We steamgifts folks are polite people, that's it.

To be honest, I stopped replying thanks to giveaways.
Not because I'm not grateful that someone is giving away something for free, but because the amount of 'thanks' comments makes me feel that it has no meaning anymore. (especially if some people have scripts for it, seriously? Thanks takes less then a second to type, you just have to move your hands up to your keyboard...)
On the other hand, usually when the description of the giveaway has a question in it, I will take the time to answer that.
At least that way the creator knows I bothered to read the description and it feels less empty because you actually say something else then the other 100 people commenting.

It always irks me when I hold a door open that people spam "thanks" instead of amusing me with some witty rhyming couplet, or a hysterically funny situational observation.
I'd rather they didn't say anything, or perhaps kicked me on the way past for the sake of variety.
Seriousy though, this is a boring old conversation which (it would be revealed with even a rudimentary search) has been played through countless times, and always with the same result. People will say the same thing, and present the same arguments. There is general disagreement. A few people get excited and a little trolling and goading ensues. Nobody changes their minds. A few weeks later someone who is unable to grasp the complexities or the search box rolls up and posts exactly the same shit and the whole thing repeats.
Since repetition is clearly the new black, at least in the eyes of the hard-of-thinking, it's my opinion that if you get upset about people showing some simple courtesy, and advocate saying nothing as being a better course of action, you have some worrying issues. Now if you had bucked the trend by rewarding each gifter whose generous giveaways you'd entered with some entertaining titbit or other, you'd at least have some sort of defensible moral platform from which to throw your brickbats.
People not thanking is maybe a little sad, but I understand the arguments. People who make a moral virtue of remaining silent, and lambast those who DO show a little courtesy (especially those who have contributed little or nothing to the community) are rarely anything other than ballbags.
I'm pretty sure that there is some sort of add-in that filters out all these sort of replies. Still, your failure to master any sort of text-based search system, will probably preclude you from ever finding it.

I thank you sir Dopefish for the amiable kick.
In the same friendly spirit, I'm calling you a dick :P
The world would be a rosier place if there were more rhyming couplets.
:D
