What is it with everyone saying Thank You on giveaways? When I first joined, I thought they were just being nice. I also thought that maybe it increases your chances of winning. Now, I just see it as spam. What is everyone else's thoughts?

What the heck is wrong with people trying to be nice to each other anyways?

I agree that people using comment bots are scumbags, but there are still a handful of users who are simply being polite. Personally, I usually comment something interesting for the giveaway creator to enjoy reading.

I say usually have a standard thank you message to a giveaway, but if there are other instructions or someone asks specifically for something else I'll do that.

Mama didn't raise me to be ungrateful, but she also raised me to have reading comprehension.

I used to hand type a "thank you" message for every giveaway I entered. That kinda stopped when I could only use one hand for three months so I mostly just write a "Thank you" if I win the giveaway.

Unless it's an invite only giveaway, then I say thanks when entering.
Also if I find out someone whitelisted me, I post a comment on the giveaway to thank them for that

To be honest, I never understood this. I mean it seems to be just spam. When you look at the number of people who entered the giveaway, you can probably aproximate that this is the number of people that are thankful - I mean you are giving them all a chance to win a free game. I would assume that comment section is there so someone can ask the creator something or say: "Hey, I love this series I have fond memories of it" etc. You know. A comment. "Thank you" Is hardly a comment, and is simply clogging the place, so people will have harder time noticing when someone has somthing meaningful to say.

That's how I see it anyway.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You're right, entering the giveaway is basically saying thanks anyway.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It says on the FAQs that "thank you's" are appreciated or something along the lines, though, so people do it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes, I believe the exact phrasing is:

We encourage users to write comments thanking the giveaway creator for their generosity, although this is not required.

I think my initial point is still valid though. I just think that writing simply "thank you" quickly stops expressing something and just becomes white noise after few people in a row post that.

I mean, you can even find it disrespectful when you think about it - simple "thanks" written 30 times in a row is just bland and seems like the writer didn't even care enough to come up with something more meaningful. Or even worse, sometimes it may mean he didn't read the description of the giveaway, as people sometimes explicitly state thay don't want the "thanks" comments.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I usually say I don't want "Thanks" in my comments.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

First of all, NO. Everyone has the same chances of winning whether you comment or not. Second.. I personally like it when some people thank me on my giveaways. Sometimes people say thank you with a cool gif, or somehow show their gratitude. I don't see it as spam, and I go through every comment I get on my giveaways. I understand people don't like spam, so if that's the case put it under the description and a lot less people will comment. Everyone has their own opinion, I don't see what the big deal is.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't mind it, but in my opinion, I like to see a variety of comments that DON'T say "Thank You". Something more meaningful, like about the game.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If I comment on a giveaway, I'll usually say something like "thank you very much" or "I appreciate this" or to friends I'll just say "Thanks, -friend-" or call them love or something, just because I know a lot of people read the comments. I just ike showing that I appreciate it, but I don't really go out of my way to say much more. Do you?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I usually say something about the game, or why I want it. Sometimes I just enter and don't comment. When I do comment I'll say something nice, but honestly, I think you're showing you're thankful about it when you enter.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, usually people are thankful and just entering does show it. I've just seen so many threads lately about comments and I understand everyone wants to share their own opinion, but it's such a senseless little topic xD

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Why do you have to say "Thanks" during the giveaway? You're showing your gratitude by entering.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Not really, how does entering a giveaway show thanks?

Just like telling a playing a video game isn't saying thanks to a dev, but leaving a review/recommending it to friends and stuff is much nicer to them.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes but, "Thanks" isn't a review or a recommend.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Dude, you seriously don't even understand similes? Why would someone write a review of someone's giveaway?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

To me, entering without commenting isn't showing my gratitude. It feels more like taking for granted the fact that someone is giving a game away and that it's not worthy in itself to be thankful.

I'm always grateful for the opportunity that's being offered to me. No one is forced to to give anything and the fact that someone willingly chose to give a game to complete strangers over the Internet deserve some recognition in my book. I always comment a thanks or thank you at the very least, and try to be more creative when I'm less in a hurry or feel inspired.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Try not to waste too much time on it wondering, there are giveaway's to enter.
.

  • According to the law of averages you have an average chance of winning everything all at the same time.
  • According to the law of attraction, the more you give the more you give again and keep on giving.
  • And according to Norse belief's you must sacrifice something meaningful to receive what you wish.

Hope this helps with your wondering maybe's and severely cuts down the amount of time you most certainly will waste wondering about maybe's.

If saying thanks on giveaways increased your chances, it still wouldn't matter because look how many people say thx on giveaways, so no, it doesn't increase chances. When I say it I try to say it in a different way than everyone else so I don't just sound like one of the masses.
