Hello!

I wasn't sure where to ask this, but as per usual, it could also be that I completely overlooked a forum section. In that case, I apologize.

Anyway, question ahoy: I have a bunch of old keys laying around from when I bought too many bundles. I'd like to create giveaways for them but I'm hesitant because they're, well, old (about a year or so), and there's no way to check whether they're even valid anymore (they're not gift links). Feels like a waste to me if I just let them rot, so I thought, why not create giveaways?

What happens if I create giveaways for them and it turns out some of the keys no longer work? Do I get a penalty? Banned? :(

tl;dr If the winner is an asshole he can demand you give him the game or you get trouble (if many keys don't work).

Instead search whitelist/group with nice people and write that you are unsure. If the key does not work the winner can agree to delete the GA and it's just like nothing ever happen.
(You maybe loose a slot, not sure about this).

Or drop the keys in the forum or somewhere else and ignore the missed CV.

Yeah, I was hoping to perhaps reach lvl 4, but I think that's not in the cards here, lol, Thanks for your suggestion, although the thread you linked scared me a bit. I might go the whitelist way regardless and hope nobody is that much of an ass :/

edit: do you happen to know whether if one key from a bundle still worked, the others (same game, same bundle) will as well? Or at least have a high probability to still be valid?

You can create a discussion thread, and tell people if they agree that the keys might be used, they can be in your whitelist, so you can find a bunch of people and give those giveaways in whitelist, if the keys are used, just ask them to give you the permission to delete the giveaway.

The thread linked in the first reply scared me a bit about people being asses, lol, but yeah, I think I might go the whitelist way. Just checked my list, and some of them are THANK GOD still in giftlink form, but the majority is just plain old keys.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Depending on what groups you are in, there are many (at least for the smaller groups I use for SG) where people will all agree to that because it is the group rule to read descriptions and be nice ;->

But whitelist is the safes way I guess.

Thanks! I think I'll just go whitelist and hope for the best :) I saw the orphan key thread but I'd like to think of it as a last resort, tbh.

Well as long as a bundle did not get revoked due to credit card fraud all keys (that have not been used by you) should still work.

In some rare cases a game got pulled completly and all keys for that game are made invalid.

I had couple old keys and I just asked my Steam friend if they want any of those games first, but stated that keys are old and might not work.

I'm personally the type of person who's okay to have the GA creator delete the giveaway if the key doesn't work.
But, many aren't as acceptant about it. So, do what KlappPc said in the first comment.
Good luck with the giveaways :)

Most of them are not noteworthy at all, cheap IG games and many games that have since been given away for free (or probably bundled a thousand times in the meantime).
