When someone calls you they establish a direct connection with you, in some cases it's possible for them to get your ip address this way. If your operating system or software have any vulnerabilities, someone who knows what they are doing might be able to cause you harm. This is why you should run a good firewall and setup a secure router configuration with port blocking. Also don't answer people who try to call via steam, for no particular reason.
A lot of times these type of people try to use your ip in a social engineered hack rather then a physical hack. Because they often lack the skills. They may get information about you and use it against you. In some cases they will use this information in a steam support ticket to try to retrieve your password, by convincing the steam support customer rep they are you by providing your ip address and other information that they find about you on Google.

Wow, so much misinformation in this thread...
No, they won't be able to hack your computer based purely on accepting a phone call. As others have mentioned they can get your IP address but there's a lot more to hacking than just obtaining an IP address. All that tells them is the address of your computer. Your question is the equivalent of saying "If I tell someone my home address will they be able to rob me?"
In theory, yes they could go and rob your house but they'd have to find a way in first

It is PRECISELY for this reason that I make sure not to have a glass ceiling in any place where I may potentially or actually reside.

Even harder considering the public IP of most households is leased to the home's router, not a specific PC.

they can, but most people who say they will are actually incapable or definitely wouldn't spend their time on steam as they would be getting paid by people to help improve security systems or going for a target which wouldn't screw them over 10 times before the day is out (steam is run pretty tightly but outsources things like the forums and support as it reduces the load on their servers)... so, if someone rung you and said they would or didn't say anything at all they are just trying to make you worry over nothing... like the idiots who yell out of car windows at complete strangers...

If you are connected to the Internet, then anyone without enough patience could potentially gain access to your computer, but it would take most people days if not weeks to figure it out. The only way to stop them is to not be connected. I used to be super paranoid a few years back in my younger server hacking days. I had more than one connection through different ISPs and I would reroute those connections internally for very dumb reasons. Ultimately, someone from another group released a virus to my network, killed my files and stole my servers. There is no safety other than abstinence. The sooner you come to those terms, the happier you will be.

you could get someones ip through steam with nothing but their id with a resolver.but with your ip the most i think they could do is find a general location of where you live and maybe port scan you and try to do something with that info.

Is it possible that someone hacks your computer, steam account in some way after answering STEAM CHAT PHONE CALL??
It doesn't seem that something like that had happen. But I was worried and couldn't stop thinking about that... JUST CALL, no files, no trade, just the call.
What do u know about it? I'm sure I'm a lil paranoic with that idea...
