Do you watch anime?
I always wanted to like anime more than I actually do. I think the issue is subtitles. I generally tend to consume visual media while doing other things and of course that is not possible with something subtitles... and dubbing sucks
In terms of maturity though many themes are very adult. Its just the medium of story telling
Like saying I read books as child so books as an adult are childish

You know what I mean about cartoon series right? im not talking about books at all. Its just the comparison, Like I watched spongebob and the avatar. I think adults dont like to watch those kind of series in most cases. And the themes might be adult.. yes, but it doesnt ''look'' very mature to me imo

no I said that cartoons looks childish... Cartoon are drawings, anime is not looking realistic... faaaaaar from realistic
Comment has been collapsed.
What I meant was animated works that are realistic as much as the medium allows, not photorealistic, because obviously the medium doesn't allow that (at the moment at least).
Anyway, this is a cartoon: Dexter's Laboratory. Its target audience is children, its animation is simplistic and unrealistic by intention, and its themes are simple and without any depth.
This is an anime: Attack On Titan. Its target audience is not children, its animation is much more complex and realistic than the previous example, and its themes are likewise more complex and deeper.
While I would agree with you that Dexter's Laboratory looks childish, I would not say the same for Attack On Titan. Would you?

Oh please don't say cartoons and anime are not the same thing... And maybe you will say that comics and manga are different too...

Dubbing doesn't suck - a lot of animes have professional dub by best voice actors/actors and indeed is very good.

Castle of Cagliostro - the original dub made the movie good with Lupin as a suave sophisticated caring character with a bit of a mischievous streak; the newer dub changes the dialog to make him immature and sort of petty. The last dvd I got of it had the new dub and the old subs so the movie was better without sound playing the old subs from the original dub version.

There are more kinds of series...? so you think that people who dont watch anime at all have no happiness?
Comment has been collapsed.
Wow, harsh. That's the kind of shitty attitude which gives anime a bad reputation.

since you think you're opinion is the only valid, you'r obviously the ignorant scum.

You can't judge anime just because you don't like one series, or a certain element (art/story/humour/anything), you would have to watch many series for that. That would be like saying horror games are crap because you just finished a point & click adventure. There is no similarity other than both are games. In this case both are anime, but that's it. Every anime series is REALLY different, yes, some are immature, but if you watch a psychological anime I doubt you would say it's immature.
Many people just watch a popular anime that has many flaws, like Naruto for example, and if they don't like it they are like "zomg I hate anime so much its nothing but teenagers fighting". As for me, I watch anime regularly.

Well, it just looks very immature. No matter what genre, i cant stand the cartoons

I used to watch a few in the past but it's been years since I dropped them, bored to death by long episodes with little plot in them (not boobs :p).
Now I never watch them with just 1 exception: One punch man :)

Used to watch many but as i stumbled upon astonishingly great and detailed tv series with a compelling plot (for a change) it kinda drew me away from anime series ... i'd still watch the ones i deem worthy or ones i've been following since me childhood² (One Piece²; Gintama, One Punch Man, Astro Fighter Sunred + lesser known ones that are absolute gems).
Point being jp animated series aim primarily at a young generation and for specific target groups ... lots of "serious"
anime have weak plots but usually try to rely solid and good/ethic values as great video games use to. While were at it,
animated series with US/GER dub - are absolutely cringe-worthy in comparison to their "original" JP audio + subtitles.
Had seen most recently seen Making a Murder - one of the very best TV series i've ever had watched until today
which happens to be a well cut/documented real life story TV-Series ... now how do fantasy and staged tv series compare to that?
I.d.k. they don't have to ... but MaM certainly holds way more weight than some Game of Goatse ... while both being great tv series.
Almost forgot to address that "childish" aspect you mentioned ... it speaks for itself when someone generalizes a genre as
a whole and considers entertainment stuff as childish - as the main purpose of entertainment is to entertain all kinds of audience.
While looking at the games you played most "Garrys Mod" - takes a lot child-like imagination and time to have fun with that game -
while Grand Theft Auto V & most newer Zombie Games those are not only "childish" but also labeled as: mainstream-crap,
cultural peasantry and lowest-common-denonimnators-entertaninment-choice lol.

