Does Saying Thank You Increase Your Chances?
I don't consider gratitude as spam, unless it is obvious spamming.
What the heck is wrong with people trying to be nice to each other anyways?
Comment has been collapsed.
There;s nothing wrong with it, the people who do it are obviously faking.

Some* of them.
I agree that people using comment bots are scumbags, but there are still a handful of users who are simply being polite. Personally, I usually comment something interesting for the giveaway creator to enjoy reading.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, but don't you find it boring reading a bunch of the same things?
Comment has been collapsed.
You don't have to read, just click mark as read and feel good about yourself
Comment has been collapsed.
I do click "Mark As Read" but I respond to the ones that actually say something other than "Thanks".

I say usually have a standard thank you message to a giveaway, but if there are other instructions or someone asks specifically for something else I'll do that.
Mama didn't raise me to be ungrateful, but she also raised me to have reading comprehension.

I used to hand type a "thank you" message for every giveaway I entered. That kinda stopped when I could only use one hand for three months so I mostly just write a "Thank you" if I win the giveaway.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, but wouldn't you thank the person if you won?
Comment has been collapsed.
You can do that, too. What's the problem with that?
Comment has been collapsed.
That's what I do, if I win I post a comment to thank the person.
Unless it's an invite only giveaway, then I say thanks when entering.
Also if I find out someone whitelisted me, I post a comment on the giveaway to thank them for that
Comment has been collapsed.
To be honest, I never understood this. I mean it seems to be just spam. When you look at the number of people who entered the giveaway, you can probably aproximate that this is the number of people that are thankful - I mean you are giving them all a chance to win a free game. I would assume that comment section is there so someone can ask the creator something or say: "Hey, I love this series I have fond memories of it" etc. You know. A comment. "Thank you" Is hardly a comment, and is simply clogging the place, so people will have harder time noticing when someone has somthing meaningful to say.
That's how I see it anyway.
Comment has been collapsed.
You're right, entering the giveaway is basically saying thanks anyway.
Comment has been collapsed.
It says on the FAQs that "thank you's" are appreciated or something along the lines, though, so people do it.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, I believe the exact phrasing is:
We encourage users to write comments thanking the giveaway creator for their generosity, although this is not required.
I think my initial point is still valid though. I just think that writing simply "thank you" quickly stops expressing something and just becomes white noise after few people in a row post that.
I mean, you can even find it disrespectful when you think about it - simple "thanks" written 30 times in a row is just bland and seems like the writer didn't even care enough to come up with something more meaningful. Or even worse, sometimes it may mean he didn't read the description of the giveaway, as people sometimes explicitly state thay don't want the "thanks" comments.
Comment has been collapsed.
I usually say I don't want "Thanks" in my comments.
Comment has been collapsed.
First of all, NO. Everyone has the same chances of winning whether you comment or not. Second.. I personally like it when some people thank me on my giveaways. Sometimes people say thank you with a cool gif, or somehow show their gratitude. I don't see it as spam, and I go through every comment I get on my giveaways. I understand people don't like spam, so if that's the case put it under the description and a lot less people will comment. Everyone has their own opinion, I don't see what the big deal is.
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't mind it, but in my opinion, I like to see a variety of comments that DON'T say "Thank You". Something more meaningful, like about the game.
Comment has been collapsed.
If I comment on a giveaway, I'll usually say something like "thank you very much" or "I appreciate this" or to friends I'll just say "Thanks, -friend-" or call them love or something, just because I know a lot of people read the comments. I just ike showing that I appreciate it, but I don't really go out of my way to say much more. Do you?
Comment has been collapsed.
I usually say something about the game, or why I want it. Sometimes I just enter and don't comment. When I do comment I'll say something nice, but honestly, I think you're showing you're thankful about it when you enter.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, usually people are thankful and just entering does show it. I've just seen so many threads lately about comments and I understand everyone wants to share their own opinion, but it's such a senseless little topic xD
Comment has been collapsed.
same,i alway read the descption of each GA i enter so i can do as what OP ask, someytiime comment if the game is my favourtite or set it at high LV , .. and group or private ga comment something different, it is mandatory. unless the creator say otherwise
Comment has been collapsed.
say nothing in the comment or after receiving the gift?
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, but when someone wins a giveaway, they usually say thank you afterwards.
Comment has been collapsed.
You'd be surprised how ungrateful some people can be. But for the most part, people usually take a few seconds to at the very least write a simple "Thank you" after a win.
Comment has been collapsed.
i used to do it with my own twist, then people hated it so i stopped.
if there is something meaningful in the discreption maybe it wont be filled with "useless" comments
Comment has been collapsed.
Every now and then, I put in my description of a giveaway, that they have to say something other the "Thank You".
Comment has been collapsed.
Maybe it's spam for you, but it makes more sense than writing useless threads like this one.
I am thankful for people who give things away and the least I can do to display my gratitude is writing a comment, meaningful ones not just copy-pasta ones.
Comment has been collapsed.
Why do you have to say "Thanks" during the giveaway? You're showing your gratitude by entering.
Comment has been collapsed.
Not really, how does entering a giveaway show thanks?
Just like telling a playing a video game isn't saying thanks to a dev, but leaving a review/recommending it to friends and stuff is much nicer to them.
Comment has been collapsed.
To me, entering without commenting isn't showing my gratitude. It feels more like taking for granted the fact that someone is giving a game away and that it's not worthy in itself to be thankful.
I'm always grateful for the opportunity that's being offered to me. No one is forced to to give anything and the fact that someone willingly chose to give a game to complete strangers over the Internet deserve some recognition in my book. I always comment a thanks or thank you at the very least, and try to be more creative when I'm less in a hurry or feel inspired.

