Balloon Fight wasn't bad, but it definitely isn't quite the same experience as the ostriches.

I didn't play Joust back when it was new (considering the fact I wasn't alive at that point), but I have played it and I absolutely love it. It's such a simple game, but it has the perfect amount of difficulty to be challenging but not frustrating.

I remember it from the C64. It was cool. Wasn't there going to be an official remake soon?

Maybe I've mixed it up...

...with a movie (°.O)

"Midway Games optioned Joust's movie rights to CP Productions in 2007. Michael Cerenzie and Christine Peters of CP Productions planned to expand on a game element for the film's premise. Cerenzie described the script by Marc Gottlieb as Gladiator meets Mad Max, set 25 years in the future, and Peters commented that the action oriented film would appeal to a general audience. The movie was planned as a tent-pole movie, with a graphic novel by Steven-Elliot Altman as part of the media franchise's release. Midway Games also considered a video game adaptation of the film. Joust's expected release date was set in June 2008 and then later pushed back to 2009. The video game company, however, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2009. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment purchased most of Midway's assets, including Joust, with the intent to develop movie adaptations." (from Wikipedia)

Wasn't the C64 one a knockoff though? I remember being able to program a small game for it that used a pegasus instead of an ostrich.

as far as i know the C64 version was a remake, there was possibly a knockoff though, like with nes games theres so many that are knock off's of each other its not even funny

I know that there were remakes, but I'm pretty sure that I've played a game called "Joust" with ostriches.
EDIT: Several versions and I definately played the C64 version.

I'm sure there was an official version of Joust. The only one I ever remember playing was a version you programmed yourself, and you played as a pegasus instead. Still trying to find it, though.

Don't think that's it, but honestly, I don't really remember. Wait, I think I just found it:

I also think the code for it was included in one of the issues of Compute magazine. If it wasn't that magazine, it was one of the similar magazines out at the time.

I've played that Joust I've posted in the video above on the C64. Maybe not official, but it was called "Joust" and had ostriches.

ohhh ok well supposdly the other one was a rip off of joust, that one looks similar too, i know there was one that was a copy of joust, it was quite similar it was called something else but then was also called joust sometimes aswell that might have been it, but since i never play C64 i cant really help with what one it is XD

you never know, i presumed there all gamers on this site, but i figured knowing my luck if i said all, then my post would be flooded with non gamers xD, my luck just sucks like that

also some people that play certine games dont like to be considered "gamers" because they think your calling them a geek or something, at least theres some people over there, like i know a guy whos huge into cod and we were having an arguement about whether he was a gamer or not, even though he had EVERY cod game out there xD

You could kill them, but you had to hit them just right. I did it by accident now and then, but I never figured out what the trick was exactly.

I had a NES but never played Joust on it. Years later I got one of those controllers with a bunch games built in, and Joust was on there. Major wtf moment followed by me laughing my ass off as I realized I was running around on an ostrich.

I had this Williams Collection for SNES

Joust was one of them, good game
Defenders I and II were there too, also good
Robotron 2084, also good
Sinistar, which transcends "good" and is my favorite video-game voice

Most definitely.

Never got a board for Joust, but I've got Tron, Power Drift, Xybots and a 6-slot Neo Geo MVS (and about 60 MVS carts/JAMMA motherboards) in my garage. :)

Now if I only had time to play them. :(

Just a note for those unaware. World of Warcraft has a tribute to Joust quest/game in it nowadays too. They added it in 4.0.3. WoW Joust Questline

It actually replicates Joust almost perfectly, but in a 3D world.
