Here's a thought on the point system:
How about it takes away points when you apply for giveaways but in the end it works differently:
a) If you win the giveaway, the points are automatically subtracted from your total and you gain them as outlined.
b) If you lose the giveaway, you get all or half of your points back.
That way, the losers who haven't won a single time won't get penalized as hard as those who are actually winning giveaways.

If there is a cap of 300P then what would happen if you remove an entry and get the points of that entry back? If the point refund makes you go over 300, would you just lose the other points?? or would the system be able to notify me that 'i am going to lose some points, the cap is 300P'

It can't lower the chances any more than they already were when everybody entered every giveaway.

I dont really like it :(.
Because you are restricted to enter a giveaway now , like i said earlier CG use a game checker. Otherwise make it harder with answering a question. or limit the giveaway entries but not with points :(.

Well just a new question for every new created giveaway. The anwer should be filled in a form at the game giveaway page on steamgifts. The gifter or/and steamgifts admin (CG) will get a notice when the answer is correct they have a entry. Also the gifter should have the opinion to set the amount of entries for the giveaway.

i have a slight feeling you're over complicating things :D. But if it works, then I'm fine with it.
EDIT: I just retracted from a huge bunch of giveaways to get some more points and I broke the 300 cap and reached 358. Is this supposed to happen?

I think this is a great idea. It's encourages activity and we all know activity is the backbone to the internet.

If you are giving away a game, you should get a cut of the points the people who are entering your giveaway spend. For example, if you're offering a $10 game that gets 500 entries, you get a cut of the 5,000 spent points. That gives people a greater incentive to give away games; popular games at that (to get more points).
Under this plan, every time a game contribution is made, their point total should also increase. No reason why someone who has never given away a game (like me as of now), should have the same point limit as one who has given away 10 games. Maybe raise the limit by 100 for every $10 game given away (or more).

I agree. Its quite a detailed system of multi-weighted criteria and needs to be equalized to reward each user fairly. Those that put effort into giving, thus (I believe) would be fairly justified in earning something in exchange - eg significant points in return [eg 2 or 5 times point value of game]. Also, new users may deserve more points to start with? But overall without contributing back to the system, would only ever earn a limit of say 100pts or less? (as they would effortlessly earn points 24/7. Perhaps some of the higher priced/popular {and RARE} gifted games (such as Dues Ex) would only be accessible to those 'Elite' givers with +100pts -earned from their time/generosity? And actually In addition, by creating a real sense of worth (via potential loss), you could better balance out the masses entering contests and those that deserve/are given a real chance to win. Then again, raising the stakes too high would push people away a little.. Although as the resource is typically not costing the donor anything, there would always be a supply. And there is always a demand for Free.
Food for thought anyway...
Gotta say, first time on steamgifts - what a great idea/complementary tool for steamgamesales and the steam store. Now with gifting functionality being ampted up on steam, I can really see this becoming a crucial element.

Hey Rhondus, if you head up to Manage Your Giveaways, there's a section for viewing all your entries. It would be nice to include them on profiles as well though.

Great idea, it will stop greedy little kids from entering EVERYTHING

Edit: This information is no longer correct, we have lowered the generation to five percent.
EDIT: Point System Now Live
If you check the top right, there's a number in brackets next to Logout, which represents your current points. At the moment, I sent everyone 100, and new users will start with 25. Now, how it works.
When a giveaway is created on the site, every single member gets 10% of that value in points. So, if I started a giveaway at this moment, for a $50 Steam game, everyone would now have an extra 5 points. When you enter a giveaway, you spend these points. If you enter for a game worth $20, you spend 20 points, and you'll see the number next to Logout drop by 20. If you decide to remove your entry while the giveaway is still open, those 20 points are returned. And of course, if you don't have the required number of points, you're unable to enter that giveaway.
At most, you can save up to 300 points. This way, people can't be inactive for months, and then return to thousands of points, entering everything.
Numbers are rounded up, so if someone creates a giveaway for a $1 game, 1/10 = 0.1 points, but that's rounded to 1, so it helps to contribute to everyone.
What do you guys think? Suggestions? I thought we'd try it out for a few days, and see how things are going. In short, this will allow people to choose which 10% of giveaways they would like to enter, giving them better odds for games they're interested in playing.