I hate anime. I seriously hate it so much! Now I'm gonna grab my popcorn and await some hate comments. :B

You steal any of my popcorn and I'm gonna bring a wet towel. -_-
To be honest, I seriously dislike anime. Most characters look the same, face reactions are always the same, most animes (but not all) have a serious lack of a proper storyline, all anime girls have big boobs and sometimes kitty ears, etc. Also, most people combine anime with hentai and hentai is something that seriously disgusts me. Of course, there are some animes that tend to differ and I can consider them having a decent amount of quality, like Pokemon. Still, I hardly watched a few episodes of Pokemon, but I still respect it as an animation series. I'm more like into the OLD Walt Disney cartoons or the adult cartoons (like Futurama).

Eh, i am not really into the "fan service" anime...
Not all of them have big boobs (I guess most do? At least now), but it's getting more and more common.
I don't hate anyone for hating it though... There are so many things I hate myself.. anime isn't part of it ;D (there are anime that I hate though)
Comment has been collapsed.
And that goes for me too - I do NOT hate anyone that likes anime. But sometimes, a friend of mine watches hentai and he really disgusts me when he talks about it. But well, he's a friend, so I must listen to him. xD Boobs aren't something bad, but if a tv series is all about boobs and cat-girls, then I don't see the point of its existence. Do you hate any famous anime?
Comment has been collapsed.
Well.. There are many that I did not feel like watching.. I put some thought into picking anime and I usually don't end up hating the ones I start (few exceptions, they aren't really popular though I guess...).. I have dropped (or stalled) few popular ones like Bleach, Naruto Shippuuden (So much dragging =.=), Sword Art Online (mentioning this brings the hate train, I did not HATE it but did not feel like watching more than half).

I've heard of 2 of them, but never heard of the last one. They all look bad to me though. :B

Hehehe, I know, it's just that everyone has a different opinion. Some things I love may be the things that other people hate. On the other hand, some things I hate may be the things that other people love. I don't wanna judge a whole country's culture and I never will, but about hentai, I hope it wouldn't exist.

let just say i really love Pokemon ,nanoha, cardraptor sakura, yugi oh,sailor moon since it was a part of my childhood and not only hentai but many thing we hope never exist.Well some time i watch h-anime too( with romance story and cute character v(=∩_∩=)フ(●´ω`●))

I enjoy anime Alot .
I cant say im watching anime all the time , nor that i Only watch anime .
I do enjoy cartoons and regular tv shows / movies .
However im really into fantasy stuff , and buy needs his fanservice every now and then .
So more often when i am boored , or look for something to watch , i would go for anime , since there is much bigger variety , and bigger choice of shows to go from :)

I prefer manga to anime. In general, the art is better (albeit no colors), the plot is denser, the speed of reading is faster. But some anime series are really good, and some humors are better said than written, so I do watch anime sometimes.

Too much female sexualization in some. Thats why when i watched Monster i was amazed, its an anime without those "anime bullshits", and even had people from another countries who looked different from one another. (The japanese guy did look japanese).
Comment has been collapsed.
all that sexual bullshit in anime series, yeck! theres even anime porn.... some people have a weird fetish :S
Comment has been collapsed.
loool, somehow I just cant understand that some people enjoy anime porn. It sounds almost impossible lol. But my little pony porn is crazier even more xD
Comment has been collapsed.
Haha...
What I meant to tell the OP was that if you cannot understand why someone likes anime then there is no way he can understand why someone would like watching hentai.
I like watching anime because I enjoy watching anime, it's that simple... Doesn't mean I would enjoy every anime though.

No need to clarify anything, I was just trying to use my rather silly experiences as a way to add a bit more levity to a thread that seems a bit needlessly intense at times. ;)
Trust me, I'm as big an anime fan as it gets- you don't have to convince me of anything on the matter. :X

Well, since i am poser and do not ready mangas, is the movie good?

I love watching anime =x
I am not sure what kind I like.. mostly serious stuff I guess..
I am unaware of my tastes whatever it may be (anime, games, movies, etc.) ^^;;
I used to watch a lot.. but about one or two years back.. my gaming and anime watching dropped severely due to poor state of mind :(

