Hi guys!

I'm looking to buy a gaming PC to run decent games like: Saints Row 3, Battlefield 3, Skyrim, Bioshock, Arma, Arkham Origins (possibly COD Ghost and AC Black Flag).

I have found this PC on ebay but i'm not very wise when it comes to computers...

Could you plz tell me what games it could run in the list and at what setting?

Here are the specs:

Processor Intel Core 2 Duo

Processor Speed 3.00Ghz - Dual Core

Memory 4GB DDR2

Hard Drive 500GB

Optical Drive DVD RW

Graphics ATi Radeon HD 5670
1GB Sapphire

OS Windows 7 - Professional 64 Bit

USB Ports 6x Back, 2x Front

Expansion Ports ASRock N7AD-SLI

2x PCI

2x PCI-E x16 - SLi and Crossfire Enabled

2x PCI-E x1

6x SATA II

1x IDE

Thanks in advanced!

the overall pc is more a low end nowadays...but I think u can run almost all games at low settings, but if u play at a small resolution, because if you want to play on a full hd monitor will need a more powerfull videocard... better you will keep ur money for a better PC :)

That isn't a very good build... first off CoD Ghosts requires at least 6 GBS DDR3 ram, that has ddr2, a 5670 is starting to go bad, same with core2duo... save some money if that is what you can afford.

I am not an expert but better if you tell how much money you want spend for new PC. That would be easier for people who are familiar with game machines or at least PC parts.

How much are they asking for this rig? You can get an Intel i5/Radeon 6770 for really cheap and it'll perform much better.

£175 but i am selling some things... so i can spend around £250 at the moment

I would suggest to save up some extra money because £250 is a pretty low amount for a gaming pc... i can't point you on a specific vendor, but when searching for a rig you should make sure that the motherboard supports LGA 1156 socket so you could upgrade to an i7 CPU in the future. An i5 is .becoming the bare minimum right now and you're looking at newest games, so buying a Core 2 Duo CPU is a waste of money.

For the RAM, you want to play Cod Ghosts, and it requires at least 6 GB to play, no exceptions. 6 GB DDR3 will do the trick fine and you can always add more later.

For the GPU, the AMD Radeon HD6770 has decent power compared to the relatively low cost, so i'd say get that one.

Aside from case, fans, hard disks and other drives, keep an eye for the power supply, you'll need at least 500W to keep the PC running and also leaving room for future upgrades.

nah 500w is not requered he can probably go with a 350w if hes only running 1 gpu.

Having more wattage than the necessary would leave him for plenty of room for upgrades in the future and the psu will last longer.

Thanks so much, this really helps! I'm selling quite a lot so hopefully i will have enough.

You don't need to save up for an i7 for the future. It's best to go for an i5 at the moment because that is the best deal you can grab.

By the time that minimum requirements for games will be more then 4 cores (and that won't be THAT soon) the sockets will also change. So imo, go for i5 if you can, even if you can afford an i7 (performance wise in games, you won't notice that much of a difference)

Also, 500W PSU is a no go. Not for what he wants. If you grab the kind of PC that he listed above, you don't buy that with the thought in mind that some day you upgrade it based on the same platform. That one is already old, and the next upgrade SHOULD be a brand new pc on whatever platforms will be available then.

Thanks and where can i buy this?

Also is i5 one core, dual core, quad core, etc.?

Fully depends on which model you get. I5 can come in dual core, quad core and six core models.

My comp is similar in proc, ram, and OS, but what little I know of the graphics card, I think that one is lower-spec than mine (an Nvidia GTX 260). I can run Bioshock Infinite just fine on very good settings (I rarely turn anti-aliasing on past 2x because I think it's a waste of power, and I don't remember having to cut shadow or reflection fidelity at all, which are usually the other two big hits). Arma 3 runs very sluggishly on my comp. Arma 2 runs okay, but not great. SR3 runs well enough. Haven't tried the others, but Arkham City has the occasional hiccup in scenes where I'm gliding very quickly over a large amount of the city, so I wouldn't really trust that comp to do well with Origins. And again, totally different graphics card, so... there's that.

[edit] I'd +1 going for an i5 rig -- they weren't quite out yet when I built mine, but if they were, I'd have definitely gone that route. [/edit]

£500, that being close to 600 EU. You can grab a decent gaming pc with that amount of money.
You can probably grab something like an i5 + 650/660 (or something along those lines) with 4 gb ram etc. You will have to sacrifice stuff like DWD RW, a cheaper case, etc.

Just looking on ebay again and i found this... any better?

  • ASUS motherboard with HD audio output and Ethernet

  • Intel Quad Core Q6600

  • Sapphire - ATI Radeon HD 4850 - 512MB Graphics Card (1x DVI, 1x HDMI and 1x VGA Ports)

  • 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz RAM

  • 500GB Seagate HDD

  • ASUS Dual Layer DVD-RW drive

  • 500W Evo Labs power supply

  • Stylish window case as new

  • 2x System fans (2x120mm Red LED)

  • Front LED

  • Microsoft Windows XP SP2 (Activated and Authentic)

Slightly better than the first one, but it uses an outdated motherboard that would negate you the possibility of future upgrades in the future. Also, you'll need to format and install Windows 7. Better keep looking.

Why do you keep finding DDR2 computers? They are outdated like hell

I recently build a budy of mine a gaming system for ~700 € which could run Battlefield 4 on Ultra on about 36 FPS average, paying 715 would have given us around 38-42 FPS, to give you an idea of graphics/price relation of modern computers.

I honestly recommend buying the parts individually and building your own machine. You will be able to save money over all and you can have it customized the way you see fit with all the tech you want.

The 2 computers you posted are very old and outdated.
If you are on a budget just go full AMD.

My recomendation:

AMD FX 4 Series (6 Series is much better if you can afford)

4gb DDR3 (8GB DDR3 if you can afford)

HD 7770 (HD 7890 is much better if you can afford)

A 60$ motherboard with socket AM3, DDR3 and single PCI-E

A 600W power supply (just don't go for crappy brands)

It depends on where you live.. i live in Europe and if you look around a bit you can find descent computers for reasonable prices. If you live in Germany or near the border of Germany you could see at www.atelco.de but there are also others... If you want to play games reasonably well i suggest that you look at your local stores or on the net but look for the best prices and read a bit on the subject like "which memory board , graphic cards, processor etc".
In the US however i think you can get PCs a lot cheaper then here in Europe :)

OP, the fact that the mobo has 2 PCIe x16 slots doesn't mean it is SLI or crossfire ready, not all chipsets suppor that.

What motherboard is it/What chipset does it have?

edit: nvm, the ASRock N7AD-SLI is a X58 chipset, seems like X58 supports SLI/Crossfire

That PC will run Saints Row 3 and Bioshock well enough at lower settings. For Skyrim, you will be fine at 1080p and max view distance if you turn down texture size and everything else. I'm not sure about BF3, but for Arkham Origins you'll definitely want a better system. I'd put a better video card in, maybe an AMD R9 270X. Get at least 8GB of DDR3 RAM.

If you're using this system as a gaming PC while you buy up better parts one at a time, this will make a decent system. It really depends on how much this ebay system will cost you. I wouldn't pay more than 200 for the system in the original post, and that's only if you're using it for upgrade paths.
