Well, I got a little depressed of doing nothing this days and resume Battleblock Theater which I left incomplete some time ago. The thing is that the end of the game made me feel extreme sadness for some reason. I wouldn't say that's my saddest moment, but it made me think of it. So I open this discussion to know which is your saddest moment of a videogame.

There were many sad moments in games. Mostly angry moments, because nothing went well in the end. But still, although I've seen many sad ending, I think this category can be easily won by Valiant Hearts: The Great War / Soldats Inconnus : Mémoires de la Grande Guerre.
SPOILERS
I'll let you see the ending and some youtubers reactions to understand how many tears were shed for this game. ;)

My saddest moments where when I had to go back to normal life after being immersed in a game for countless hours. The 2 games coming to mind where I had the most this feeling:
-The longest Journey: I was so attached to April after spending a long time playing this game, young adult setting where people expect a lot from you and you just want to live your normal life, that I was limit depressed when I finally reached the end.
-Red Dead Redemption: you spent 50+ hours on your horse wandering in the plains, hunting animals, reviving spaghetti Western best moments and then at a certain moment the civilisation kicks-in (when you reach Blackwater) with those damn cars and brick houses...

When my brother erased my Pokemon Yellow savefile with 150 pokemons, missing only Dragonite and I had Dragonair just 2-3 levels shy of evolving.

My saddest moment was not too long ago, when I finished the first chapter of Life is Strange and realized I need to buy the next chapters before I can continue playing. Oh, humanity!

If you like Life is Strange I highly recommend reading Steins;Gate or watching the Anime adaptation of it. It does everything Life is Strange tries to do (in a more Japanese way granted) but infinitely better.

Hmm, I'm not a big fan of the manga/anime thingy, but I might check it out. Thanks! :)

Yeah. that's the only caveat sadly is it does have a lot of Japanese quirks which many people aren't fond of. It isn't a manga I meant read but rather a Visual Novel about (as a Kotaku writer put it greatly) "a normal man in a no-holds-barred, knock-down, drag-out battle against fate itself" http://kotaku.com/the-massive-world-of-steins-gate-explained-1753728099 It is quite a long VN at that. If I recall I think it has about as many words as the Lord of the Rings Trilogy when you count all the ending paths since there's 10. Can technically reach an ending right at the 50% mark lol.

So many people have mentioned the big spoiler in FFVII, but honestly the ending of Crisis Core hit me way harder than the original did. I think it had something to do with the brilliant mix of knowing it was coming from the start, feeling like the character had so much more story to tell, and the long, drawn out nature of the final fight (assuming you actually tried rather than just letting it happen). But man, the memory reels disappearing one by one? Fuuuuuck that was sad. :(

well it's probably been said a dozen times but: to the moon.
It's the only game where I felt like shit at the end.
A bird's story as well, total disappointment :D

Super Mario Land on Gameboy. When the credits Start showing up with the music I feel like being thrown back to the early 90s when I played through my First time :')

Also I remember I was really upset when I finished Monkey Island as I regretted thinking this was indeed the end of that game. Was highly delighted when Monkey Island 2 came up though ^^ But the Ending of Part 2 was hilarious and sad at the same Moment! I always feel sad when a funny game ends that brought me so many laughs.

I don't know if anyone remembers this game but Radiata Stories was sad for me when I had first played it. Well the ending was sad at least, I only played the elves ending though so idk about the human story.
