I've been trying to get a RX480 for the past few weeks, and everywhere I look it's been out of stock. Is there some secret society buying all of them to keep them from consumers?

If you have one, where did you obtain it? And where can I?

Thanks ;P

Edit: Went to a local store, newest GPU they had in stock was a GTX950...

They kinda undershot the demand on that card. The 470 also had like a few thousand made. For the global market.
And I thought the launch of the Kindle Paperwhite was funny with how impossible it was to get one after launch…

But there's 470's and 60's in stock everywhere ;_; #Facepalm
Lol I got a paperwhite easily a few weeks after launch ;_;

It had a 3-5 month waitlist period overseas, and even then, it was the direct orders, wholesalers didn't have it for even longer, unless they made a deal before launch.

They are still constantly making 470s which is why your seeing them everywhere, everyone wants the RX 480 or a Nvidia card and so is neglecting the previous ones (sometimes).

Eventually, when they finish with the stock ones. I would wait until the after market versions come out since those are usually the perfect ones. For example, I have heard the stock GPUs have something wrong with the fans that I'm sure will be fixed in the after market release.

There are supply issues with the latest NVidia cards since the beginning of summer, too. If they aren't out of stock what is available is priced $50-$150 more than the MSRP.

It takes some time for custom models to appear. I guess both Nvidia and ATI do not care much about producing stock variants.

They are available, got my Powercolor Devil yesterday (pre-ordered last Friday from OcUK). You have to be really quick if you're not pre-ordering though as stock just vanishes in a matter of minutes. Apparently the shipments have started coming in with next week supposedly mass shipping Sapphire cards.

you can thank digital coin miners for that, but as far as im aware they should be realtively easy to get, every online store has them on stock, even the AIB ones.

Newegg has the XFX one

I managed a 1080 GTX back in June. You can surely get a RX480.

A 1080 costs 4 times as much...

But I'm saying, if I can get a 1080 GTX, it should be much easier to get a RX480, which, by AMD's own account, shipped out like 4x as many.

Use NowinStock.net - There are RX480's on sale, all the time.

Also, 3x as much. Not 4x. :P

" it should be much easier to get a RX480" looking from the money buyer has to pay, BUT, since it's mid-range or on the MORE affordable side, then everyone and their mother are trying to get one. I mean, I'd think there are likely LESS people that buys a 1080 than a 480, so I figure it's natural than the cheaper solution is out of stock. Hope it makes sense.

ps. I'd love to get a Sapphire one, will have to wait a bit longer, so maybe customs and imports laws here in Argentina get their sh!t together and allow us to buy whatever the heck we want (and can, obviously) :P

Just make sure you don't buy the reference version

What's the problem with the reference card?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Same problem as with every reference card ever: crap cooling and sometimes it throttles a lot.

Not really...

Nvm, actually the rx 480 termal throttles all the time at max fan speed.

Are you trying to meet a certain price point? They have Sapphire, MSI, and XFX branded cards in stock on Amazon but they are all around $300 instead of the $240 that the reference cards were priced at upon release. NewEgg has XFX ones too.

Grammar:
it should be "an RX480?"
and not a RX. cause you pronounce the R as ar ;)

Buy them from amazon. A GTX 1080 was AUD $1200 in Australia. I got one from Amazon delivered with full warranty for just under AUD $1000.

I have to pay 10% GST if I buy from Newegg or Australia locally. Amazon doesent charge me the 10% GST.
I guess it varies per region.

There should be 100k more being shipped to retailers about now. They should be in stock shortly.

Find a place that has them out of stock at stock price and allows back-ordering. I think it's the best you can do.

Is there some secret society buying all of them to keep them from consumers?

Far as I've heard, cryptocurrency miners are buying them. I'd have thought that craze would die by now, but apparently not.
