People probably thought the same during the two world wars, the crusades, the plague, that brazil/germany match...
Bad things like this have gone on throughout time. It's human nature. It's just how we are as a collective species. In an ideal world we'd elevate ourselves out of all this and be at peace. But then we'd get fed up with that and just screw it up again because of ego, envy, greed etc. The hippies tried it with their communes but despite thinking it was all going to be sunshine and roses it often turned out to be anything but idyllic. There's always going to be someone who knows they're right and everyone must bend to their will.
You also have to factor in that mass media plays a huge part in keeping everyone in a perpetual state of anxiety. Good news stories don't sell papers or get high ratings. To them it's all about the figures. The side-effects of it are rarely considered. Things are bad but things have been a lot worse. It's just that the bad stories get played out repeatedly to keep people's attention.
As for Ukraine, when things started to go off there I wrote somewhere that I hoped it wouldn't turn into civil war. I don't know the country but it didn't strike me as a place that would split violently. However, I knew that invariably that's what follows a power vacuum so while it was sad to see things play out as they did, it really wasn't surprising. It could happen anywhere.

The end as foretold by me just now.
Jokes aside violence worldwide is about as low as it ever was, it simply didn't affect you so you didn't care. People are all like that not caring if thousands are dying as long as they, or someone they know, are not directly involved. The death of one man is a tragedy, the death of millions statistic after all.

This is not true. Statistics show that we have more conflicts involving arms than ever before.

Good response. You know you are wrong and just can't accept it because you are a brainwashed pig. Google it and you will see I am speaking the truth. If you knew German I would link you an article.

I will ignore you now as you clearly are not old enough to be on the Internet.

Snorts
You probably don't know what the Cold War was but in it incidents such as what is happening Ukraine now were not only common, they were the norm. To say currently we have more violence than that period or you know World War 2(and that is just the most recent events could go further) is so utterly ridiculous I don't even know what to say.
Comment has been collapsed.
Not sure how that can be said with 100% certainty, I mean we have had world wars, even before that we have had tons of conflict, some not even recorded I am sure.
I am not saying you are wrong, but you might be, I mean you say statistics show it but where are those and are they 100% accurate and account for all human history? I can see why Chrnno thinks you are trolling, I don't think you are however and I don't find what you say dumb just not sure how thats an undeniable certainty.

Actually, statistics show worldwide conflicts and their intensity peaked in '92 and have been dropping ever since [c. Statistics on Violent Conflicts]. 'Cept Africa. Currently conflict frequency is well below the frequency of the period of the Vietnam War.
Interestingly, domestic gun violence also peaked in '92 and has had a similar falling trend. Make of that what you will. And, of course, if you do something silly like compare the number of deaths versus the population of the world year to year, then violence is way, way down.

If people could just accept other cultures and religions, perhaps we could live in peace. There should either be only one country, or multiple nations which all trade with eachother, so everyone is able to get the resources they need, no wars about controlling land. Everyone should be made as equal as possible. No class-, gender- or race discrimination! Free healthcare and education for everyone!
...
Sorry, I was just having some sort of weird dream... pretty sure that we are going to keep having wars for hundreds of years. It's impossible to just tell everyone in the world to stop fighting, even for just a day.

Ukrane gov. just want to provoke Russia to atack them. But Russia resist, so they try and try, and every time they does greater provocation than it was last time. Russia just dont want to start a war, they never started one, and they never will, i hope. It's always was European thing to starting wars, they hate Russia and they want to ruin it, they dont need strong Russia, they just need resources, and better for free, or at least like it was in 90's when Gorbachev betrayed russian people.
USA and EU hate Putin because he forced them to pay for russian resources. And people who screaming everywhere "Kill Putin, he is a new Hitler", you just don't know what he realy did for russian people, and this is not bad, the bad thing is that you just dont WANT to find out WHY USA and EU hate him so much. Its all about money and resources...
So answering the topic question "what happend with the World": Nothing! It's just a few bastards deviding territories, as allways :(

I live in Estonia, i know so many history interpretations that you can't even imagine. We have here Mart Laar, who wrote us thuth about bloody Stalin, and heroes of 20'th SS division.
I read estonian press for estonian people and for russian, they all write different things. One news site in estonian page write one thing, but when you turn to rus page - same news have complete different meaning

"I now truly feel that the only place I am safe is inside my home or neighborhood."
You're not safe anywhere.
On a more positive note, while I don't have data handy, I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that violence per capita is as low as it's ever been. People are living longer and have a fairly minuscule chance of a violent death compared with the past (granted, those odds vary from place to place, but they're still better overall). The only reason people get the impression that there's more violence is because the relatively few incidents such as this are magnified out of proportion by sensationalistic news media trying to get viewers so they can sell ad time.
Furthermore, the news media are one of the few causative agents contributing to increased violence by both generating copycat incidents in the case of spree killings, and in fostering a continuation of hostilities and prejudices in groups already at odds with one another. If you really want to reduce the incidence of violence, reform in the news media would be an excellent place to start.