There's good anime, there's bad anime. There's a lot of strictly-formula junk and there's some real gems to be had. Same as with western cartoons/animated movies or live action material.
At least there's no "Reality TV" style anime that I'm aware of, so it can't be "worst shit ever broadcast on TV by a human being" level bad.
Comment has been collapsed.
Exactly. One can argue that s/he does or does not like the art style, but it bothers when someone just say that s/he loves anime, generally speaking. Like saying I like movies - Frozen or The Human Centipede? Or I love music! - Manowar, Parov Stelar or Lindsey Stirling?
Comment has been collapsed.
Generally, they mean it more in the same way that people say "I love action films," "I love zombie films,".
I doubt too many mean they love all examples of the genre, just that they find content from the genre/medium to often be more favorable for them than other genres/mediums.
Given that certain genres are predominantly only expressed through the medium of anime, it's likely just an emphasization of a number of those distinctions.
Really, it's like saying you love Alt-Rock.
Noone has any clue what specifically you mean, but they've got a general idea as to what you're saying.
Comment has been collapsed.
Stop following me lol, few weeks ago someone asked about my favourite music genres, and I said progressive rock as most of them was classified under that. And I got the question: What's progressive rock :D No idea at all :D
I don't really know, Fate Zero, Death Note, Yu-Yu Hakusho, Black Blood Brothers, Blue Gender, Hellsing, Bleach, Spiral, Elven Lied surely has something in common, and it would be hard to name the genre, but they are still incredibly different - not to mention animes like Howl's Moving Castle and stuff like that. It's just weird, because for me the format (anime or not) doesn't matter if the genre is good - for example mystery, or crime. It's really weird that there are such an incredible variety on anime, and people's first idea is to like anime, not even mentioning a favourite genre, or favourite one. But then it's maybe just me.

some storylines are quite good in my opinion and some anime are definately not suited for children in terms of violence.
several psychological anime have quite interesting concepts. U could give Death Note a serious go and see if u like it.

I would start with Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood :)

Meh-ish, in a positive way - not really my stuff, but seen a few titles I liked, but I'm not really a man who likes series either - they are just too long, and whenever I skip a few days of watching them I tend to completely forget about them for weeks, often months. I liked the more serious ones, and I don't really tolerate fanservice too well - I watch / play stuff for the story / the atmosphere, "plot" is quite easy to come across on the internet.

I view asking how do you feel about Anime as asking how do you feel about TV. Or Movies. Or Games. There are so many varieties. Some I like, some I hate, some I'm just indifferent towards.
As for what I go towards, depends on my mood at the time. Sometimes I want something on in the background, so I watch one with a great dub. Other times I just want to see some action (or fanservice) and put on something that caters to that. Other times I want a good story, or one I need to pay attention to to follow. So the same way I pick movies, or tv shows.

It's probably a bad idea to even go on record saying any of this, given how passionate the anime/Japanese culture community is, but you asked, so.
I can't stand it. I've tried, I really have. I've watched most of the best-rated movies, played many games through, etc. There is anime art out there that I can appreciate, but as far as movies/TV/games go there is nothing about it that I like, at all. The animation style feels lazy. The art style feels repetitive, cliche and childish. The stories feel trite and childish, even when they're about mature themes. I include "Japanese" style in this even when it's not anime per se, and the amount of Japanese culture-specific references that I don't understand are another reason for my dislike. There's obviously a wide cultural difference in tastes, but it doesn't resonate with me even a little bit.
I remember watching Speed Racer when I was a kid and thinking how stupid it was and how much I preferred Bugs Bunny, or pretty much anything else, and that sentiment never changed. Now somebody's probably going to flame me saying that Speed Racer isn't anime, but whatever - it's the same style of animation and character portrayal, and I think it sucks. :)
It's actually nice to get that off my chest...sometimes it really feels like you're the only one on the planet that doesn't love this stuff. :P

I know what you mean, and this is pretty much what I mean exacly. your not the only one who doesn't like this ^^
Comment has been collapsed.
Not particualrly interested in it and very unfamiiar with it. It's never really played a part in my life.
I watched half of Spirited Away once and that might just be the only Japanese animation I've ever seen. Was quite enjoying it from what I recall btw, but the streaming site I was watching it on split it into two parts, and I never got round to watching the rest.
Been playing Pixel Puzzles Anime lately for the jigsaws rather than the art.

Ive been wondering how many gamers watch anime, Probably alot but still.
In my opinion I kinda hate anime, looks weird, and it doesnt seem very mature since I watched cartoon
series also when I was a kid, so it does look very childish for me..
Probably many anime series have a good story line?
But idk, even if it does, I still have no interest in it.
Everyone has their own recommendations, so I respect that
So what are your thoughts about anime?
(sorry for my bad english)
