about 99% of the forums is crap too, thanks to people like you. Everyday there's around 10 threads complaining about Sgifts and how there is no option to filter, every single thread has a link to the Enhancement for Sgifts that lets you filter out stuff. Stop fuckin bitching, learn to search, jesus christ.

correction, you don't read. You use a filter to read the bulk of this site for you.
As with anything, if you don't like the service, then leave. If you don't want a slim chance to win a steam game in with lots of fluff, then go ahead.
I would agree though that the value for these games is much too high, maybe add some percent of total givaways to date modifier to the point value: gifts in an average range are their price in points, rarely gifted are increased, and over gifted is decreased based on math when the giveaway is created.

Nope, you cannot do rules for public giveaways. Ever.
You can do for private and group but you have to ask for a moderator permission first!

I'm curious as to why gifting Dota 2 is allowed here, it's free as long as you do a mini-survey thing asking about how many moba games you've played.
Anyone can get it for free.

See, it may be hard to believe but -gasp- Dota 2 beta keys weren't that common in the past! People were trading games just to grab a key! At its peak of demand vs supply, it'd go for nearly 60USD!
But really, Dota 2 keys weren't too common some time ago.
Comment has been collapsed.
It was very rare in the beginning but now it's so easy to obtain that everyone who's interested in it can get it without much effort. This means i agree with you, Dota 2 should be downvalued to 1$

I dont see the problem really. Like, one thing is get someting free from somwhere(like the summerseal website) Other one is giving the extra copies you got for having a game(like dota 2 and the ship)
What would people supposed to do with those extra copies exactly? I think its way nicer to give them here than to trade them away.
Comment has been collapsed.
People will first look to try and trade the games away. After realising they're not worth shit they'll try to boost their contributor value on Steamgifts. Don't interpret these giveaways as an act of good faith, these people are looking to get something without giving anything. If they really were generous people you would see them giving away the games in the forums or gifting it to people on their friends list directly.

While yes, some people can indeed do that with the pure intention of getting contributor value, I think most people just want a easy way to find someone who wants it.
I had one extra copy, and thought about putting it on steamgifts, but I ended up gifting it to someone on the forums that made a thread saying he couldnt enter dota 2 giveaways because he had the spectator client installed.
But I wouldnt see the problem If I ended up giving it on a giveaway. Its easier than setting up a forum giveaway, everyone who enters has a equal chance of winning.

Well, 80% of my friends list already has it :P Asked 4 of them that didn't but they didn't wanted it.
May as well give it someone here that really wanted it but couldn't enter giveaways for it :)

I don't know why people have to see it as one way or the other. Just because you got a game for free doesn't mean that you're not committing the exact same action as someone who paid for it when you give it away. Why do you have a problem with people who want DOTA or The Ship getting what they want for free? Because you begrudge the person who gives it out for getting a little increase in what they can enter? That's dumb. Between people getting stuff for free and people getting contributor points for free, I will always choose people getting stuff for free.

So erm... why did you give The Ship away then? For the sheer fun of it or out of the goodness of your heart? Right now I have two gift copies of The Ship sitting in my inventory, when the current wave is over I'll put them up on here because, and this may come as a surprise, there's nothing else I can blooming do with them! Not only that but you won The Ship on here too, which means that you're complaining about a game that you clearly wanted to win once upon a time! Jesus Christ, this place makes me mad sometimes.

It's NOT a problem! Or if it is, it's a solved problem. SteamGifts add-on lets him ignore any damn game he wants.
There's nothing more irksome than people who whine about stuff that they could solve easily, in minutes.

Is this even a real issue? If its that slow, don't use the site; nobody is forcing you to.

I don't get why you think people are abusing the system. I mean, what else are people supposed to do with free giftable copies of dota 2 that they never asked for? If all your friends already have dota 2, then the best answer would be to give it away, no? The copies of the ship in fact encourage giving away the extra copies it makes. Why would you want to have spare copies of a game you already have and never give it away?

This isn't a new occurrence to steam gifts and it wont be the last time it happens. deal with it.

And ? there are always some (100-200people) who doesnt own that game, and want it

LOL, just get the SG Enhancement Add-on and block them. You will never have to see those entry's again :)

I think I will make one giveaway for Dota just to see you rage.

If there are still entries on DOTA 2 and The Ship giveaways, this means that somebody wants them. And if I can get rid of my spare copy (and yes, get WHOLE TEN contributor points for it! ]:->) and give them opportunity to play the game (which, in my humble opinion, sucks;)), why the hell not?

And pressing the Ignore button would be so hard and complicated for you. Much simpler to enter giveaways and have the chance to steal the game away from someone who actually wants it.
Comment has been collapsed.
I agree with this. If there is demand then let there be supply.
With the ship there were 200-500 entries/giveaway, but for the first time I'm seeing giveaways with noone entered. And there's a LOT of them.

Yawn. Get the firefox/chrome addon, filter out any game you want to.
[EDIT] Oh, you did...so...problem solved? Or whine more? :)

I have to agree with Shad0WeN here, it's very asinine to have almost 90% of each page to contain Dota 2 and the Ship.
Dota 2 is crap and the ship is as well. I'm not saying that all crap games shouldn't be able to be put up as a giveaway but imagine everyone got a free gift of "Secret of the Magic Crystals" and Steamgifts was flooded with them all? Sure some people would want it(I hope not), but these are games that I don't want and most of us don't want these games neither.

Dota 2 is crap and the ship is as well.
Totally a legit reason, I have a vendetta against Skyrim myself, such shit.
but imagine everyone got a free gift of "Secret of the Magic Crystals" and Steamgifts was flooded with them all?
Someday, SotMC will go on sale at 80% off, and Steam Gifts will be flooded.
I await that glorious day of reckoning.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, technically it went for cheaper than 80% in the last Build a Bundle (0.75$). But sadly, it didnt flood steamgifts :(
Comment has been collapsed.
And what a glorious, magnificent day will it be.
A legend will be made that day, and people for centuries and centuries will tell the tale of the day Steamgifts was taken by the mighty Horses, possessors of the powerful Magic Crystals!

Dota 2 is the most played game on steam.
Perfectly normal for a game that most people dont want lol. And The Ship is actually a good game.
And the day Secret of the Magic Crystals flood steamgifts, it will be a great, great and magnificently epic day.
Dont want them? Dont enter, simple. Why should people only gift games you like? lol.

As you have no doubt noticed there are now 100 entries per page. So I'm browsing the list of giveaways..... and about 80 out of 100 are Dota 2, with "The Ship" accounting for another 10 or so. Congratulations, every page is now basically a bunch of spam with no "real" giveaways. I also have way more points than I know what to do with and could probably buy everything on the Xbox Live Arcade with them. Talk about a broken system. Some changes need to be made so that people don't benefit from spamming copies of free sh*t. And yes, I'm using the add-on to filter out the ridiculous amount of garbage but that doesn't change the fact that the site is slow as molasses as a result.
I'm pretty new here but when I start making giveaways I think I'm going to exclude anyone who contributed to the Dota 2 & Ship spam as ineligible to win. If they end up being group or private giveaways as a result of this condition, then so be it. My giveaways are going to go to more deserving people. Oh and before some stupid people inevitably bitch and complain, I don't really give a crap so save your breath. I'll do whatever I want with my items.