I'm not condoning a single word of what he said, but in response to what you said, I'm wondering what exactly "all of them" are doing about it. There's even video footage of Israeli citizens on top of a hill watching the shelling and cheering every time a shell went off. And this was the night Israel bombed a disabled home.

It's not something that is just now happening to the world. There is primal evil inside every human and at best it lies dormant for a while. We were happy to get to live in a world without major conflicts and tragedies for a while (at least those living in the so called "Western World") but perhaps it's time we are reminded about the true nature of man and our world. You shouldn't place any faith in the so called "humanity" - we are all but a speck of dust in the universe, without any true meaning or purpose, driven by primal instincts and urges. Instead of worrying about humanity, try to be happy on a personal level, whether you reach that happiness by "making the world a better place" or just playing video games. You shouldn't worry about your safety either - media is condensing all those tragedies into one message making you worried but in fact you are safe not only in your neighborhood, not only in your country but also in 99.99% of flights and other places you may be worried about. Such incidents will not disappear from the world if some "severe action" is taken because those incidents are caused by what people truly are. So don't worry about it and just try to be happy in your life - in the face of great nothingness, whether from old age or in a shot down plane, it will be the only thing that mattered.

I'm not really updated with world news but War is nothing new. Fear is nothing new.
World leaders makes wars because of the profit! What other reason would they? What US spent in Afeganistan could easyly solve the hunger in Africa. Why not? No profit.
If I have faith in humanity? Humanity is such a weird living being. I have not faith in it as a whole, because it's huge, and all different. How can I have faith in something that it's always hitting and healing itself? The term "Faith in Humanity" is wrong. I can not explain, it's just it.
No one is safe, nowhere is a safe place.

i agree and something needs to be done to end the violence, put it continues because of money and power. unfortunately the military industrial complex, not just the US, but in other countries too that want war to make money. also certain political factions that will only retain power if there is war. people need to stop voting out of fear and vote for and support politicians that want real peace.

Though the plane was indeed shot down, it wasn't an accident, nor was it confirmed to be revolutionaries that have actually done it.

Cold War 2 already been on, with all the NSA spying and China hackers trying to get info from US computers. Brazil gathering with Russia, Cuba, Venezuela, China, India, South Africa.. Just wait.. Russia is already in negotiations with Cuba to reactivate their military base in the island. Brazil paid a huge seaport for Cuba while they could invest on our ports and a lot of stuff in the country.

While you're totally right - I guess this is the wrong platform for what you're trying to express.
<< All the school shootings, mall shootings, public genocides, and terrorism events are accumulating to a point where severe action must take place. Not "we need more money to fund this", or "we promise to help", or "this is a real tragedy and their lives will not be forgotten". Instead of regretting letting the incident happen because action wasn't taken due to the fact that it hasn't reached a "dangerous level" yet, we need to do something about it beforehand. >>
Yes, of course.

These terrorist groups that think they are above the law are the problem of this world, whether they do it for religion, ideology or boredom.
They are all over the place and they affect everyone, both civilians and non-civilians, armed or un-armed, ON PURPOSE!
Separatists groups in Russia, Shining Path in Peru, Hamas in Gaza, Al-Qaeda world-wide, Babbar Khalsa in India, Hezbollah in Lebanon and more.
Humans have a similar group of cells in their body, or as we call them, cancer.

I was born in Ukraine and moved to the USA (Minnesota) at 4 years old. I have always spoken Russian at home with my family, and with other Russian friends. I, however, speak perfect English without any trace of an accent and consider myself to be an American.
Recently, feuds have sparked up between Ukraine and Russia due to the conflict of the Crimean Peninsula, and separatist groups have been boasting to each other on FaceBook about how they shot a transport plane down with a missle.
One mistake is all it takes to change everything. That one mistake happened, as a missile stuck a KLM flight going from Amsterdam to Malaysia. That missile was shot by a separatist group and accidentally hit a passenger plane, causing the plane to crash. All 295 people on board are confirmed dead.
Why? What was the point of this? What is happening to the world. Recently, with all the events that have been occurring, I have begun to start losing all faith in humanity. I now truly feel that the only place I am safe is inside my home or neighborhood.
This event strikes me deeply because my family and I make a trip to Ukraine at the beginning of Summer every year to visit our relatives. We take a flight from Minnesota to Amsterdam, then Amsterdam to Ukraine. Much like the plane that was shot down today.

Prevent these events from occurring in the first place, instead of trying to stop it when it's already happening.
