Hey everyone!

I wanted to tell you about my upcoming game Sonucido: The Mage, a classic turn-based, grid-based Dungeon Crawler!
When I played Legend of Grimrock years ago I always wanted to make my own Dungeon Crawler. Now, many years later, I'm able to do it and very happy about the progress I make with the game.
The game will be released before Q4 this year and is part of the Steam Next Fest (a Steam event where you can try out many games, it will happen in June).

Key Features:

• Classic turn-based combat
• Throw bombs at your enemies
• Multiple endings depending on your choices
• One character that you will level up through the game
• Available for Linux and Windows

You can learn about the game here:

Thank you very much for your kind words! I still think about how to juicin' up the combat - thanks for the suggestions :D Linux support was no-brainer, it's mostly developed on Linux :) Never heard the comparison - still need to play that game (I also really love that style)

Looks like a low-effort game. The world itself doesn't look too bad, but the sprites should be replaced. If you can't draw why not buy sprites? Sure hiring someone to make custom ones would be very expensive, but buying some already made packs would be relatively cheap and would make the game look much better.

I would also suggest not having the genre of the game in the name, that's what description portion of the store page is for.
Also what's the point of adding your name to game titles? Who are you that it's so important for your name to be in the title of the games you make?

It's not for everyone, that's okay - it's a niche game after all

If me being real with him and giving him some criticism on what could and should be improved is rude, then so be it. I'm not going to fret over it. He can take the criticism and improve his game, or ignore it and keep it the way it is.

It doesn't matter how many people worked on it, if you're selling something and you want to be taken seriously then your product better show some quality. There are lots of indie games out there made by only a single person that look and play much better.

Again, like I said in my original comment if they can't do something well themselves they could just spend some money to have someone else do it for them, or buy already made assets which would be a lot cheaper. So don't go making excuses for them.

As for who I am, for this purpose I am a gamer and therefore a potential customer. I have every right to say what I dislike about the game and what should be improved to get me interested into buying it.

I love to play such games in VR. And with minimalistic graphics, it is possible to play directly on Oculus Quest or Go.
Although, I never played dungeon crawlers on PC. There are a lot of good RPG-maker-based and other third-person games.
You could try to port your game to VR if you want a wider audience.

Never thought about that! At the moment, I want to focus solely on Windows and Linux and "normal" play to ensure that this is a good experience possible (and I don't own a VR headset :'D) but thanks for the suggestion!

Oh hey... this reminds me of the old Ultima Underworld and Elder Scrolls games back in the 90's! Consider this wishlisted.

I played your demo a few days ago with some other devs, there were a number of commonly agreed points you should improve

  • A number of factors make it play more like a linear puzzle game than a dungeon crawler. The fact that you start with all your equipment and don't find any more, the levels being designed linearly to force you into a sequence of mandatory encounters, plus the fact that you can't run once a battle starts. It doesn't feel like the player has much choice in or out of battle, at most the choice is when to use the strength potion
  • The UI works rather inconsistently. Some items can be selected with the mouse but others are keyboard only
  • The controls are split into a lot of hotkeys when it feels like they'd be better as HUD elements or inventory items. Striking with a weapon makes sense as a key, but swapping a weapon or using a potion/strength potion/bomb feel like they should involve clicking a button. As it was I had to open the controls screen a lot since some of the one-off hotkeys kept escaping my memory
  • Your brickwork tiles incorrectly on the y-axis, leading to a double border and misaligned bricks. The cylinder elements also really stick out, usually in something pixel based you'd extrude an 'n-gon' where the pixels match up neatly with the polygon edges
  • Death automatically closes the game, which is something I'd extremely warn against. If a player is not satisfied by the first time they close the game, chances are they will never open it again

Thanks for the feedback!

  • It certainly feels sometimes like a puzzle game but there are areas where you have more choices with more optional stuff, especially when you hit sidequests etc.. You don't have all the equipment at the start but you don't find stuff often (aside from bombs and potions), I really dislike the amount of bullshit loot in RPGs and wanted to skip that entirely. Although the combat is simple the player has a few choices (drink a health/strength potion, attack, change weapon, throw a bomb) but I still think about some small extras to make the fights more interesting.

  • I maybe should make everything available to the mouse! I certainly think about that. That would also solve the next part.

  • I think I'm not 100% sure what you mean - can you show me a screenshot and mark what you mean with the double border? the misaligned bricks are more or less intended, didn't want to make it too clean but I'll take a look. I like the round shape but I can see your point.

  • Yeah, that's something I will def. change for the full game!

Thank you very much for spending the time! I hope your games do well, have a nice day :D

thanks! No, no perma-death - I think it fits more randomly generated games tbh but it would be a nice challenge!

New demo version will be released very soon today! Should fix the remaining UX problems the game had relating to the dialogue and the game is now much more accessible. If you already played it, maybe try it out :D

The official release date is now the 2nd of December! Even though I wanted to release it before Q4, I simply couldn't manage it without cutting a lot of corners - which I didn't want to do.

The last demo version is up, if you are interested try it out :)
