If you got information you already own it, key wasn't used, if steam said "activation successful" you should have two planetary annihilation on your account details Licenses and subscriptions list.
Happened to me once. Steam support made last used key usable again after few weeks wait.

Why not find someone on your Friends list who has it on their wishlist, and surprise them with a random act of kindness?
