he thought it was shit but I tried to defend the game, that's probably why in my mind people kinda hated it for no good reason.

Mighty No.9 seems good to me from the videos I watched for the game its weird that so many people didn't like it
Comment has been collapsed.
The game got delayed a few times and their marketing campaing was atrocious, that probably didn't help. Also the hype was out of control since the day it was announced so my guess is that Megaman fans were expecting a perfect game and when they didn't get that they switched to the opinion that it was terrible.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well as somebody who disliked SR3 I can maybe explain :D
SR2 was pure fun, it was dumb, but still kinda serious. Yes, it was flawed (and the bugs, uh, the bugs :/), but it had this little something. There were interesting characters and enemy gangs (the Japanese yellow gang was badass!), a cool customisation system with a shitload of different clothes etc.
Coming from this, SR3 was only disappointment, and moreover it just doesn't feel like the sequel to SR2 at all. The new art direction is tasteless and rather ugly, the over-the-top-ness just feels forced and like it's trying way too hard, it's almost cringy sometimes. Characters from the 2 lost their personality and interest. The scenario makes no sense at all (sure it's meant to be stupid but there are limits). The enemy gangs? Lame, I don't even remember their names or designs, and not even their bosses. Customisation? Wow, you can chose the size of your penis but your character will always have ugly super-large shoulders ; not to mention there is so much less clothes to chose from. Even the music on the radio became terrible. I remember K12 station from SR2 so well, the jingles, the music, it's part of my memories with the game, and well I have no idea what was on the radio in SR3. As for the gameplay, I don't know. I was bored all along...
So yeah I didn't like SR3, but on the other hand I understand people who love it, and I certainly won't tell them they're wrong to do so xD. I guess it's just that most people will either enjoy SR2 or SR3. Coming from the 2, my expectations weren't met with the third, and I think this is why most people don't like it.
Anyway, all of this is purely subjective ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Comment has been collapsed.
Well that does makes sense, I just wouldn't know however, let me explain.
SR3 was not only my introduction to the series but one of the first games I truly played in that specific genre, I never played any GTA (except for the first one for a couple of hours so many years ago that I barely remember it) and the colsest thing I ever delved into and spent a considerable amount of time before SR3 was Just Cause 2, a very different approach to the sandbox genre. So I wasn't looking for a deep compeling story or characters, only a fun experience, and on that side SR3 delivers.
Maybe I'd have had a different opinion with a different background in gaming.
Comment has been collapsed.
That really makes sense too. That's the beauty of games: there is something for everyone, and the same game can feel vastly different for different people. I always find it very interesting!
I too had never played anything similar to Saints Row before playing the 2 (funnily enough, I would never have played it if it hadn't have been free somewhere at some point. This genre doesn't appeal to me at all from a distance).
I guess I loved the 2 because it was surprisingly good, I went in expecting nothing and even thinking I was going to dislike it. But I got everything I could ask for apart from performance :P - A good and funny story, interesting characters, big city that feels great to explore, nice music, extensive customisation, fun missions, great co-op experience,... I expected none of these. I ended up loving it, and therefore the Third just felt wrong and out of place as a sequel.
I don't think I would have liked the Third if I had started with it though, but I may be biased. I guess the 2 had those qualities that were able to make me like this genre that I don't feel like playing, which is just about everything that was removed from the third. But well, we'll never know x)
Comment has been collapsed.
Duke Nukem Forever was nowhere near as bad as people made it out to be (and I played it before they increased the number of weapon slots to try to appease people). Though to be fair I had no expectations of it (and no nostalgia towards the original) that other people apparently had.
I can think of some other games that might fit your question but from a few quick looks at their store pages they seem to have positive reviews leading me to believe that the people that "hated" them were a vocal minority. ^_^'

Fallout 3. I can't understand why people hated it due to the fact that they didn't think it was "Fallout" enough. I've played Fallout 1, 2, 3, and Fallout: Tactics (Turn-Based, not RPG, but still in the same universe). I enjoyed the heck out of it, and have several hundred hours logged in it. There are some amazing mods out there for it as well! Even though I have created new characters several times, I still get chills every time I leave the Vault's tunnel and see the outside world for the character's first time!
Fallout: Tactics. Did it have some bugs? Oh, yeah! But was it fun? Yes, it was! I enjoyed it quite a bit, and found it more fluid to play it with the TB/Overwatch hybrid mix than just using it fully turn-based. I found it took combat too long with just turn-based.
Doom 3. Lots of people didn't enjoy the change from the earlier Dooms, but I still enjoyed the heck out of it.:)

Oh man, the part where you leave the Vault... I have just gotten a new PC in 2010, and Fallout 3 was one of the first games I played made after 2002 or so, so to me the graphics were utterly incredible, and I still remember the amazement 8 years later.
