Ive been wondering how many gamers watch anime, Probably alot but still.
In my opinion I kinda hate anime, looks weird, and it doesnt seem very mature since I watched cartoon
series also when I was a kid, so it does look very childish for me..
Probably many anime series have a good story line?
But idk, even if it does, I still have no interest in it.
Everyone has their own recommendations, so I respect that

So what are your thoughts about anime?

(sorry for my bad english)

No, I have no interest in anime

I thought anime were much like cartoons, made for the kids. Thought they wouldn't be fun for adults. One day I was really bored and decided to give anime a try, since that day I've watched a bunch, and lately I'm watching them every single day. I even stopped watching movies because they're just not as fun as anime. Comedy anime for example make me laugh a lot, when it comes to movie comedies they don't make me laugh nearly as much. Action anime tend to be a lot more awesome than action movies, etc.

If you want anime fit for someone who's not into silly things, then I'd recommend the following:

Psycho-Pass (Has two seasons and a movie) - Psychological police sci-fi anime set in future. This anime is a must-watch, and you'll like it because it's mature and you'll probably feel like you're watching a TV series and not anime show. Has great character development as well.

Akame ga Kill! - Lots of fighting, lots of gore. It's about assassins killing corrupted government officials and criminals. It's one of those shows where protagonists aren't invincible and some will actually die.

Tokyo Ghoul (Has two seasons with third on the way) - Human-looking ghouls who feed on people, special agents that fight them with weapons made out of their organs. A main character who gets turned into half-ghoul and has to deal with everything that comes with that. It's dark, has awesome fighting scenes, some drama. I loved it.

Old anime was good. In some cases even masterpieces. Todays anime is junk and I can't believe grown up males like it and think it's ok that they do. (I guess there's exceptions ofc, but the main stuff people watches fits my description)

The vast majority of the western cartoons that I watched as a kid were crap. I might have watched them back then as I was young and stupid, but looking back at it, dear lord was it terrible. The kids of today have it far better (when taking care of my friends kids I've had to "endure" some of the modern cartoons, and they were a lot better than what I grew up with. Still not something I would watch on my own, but I was not upset by how bad it was, unlike my attempts to re-watch some of the shows I watched as a kid).

thats what I mean, most ppl watched cartoon when they were younger, and its kinda weird (in my opinion) that people still watch cartoons (anime). Maybe there are some which have a good mature storyline. But it looks weird when I see a grown man watching cartoons, no matter what kind of anime it is.

It's no different than someone watching South Park or Simpsons though, those are shows meant to appeal to adults. And you can tell more varied stories with animation, as you're not limited by what actors can physically do.

Excellent question! How do you feel about those US cartoons for adults? Simpsons, Futurama, Family Guy, there even was a Dilbert series for a season!
(I personally find South Park terrible)

I did but it was pretty much what Fnord stated. Outside a few shows, Western cartoons weren't great at that time (mid-90s). The main children's t.v. channel here (YTV) pretty much had one anime after the next back in those days during it's prime time slots and would have the more mature teen stuff (e.g. Dragonball Z) later on in the night. They would have some Canadian shows since it is mandated by law but ya, pretty much everyone who grew up during this time watched anime in some form.

shrugs

There's good anime and there's bad anime. Much like with other TV shows, most of it is bad.

What I don't understand are the portions of the fanbase who will watch something just because it's anime, no matter the target audience. It seems to be less of a thing now than it was back when I was in high school though.

I didn't watch my first anime until I was about 20 years old. My immediate association to the word would be things like K-on or Love Live, that kind of stereotypical slice of life genre, which I wanted absolutely nothing to do with. Pretty much everyone I was close to was heavily invested in anime in one way or another and eventually convinced me to watch Death Note, which still remains to be my favourite. I generally still stay away from 90% of anime, but I'll watch something that's highly recommended so long as it's in the theme of thriller/psychological/mystery etc, so probably on average like one series every 6 months. The only exception I've made thus far was One Punch Man purely because it was satirical on some of the main things I dislike about anime, making it even more hilarious.

I don't believe you can call "it looks wierd" all animes. There such animes like "5 centimeters per second" that almost look real. You can call most of them but there is always an exception in anime because there is so much of them. I personally like anime a lot. But I can understand it's not for everybody. I won't recommend someone without interest to watch anime. But if you ever want to try animes try anime films at first. They have more mature content. If you know what you are looking for there is always some kind of anime for that but i agree most part of anime are "school" "harem" "ecchi". Even some old anime makers are not happy with that.

Personally I love it though I don't watch as much as I used to. I enjoy dubbed more then subbed just because I don't have to worry about reading, but I find subs are usually far closer to the original then dubs are. Least they used to be, now a days dubs are better then they used to be.

