I clearly don't give a flying fuck about the whole thing. Heh.

Basically, this Zoe lady made a game on steam called depression quest. She seems to have risen in popularity a while back when she claimed that some internet group called "Wizardchan" harassed her. The attention seems to have helped her get her game greenlit. Now accusations are coming out that she slept with a bunch of people in the gaming industry to get favorable reviews for her game and that the "harassment " she claimed to have received may have been fake. To top it all off, this topic made the front page of reddit as well as 4Chan and other sites and was having ALL of its comments deleted.

no one should defent themselfs over such accusations, zoe is great.

Basically, people bitching about a free and worthless game. It's completely over IP rights and claims of feminist agendas. So it has nothing to do with anyone unless you'd want to start up pointless drama.

The big issue doesn't seem to be the free game. The outrage seems more about the fact that she seemingly slept with certain people in the gaming industry to get favorable reviews AS WELL AS having negative words against her censored. I've always had a pretty good clue that the industry was pretty corrupt on the journalism side and this seems to have brought it to light today :-(

Whether she did or didn't sleep with people for positive reviews, defamatory comments that hurt a person's image are subject to slander laws. It's not a matter of free speech. Free speech is "you're fat". People don't know the difference between that and slander. If she disagrees that it happened then people don't have the right to make the claim on publications. If it happened and she disagrees, then I think there's some "evidence clause" that protects true information staying out.
It's complicated. :P

Maybe in the UK. In America, you can only be guilty of slander if you prove actual malice and that the thing you said was false. If either condition is not met, you cannot win a libel or slander case. Its especially hard for famous people to win, because they "live in the public eye."
But its a-whole-nother matter when people start deleting comments. That pretty much condemns you to be seen as a liar, as someone who has something to cover up.

There's nothing more intently malicious than anything an ex-bf/gf has to say about you. :P

I see... I get the feeling that there's definitely some truth and some lies from both sides right now. Thanks for clarifying the differences between free speech and slander. This whole thing is complicated :-(

If it's true, then a lot of the sex is likely to have happened at different conventions.

She did some bad shit and got caught, not much else to say about it. I didn't care about her stuff to begin with.

This is the first I heard of it, so to the power of google... ok. Possibility 1) she acted somewhat unethically to get her game some attention 2) or her ex-boyfriend has done a really good job at being a douche. I don't feel like jumping to a conclusion and even if she is in the wrong I don't really care. It's a shame the internet/media doesn't run on an innocent till proven guilty basis.

I'm surprised her appearance even wields that much power for her to gain some significant amount benefit from sexual favors. Those "gamer journalists" must really be hard up.

I was just going to post this. Sure, if she felt she needed to sleep with people, then there is a very serious problem, but it's ultimately her choice. This would hardly be an issue if it was a man sleeping with women for positive reviews. She doesn't sound like a person whose company I would enjoy, but she's entitled to sleep with whoever.the.fuck.she.wants. I'm no way condoning any situation where a women feels like sleeping with someone is the only route to success.

I don't see why anyone who isn't directly involved should care about what she does with her personal life. I think it's pretty bad form for her ex to be spreading their personal drama around the internet like that in the first place.
Anyway, I really liked Depression Quest, and I'm looking forward to seeing what other games she makes in the future.

Read Dillon's post just above yours to see why anyone should care.

Basically people are accusing the creator of Depression Quest of acting unethically, however everything being said against her is currently being censored and removed from the internet including sites like YouTube and reddit.
