Well, unless you buy your giftable keys from Steam directly!!!

Why would they disable key generation? if this is based from info where they stated that it's not so ez to generate keys for developers, it only affects developers who abuse system and make money from it without really paying Steam....

no more excuses for winners "i don't have access to my pc"

more like certain giveaway creators will take the liberty of using it as a further reason to complain when a winner doesn't activate a win within 2 hours

Cuts both ways. Had one winner who ten minutes after it had ended was asking where the key was. Just give me a minute buddy, I have a life outside of this website. (ie: I occassionally need to go to the toilet)

Yeah forgivable if he was a noob, but he had won over 100. No "wow thanks for this!", just, "there's no key".

Yeah I had the same thing. I once send a gift after like a few hours. Next day I wake up and that person says something like. I don't know why it took you so long to send the game but thanks anyways.

It would be better if Steam allowed link like... https://store.steampowered.com/account/registerkey?key=AAAAA-BBBBB-CCCCC-DDDDD-EEEEE. Oh... I actually found right URL variable by accident... LOL Way better, easier and faster :)

AJAX + POST with two variables... product_key and session_id. Easy to automate, unfortunately using AJAX + POST from SteamGifts would cause cross origin problems. Nvm, I updated link above, I've found URL/GET variable so it's possible to send key from other website. Click, agree & GO! MUAHAHAHA

Wait... am I actually first to find this? I can't find URL on Reddit or other provided links...

Pretty good, they still need to implement a way to check if a key is activated or not though (before actually activating the key, getting a product already owned or being shown as a duplicate). GOG is so much ahead in that regard.

I'm not going to speculate as to the reason why but it seems to me that that is by design and a result of a conscious decision on their part to keep that functionality out of the public domain.

I confirm it's working. I just activated a key and it worked without any problem. You also get a confirmation email saying "Thank you for activating your product on Steam!" containing the steam account name, the contact email address, the product name and the confirmation code.

Well, it was about time for them to finally provide what's pretty much common sense nowadays.

basically you receive the receipt by email. is it pdf or text email? i save the recipts

It's a textual email not a pdf, but you can print the email page as a pdf file if you want.

thanks. i just checked myself activating some key i had.it's basically the receipt in the body of the email. i can confirm that activation can finally be done from a mobile phone.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You're welcome. In my opinion this is more reliable than the activation through the steam client because the client has the bad habit of crashing from time to time while attempting to save the receipt, meaning some of the receipts are lost. Saving the pdf from the email is less error prone and your receipt history is accessible from anywhere if you leave the confirmation message in your email account.