Whenever is say something like
I seem to win every thanking time
Comment has been collapsed.
If someone commented that on mine. I swear I'd be happier.

Unless I like you, and if I like you I don't mind what you say.
As long as its nothing too sexy, I'm easily aroused 8==D

returns to thread, with nothing changed except on a few more blacklists
:,(

Damn racist's, I get white-listed for my gratitude, while you get black-listed for yours.
Maybe we should breed.
In the end we all be beige.

No. And stop trying to pick me up with your charms and smooth pick-up lines.

You're just saying no, because you're shy.
Maybe even a virgin.

Don't worry, thanks to support being so lazy, I had no giveaway running (waiting for the game to be added) so you're still on my whitelist.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, Support are a bunch of whiners. They just want you to THINK that's what their workload is. This is what they're really doing.
Comment has been collapsed.
I KNEW IT!
Now, if you will excuse me, I have an errand to run.
Fills out the support application form

Try not to waste too much time on it wondering, there are giveaway's to enter.
.
Hope this helps with your wondering maybe's and severely cuts down the amount of time you most certainly will waste wondering about maybe's.
Comment has been collapsed.
That's the best idea I've heard. This needs to be on Steamgifts.

No, it doesn't matter how many people enter. Saying "Thanks!" always boosts your probability of winning
Comment has been collapsed.
Explain that Mr Maths teacher person of percentages
Comment has been collapsed.
But this doesn't mean I'm not grateful every time I win every giveaway I enter.
Comment has been collapsed.
I never just say "Thanks" in the comments, but think of a creative & special comment.
And sometimes, it does indeed increase your chances of winning (something).

If saying thanks on giveaways increased your chances, it still wouldn't matter because look how many people say thx on giveaways, so no, it doesn't increase chances. When I say it I try to say it in a different way than everyone else so I don't just sound like one of the masses.
Comment has been collapsed.
You sir have lost all aspect of rational thinking.
Please walk over to that corner over there, yes that corner right there will do.
When you get there please have a quiet word with yourself.
Comment has been collapsed.
What? Lol everyone else also saying thx would cancel out any extra chance you had, so in the end, even if you started with any extra chance, there wouldn't be any. However we know there's no extra chance by commenting because giveaways choose the winner at random. So you were saying?
Comment has been collapsed.
So what you're saying is that there isn't any special coded words to help us all increase our chances of winning
Comment has been collapsed.
I used to complaint about the "thanks spam".
http://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/B8mOu/can-we-stop-commenting-thanks-on-the-giveaway
I found a better idea to combat this kind of situation. Look at my GAs here (no secret GA, they are ended) :P

Now I get to read a few jokes in my inbox instead of counting thanks
Comment has been collapsed.
Thanks for the suggestion. Sorry for not amusing you
Comment has been collapsed.
Nope. It doesn't help and I am fine with it. I usually type some thanks to admire the contribution.
I am totally against increasing the odds by giving comments because there are already too many bots/extensions whatever giving thanks spam.

i just think it's good manners
Also, SUPER STEALTH DROP

This person had written a very special code that increases our chance of winning by 33.333%.

I actually do appreciate people thanking me in a giveaway.

What is it with everyone saying Thank You on giveaways? When I first joined, I thought they were just being nice. I also thought that maybe it increases your chances of winning. Now, I just see it as spam. What is everyone else's thoughts?