Im really into deep/psychological animes that have an obscure plot and that stuff. and also gintama. I've been watching since i was a kid so its more like an habit at this point to check the new animes every season, also my friends like to watch anime too so, yeah~ the ones i cant stand are the romance ones because they're so cheesy and cliché and even though i love to read cliché i just cant stand it in anime lol. The sub part has never bothered me bc as someone who doesnt have english as their first language, i've been watching series and movies with subs since i can recall

my girlfriend introduced me to Anime, she is really into it, i never cared much for it as the only things i related to Anime were things like Dragon Ball or Sailor Moon, and indeed just like any medium there is a lot of filler, things that aren't particularly brilliant or interesting, im the kind of person that likes different stuff, im easily bored by TV/Movie/Anime thropes, things that are so "formulay" like Breaking Bad or The Walking Dead, thats were anime grabbed me, i watched completely different stuff, and when i tough i knew were something was going it completely changed etc...

if you dont like thats OK, you dont have to be part of everything, but if you want to give it a try here are some recommendations: 5cm per second, Kids on the slope, Ore Monogatari, Mawaru Penguindrum, Cowboy Bebop, Berserk, Macross Plus.

But there is still quality content being made, just gotta look for it.

Don't judge anime just because it's cartoon. It may look immature on the first, but if you give it a chance it may surprise yourself. South park is also cartoon, but it's not for children and you can find more mature animes than mature western cartoons.

South park might not be for children but it's most definitely immature, in fact all western adult cartoons that I've ever heard of are very immature

I wouldn't call it immature. That's just their style of humor, satire and parody.

Anime and western cartoons are completely diffrent for me. they have a diffrent ''environmont'' a diffrent ''culture''? Im not sure how to explain.
When I was young I watched South Park (Since i had no idea that it was actualy a rlly rude serie, english is not my native language and I wasnt able to read the subtitles when I was that young so I was only watching for the cartoons basically) I loved it, and then you had pokemon, I hated it. It was looking weird, and for me it was not like the western cartoons at all (dont get me wrong, i loved the pokemon cards and games)

I cant stand the cartoons what anime uses (I cant stand any cartons, it looks so immature), some anime series are very sexual. there's even porn out there from anime.
its just a diffrent ''culture'' I just dont want to understand,

I understand that something can repel you because of how it looks, but i think that content is more important than style. I agree that animes and western cartoons are different because of different culture, but my point was that you have a ton of western cartoons and animes that are made for little kids and/or teens and you have animes and western cartoons that have more mature themes and are aimed to adults. Maybe you should try some of studio ghibli or satoshi kon or cowboy bebop (it's mix of western and sf meets anime).

I don't feel like animes are delivered very well nowadays compared to older anime series. I used to be very into 90's and early 2000 anime (Cowboy Bebop, Evangelion, Gundam Wing)... Nowadays I hate all that cutesy-moe look that seems to be splattered in a lot of new releases. All these anime look the same to me. The only recent-ish anime that I remotely liked is Attack on Titan and the ghibli movies. I'm sure there are the odd good anime out there. I tend to prefer manga as a result as the drawings and stories are presented better than the anime adaptations (e.g. Tokyo Ghoul).

I don't really like it. I've watched 2 anime series that I think are really good, but that's as far as it goes. I have no interest in anime in general. It's just not my thing. My boyfriend's into it a bit, which I think is cool. Whatever floats your boat! Also, I have a lot of anime shit on my wishlist- it's only because I'm curious. Plus, I like stories. Even if they're stupid, they deserve a chance of redemption xD That's my view on it haha.

For me there is no diference between anime and anything else. I do not understand the difference betwen cartoon and real actors, because I do not watch them, I watch authors ideas a thoughts.

But I like anime, because is less stereotypical, like othres popular things and can surprise me. In this have anime upper hand.

Killjoys is episodic adventure, vaugely similar to Firefly. Different enough to not be assured of similar preference, though.
Expanse is basically pure drama, action is more a brief, occasional mechanism for the plot than something emphasized.

I've loved a few movies/series that happen to be anime and that's pretty much it.

However, if you write off the entire ... metagenre(? I can't think of a better term) for whatever reason... I don't know. Some pieces are simply great, no matter the medium/genre/language it has originated in. See, one thing is saying "I'm not interested in that part of the entertainment, at all" you are missing out some great stuff but aren't a potato about it, I can get behind that, but a whole another thing is hating. Why would you, other than for the sake of hating, hate anime as a whole, that I don't understand.

It's a great medium where one can write compelling stories, or have crazy over the top action without the need of spending millions, that a hollywood or live action TV adaptation would require. The whole cartoon = childish = for kids, is your perception which is fine, a perception and stigma that's mostly in the West, as most of the cartoons in the West are either for children, or potty humor ones like Family Guy, with anomalies of good western cartoons in between(e.g. Rick and Morty).

The East doesn't have that stigma about animated works and uses it to their advantage to potentially tell very compelling adult stories with beautiful art, voice acting, characters etc.(Note how I said potentially, not denying that most anime, nowadays especially, are otaku pandering ecchi crap to sell PV figures, but wade thru the piles of shit or check out some of the critically acclaimed shows of the past and there is plenty of gold to be found my friend. I have never been so compelled by anything live action, that I have been with Satoshi Kon works.
