No, you can just download it from Steam and launch it. There is an activation process but it doesnt involve origin or a retail copy. Get your facts straight.
But you are free to redeem the key on Origin so you have the game 2 times (on Steam and Origin).

Dragon Age 2 is still on my wishlist. Someone I went to school owns it on Steam, but it's no longer on the store. If you click on it through my wishlist it just brings you to the storefront
Also I own Indigo Prophecy which is no longer for sale on the store
There's a big difference between selling licenses, and allowing people who already own licenses to download the game through your service.

Indigo Prophecy isn't available anymore?! God, I bought that game at the right time then. It's amazing, too bad it's no longer available.
If somehow I run across someone that has a giftable copy (or it randomly appears again on Steam), I'll be giving it away for sure.

Agreed, I have a save game about 2 hours in to Heavy Rain, and I just can't bring myself to finish it. I don't know why, the game is super slow and just blah compared to Indigo. IP made me think and want to know what's going to happen next.... In HR I feel like I already know the ending.

If you're only 2 hours in to Heavy Rain then you've stopped before most of the problems I had with the game appear.
Both Indigo Prophecy and Heavy Rain get silly at around the midpoint of the game. The difference is Indigo Prophecy is mostly just cheesy and over the top in a matrixy kind of way which I can appreciate. Whereas Heavy Rain introduces plot holes, and has characters acting in ways that make absolutely no sense to their motivations.
Not to mention the fact that no matter how harrowing the situations get in Heavy Rain, your characters can never die until almost the very end of the game. You can actually get through to an ending by failing almost every quick time event and such. I actively tried to kill a particular character before the ending and was completely unable to do it.
Sorry for the slight rant :P

I bought Crysis 2 on STEAM last year, the game still works fine in solo and multiplayer, and I always received the updates, even after the game was removed from STEAM (The last update is 1.9).
Look on my STEAM game list
The thing that has changed is that they have to change the icon of the game, leaving only the small icon, perhaps because of copyright imposed by Origin ... this is stupid !

Some of my friends have Crysis 2 on steam, it was available at one point but I think because of EA wanted to choose whether they wanted to release dlc's on steam or not got it taken down, as Valve and Gabe make sure that all games on steam have all their dlc's released on steam. Same reason why BF3 wasn't on steam, and probably same for ME3 as well
