I'm not sure if there was a super recent patch but when I played it last week it was really poorly optimized. I couldn't play at all on my radeon hd 6850 on low settings (not the best gpu but certainly can handle low settings) because the frames would plummet to single digits during explosions.

In my opinion, no the game is not worth it even after they patched it and even if it is on sale. For me it is just another run of the mill corridor shorter with not much fear aobut the aliens that you are trying to dispatch. There are some cool things for fans of the movies because they get things fairly accurate and have lots of easter eggs but if you are that interested just watch the movies again.

Since you don't have the game on steam, I'm wondering what the basis is for your opinion. Do you have any personal gameplay time in this game to formulate this opinion or are you just regurgitating other people's opinions which they've expressed in reviews and forums? You're not alone though, Mew2 doesn't have the game either. It might help the OP balance the feedback they're receiving if they knew a bit more about your experience with the game.
Personally, I've got it and it plays fine maxxed out on my 7870. I also snatched up the seasons pass earlier so I'm not looking to stop playing it. If you've been playing shooters since Doom was released, you shouldn't have a problem with this game.

Were you aware it was also available on consoles? There is a chance they have bought or rented the game for either PS3 or 360 as opposed to PC.

I am well aware that it is available cross-platform, and there is a chance that they played it on one of those other platforms. Given the OP was considering a PC version, how relevant do you think an opinion formulated from a console version is to the discussion at hand? I also left the option open that they had played a friend's PC version, and therefore did have first-hand experience with the game on the relevant platform, but since I can't deduce that from their personal steam history, I had to leave that as a hypothetical.

I would say it is relevant, as long as the console versions were also getting patched, which they should have been.

I don't know, I would hope to get better than 30fps from a PC game. Maybe that's just me though.

When you were writing that, did you notice that you were echoing the comment made immediately before you?

Once a game is bad, it will always be bad, no matter how many patches they do (Unless it changes the game settings to where it doesn't suck, then it would be ok at best). I never played it and I don't ever plan on it. Save your money for other things like GTA 5 or Watch Dogs. These are my words to you.

If CM was the latter, it was the developer's job to playtest it at every single place they could do and try out various things to see what is bugged before releasing it to the public. We all make mistakes and we try our best to fix it, but once a damage is done, it can't normally be repaired by the community and CM is one of them. Alot of us were hyped of this game (not me because I wanted to see some reviews before deciding on getting it) and that hype is one of the things that might have ruined the game perhaps, not saying it's true, but it could have been.
And I do like it when developers try to fix the game by updating. It means they really care for the success for their game. But once a damage is done, it's hard for people to like it again. Maybe it'll grab their attention again, maybe it won't. It's usually a hit or miss at that point.

I know a lot of people like to hate on Aliens: Colonial Marines (which I can understand since the game was rushed and half-assed), but I rented it and played the game on Xbox with my brother and I found it to be pretty fun. I had pretty low expectations for it, but it turned out better than what people were making it out to be.
Yes, it turned out to be just another mindless shooter, it was way too short, and the multiplayer was at best ok, but the game overall was still fun to play. I think my rating for it would be somewhere around 6/10.
If you have a friend you can play it co-op with then I would say it would be worth the $12.

I'm curious to know too. As a big fan of Aliens, I've had it in my virtual basket a few times, only to bale at the checkout process.

Interested in trying myself. I've tried a few games that bombed only to enjoy myself.

I was being a grammar nazi here, pun intended. "There are tons of good games, why choose this one"
He was saying that there is this pool of games, good games, and that OP picked a game from that pool, implying Aliens Colonial Marines was a good game.

I like this game, and it's even better if you have the Bug Hunt DLC which is included with the Season Pass. There was like a 4GB update to improve the gameplay. In addition to that there was a toggle added for the film grain. Definitely worth getting if it drops to $12 again.
