Ah yeah, that sounds very familiar ^^ It's amazing how hugging or petting your dog can brighten the mood and how bad it feels when suddenly you can't do it...
I moved to another country, out of quite big house with a garden to a small apartment in the middle of the city. Changing the environment so drastically wouldn't be good for a young (crazy) labrador, so she stayed with my parents and her dog friend. It's funny and a touch heart-breaking to hear her murdering a squeaky toy in the background during the phone call :)
