I've had it before, and I don't want it again. The most underwhelming service ever, makes Ubisoft+ seem good.

This is for a 1 month only, if you select the yearly pass it shows as $30 full price. Also EA is toxic af, I can't family share my origin games or dlc on steam, nor through origin, so they can eat my ass, in the kindest words possible.

Family share only works on Steam-bought game, it's not surprising that it doesn't work on rented games.

Not entirely correct, what you mean is games where there is no 3rd party drm. You can buy EA games on steam(hence my problem), and steam takes a cut, but EA themselves doesn't want them to be family shared. This is probably the reason why ea games on steam have a drm, otherwise they'd be published solely on steam. It still doesn't mean origin can't have it's own family sharing already. They say that you can "share" a game to another person by just buying them another full individual copy.

Also wasn't trying to suggest that people should be able to buy ea play and family share it, I was talking about actual purchases like nfs games, sims where the total dlc is like $1000 I think, even simple games like bejeweld, peggle, and their battlefield games, etc. Games you'd buy from their store on steam.

Technically in a sense we all rent our games, whenever steam is gonna cut the plug(not that I think they ever will) we'll probably have an option to get our installers for what works and what's not left behind and that's about it.

Now that you say, you're correct, I couldn't play Rayman Legends (uPlay) either through family sharing

We do not rent our games, every Steam store page clearly says "Buy"

You don't own them either tho. Whatever terminology you want to use, you are only buying a license to stream the game. You can't sell it, can't give it to your friends, and it can be revoked at any time without getting your money back for it for whatever reason. I'd say it's closer to a rent than a buy.

A source for you as well:
https://www.techradar.com/news/pc-game-ownership-in-the-digital-age-what-do-you-do-in-a-post-ownership-age

"According to the agreement that you agree to every single time you buy a game on Steam, "the Content and Services are licensed, not sold. Your license confers no title or ownership in the Content and Services." You're not buying the games, you're buying the license to use them. "

and of course from the actual Steam Subscribed Agreement:
https://store.steampowered.com/subscriber_agreement

(2). LICENSES ⏶

A. General Content and Services License

Steam and your Subscription(s) require the download and installation of Content and Services onto your computer. Valve hereby grants, and you accept, a non-exclusive license and right, to use the Content and Services for your personal, non-commercial use (except where commercial use is expressly allowed herein or in the applicable Subscription Terms). This license ends upon termination of (a) this Agreement or (b) a Subscription that includes the license. The Content and Services are licensed, not sold. Your license confers no title or ownership in the Content and Services. To make use of the Content and Services, you must have a Steam Account and you may be required to be running the Steam client and maintaining a connection to the Internet.

But yes, Valve has claimed in case they go down they will try and make the games drm free, and give the users some window of time to download their library before they completely shut down. Again unlikely it will ever happen, but yes, the games are licensed, hence why you get keys, and you never own the product, just a key to use the product as funny as that sounds.

There's some benefits to this, and of course the negatives that could come with it. Like with UPLAY right now who's shutting down many of the servers of their older games, shutting down not only multiplayer but also dlc access to some people because the servers can't verify you ever had it. Thankfully there's a work around for the dlc problem, for multiplayer only for some.

If you already used the gamepass offer last month (3 months for 1 usd) then this deal is useless lol

Well their point is to make people try the sub, not for people to keep getting it for free...

Great deal. Less than a buck and you get to play some great games, especially the indie ones.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll gladly play Lost in Random and some Need For Speed games for a dollar. Gonna do it on Playstation though and get some shiny platinum's.

Nah, I'm not gonna give even £0.80 for their stupid subscription. I prefer to buy the game and keep it forever, not to be "pressed" by a subscription to complete the game as fast as I can.

So you only buy physical copies of games?

No, I'm buying only digital copies.

Ah I see. I was only asking because Steam is also a subscription based service, technically. There's no guarantee our games will be ours to keep forever.

You can get the free month when you would play the game, they have quite a few sub-10 hour long games, playing one is already cheaper than buying. Unravel 1-2, Titanfall 2 campaign, It Takes Two, A Way Out, Sea of Solitude, etc
Also, "demo" every single game of the service to know what you'd like to buy later. This may be the real source of value if you plan on buying (and replaying) multiple games from the variety.

Though - unlikely that you feel different about Gamepass, but their PC selection full-on includes EA Play as well, and they have similarly cheap promotional month deals. Even better way to "demo" what interests you.
"Xbox Game Pass for PC members have EA Play for PC on Windows 10 via the EA Desktop app."

Strange. I've subscribed before and I'm still eligible for that 80% offer.
Anyway: I'd buy that for a dollar! especially if you've never bought any EA games before.
Idle all the cards and you'd gain a tiny profit in steam bucks.

You get cards when using EA Play? I don't think I did, when I tried the last 1$ trial on Steam.

Only when it was released on Steam was it possible to get cards. Then they patched it

Ugh they always offer those deals when I'm a couple of weeks away from going on vacation so I can never really use the whole month.
Another pass I guess

Good deal, they don't have many games so you should be able to beat most games you find interesting in that month.

0.80€ sounds so good & cheap, there are some games I would love to play too. Like Mass Effect: Legendary Edition. But I doubt I will finish it within 1 month. And I did read on reddit that stats for steam (playtime, achievements) are not longer shown in your profile after the subscription ends. So you have to either continue the sub (for full price) or buy the full game to show stats for the EA games you played during the sub. Correct me if I'm wrong. :)
