Alright than. ;) If I were to win a giveaway I would rather thank the contributor "personally" rather than spam his comment section for him to never see...

Same here. I always thank the gifter if I win something, but I don't see much point in spamming the giveaway page with "thanks". Now if the person specifically asks for a thanks, or any other comment type (like what is the cutest hamster you know) then I'll post it, but otherwise I won't post any comments.

I sometime thank the gifter for making the giveaway, sometimes I don't. But I always add a thank you on the giveaway thread if I win something. (In addition to thanking the gifter personally)

Yup, spamming thanks is always better than the random ninjas grabbing keys and not saying anything. :P

Like others have said, it's mostly just courtesy, people are giving something away for free so I always try and thank them in some way.

Really? Sweet! I should comment more often, though I haven't gotten [Laid] from a comment yet. That's the motto of SteamGifts though, gotta keep trying.

It serves the Purpose of thanking the giveaway creator.

i feel that thanks are nice for my giveaway. I usually hate the individuals that don't take a few seconds to write a simple thanks however pointless on my giveaways. Though to counter that spammingness, i would sometimes attach a rule that says winner will only win if they do something besides saying thanks, sadly a few people don't read description and say the pointless thanks.
But, you can easily find spammers on fake AAA games.
and that is my view on saying thanks. I like them as long as they try to be different from the general thanks and i try to do that if the creator writes something in the description.

+1. I can see how people would appreciate the courtesy of a thanks or might be indifferent ... but those who think of it as spamming? I must be getting old.

Actually, it's a ritual to call an assassin to murder the giveaway creator if they don't win the raffle.

Well, I must admit we had more than a week without the mandatory daily "why people post thnx?" thread

You live off of our worship.

I can tell you that when you have a giveaway open with 100 entries and no comments you feel like there is no appreciation for your gift.
I welcome and read all comments, and a page of 'thanks' is better than nothing at all.

I have never seen a giveaway with more than maybe a couple of hundred comments. And yeah, I always read every single comment people make on my giveaways, and I appreciate every one of them. Especially the more elaborate comments make me feel appreciated :)

I see so many of these that I've begun to wonder whether some contributors check for winner's comments or something of the sort.
