dont rely on levels and groups..just buy the games you want... dont contribute cause you think you may win something back
Comment has been collapsed.
The only way to increase the odds of winning is for one person, is to decrease the odds of winning for others.
To do this is the truest way to lose contributors as it requires wilful negligence on the part of Steamgifts, whereas not winning a giveaway just because your draw didn't come out is a matter of natural probability.
If you must complain, then do so to the universe for not bestowing you with supernatural luck.

What? that is absolutely one of the dumbest things i've heard in a while.
The site's main point is to give games to others. to share. wining games is an extra bonus.
I've given away a number of games on my WishList before i've even bought them for myself simply because in my opinion they are good games and whoever won them would be happy. i also give games that i've enjoyed playing cause i know they would make someone happy.
i've organized a month long event where i've we actually broke the record for the longest train on the site , and guess what ? i didnt win a single game from that train and i am perfectly fine with it.
it was worth it. and i'm already planning on doing it again.

Well...
Giving away games solely to make the Steamgifts level go up, always looking for the 90% discounts, the cheapest non-bundled garbage for maximum CV? Random games nobody will ever install? Yeah, I'd call that dumb.
But I think that's kinda missing the point. If your goal in giving games is to "buy" better odds at winning something for yourself, something random that you may not even want to play, then you're going to waste a lot of money. It's not efficient. Just buy the games you actually want, and give away nothing.
There are people around here with hundreds of wins, who have never made a single giveaway. There are also people who gave away one thing years ago to reach "LEVEL 1", and have been coasting ever since. So if you're mainly here for the free stuff, do that. Especially since you're already "LEVEL 7" - you'll see all sorts of giveaways those "LEVEL 1" people can't even enter.
On the other hand, if you want to give away games just to make some random internet person happy, you could do that too. Give away a game you think is great. Maybe some indie thing people didn't hear about. Maybe some online game that needs more players. Get the word out. Maybe some of the people who don't win end up buying it for themselves. That's a win for one random internet person, and the developer too. :)
I dunno. Merry Christmas! :)

I see it as a community with a wheel of fortune - although I mostly lurk and haven't given much - I also haven't received much, but that's not why I'm here - it's the journey, not the destination. Don't expect anything and just have fun, that's the way to go with these things.

Try viewing your stats to check your probability of winning. Some SG users have been here a whole lot longer, and waited even longer than a couple of weeks with only 300+ entries. If you are only here to wins games then I suggest join groups like Unlucky7; enter giveaways found in discussion threads like You're Not Alone; and do not be so picky about the games you're wanting to win. Most importantly, keep on giving to raise your levels to increase your chances. Also keep in mind that it is always random, however, this post probably put you on many blacklists... thus lessening your chances.
Merry Christmas and good luck!

It took me longer than that to get my first win and then I think I won three in one day. Such is luck (or at least statistics). If you feel things should be different then look into the available groups, spend more time on puzzles and other opportunities for low entry giveaways and so on and so forth. Merry Christmas in any event!

I had my first win after 3000+ entries and given 30+ games...
After that I learned to join groups, then I started to have better wins.

It's designed to take, because for a user it's 10000 times more easy to give, than to win. And this is because the concept of this site is poor. Probability is not a god, whose ass people are expected to kiss. If all you're capable of inventing is probability driven, you're a foolish inventor. Your task is to make your system work eliminating chances of crashing. On Steamgifts, a properly working system would provide reasons for users to create more GAs. As it is, it provides no such reasons, because the level system is dead, Until it's reanimated, SG is bound to continue losing contributors.

I do not think we should be looking for a better system somewhere. We can try to make this particular system work. Or we can do nothing and see what happens (see my calculations below).
If you want to know if I personally have any suggestions, then yes, I do. I just want to see that what we are discussing here is an issue people want to be addressed.

Addressing a problem with solutions works much better than just stating over and over that yes, it's a problem. If you didn't have any suggestions how to make it better, you would be agreeing that the current system is the best we can have. If you have the suggestions, it's much faster to just say them.

It's not me who must start the discussion. I am just a regular user lacking in authority. It all depends upon cg or someone like him. When they say, 'This IS a problem. Please, be more active in making suggestions...', I promise that I won't be just a bystander. In that case, I won't have to read comments denying the obvious (at the very least).
Comment has been collapsed.
You already started the discussion and have been continuing it without actually saying anything. Please just tell us your improvements already or you agree that this is the best system ever, cg already asked for them.
Are you ashamed that your system isn't as good as you think or why are you spending much more time saying nothing?
Comment has been collapsed.
I want to see a person with authority start the discussion, which would invite everyone concerned to participate and by the mere fact eliminate all opposition from the people who like to say that what IS happening isn't really happening.
I'm not going to introduce any new perfect system. Why are you trying to make me look like Mao Zedong or something? All I have is a bunch of suggestions. And, I hope, so do other users.
Comment has been collapsed.
You just keep replying without saying anything. Please only reply when you finally feel comfortable enough to share your suggestions with others. Otherwise stop making silly arguments like the current system is bad if you are completely unable to tell us even one improvement to it. Other users are able to open their mouths for something other than whining and put their suggestions in the forum area clearly labeled for them because they know that's the only way they will ever reach other users and staff. Now it looks like you're just trolling because you're ANGRY ON PROBABILITY.

Isn't it, that we're losing the ones who near-exclusively only give away free games, trashware, and junk bundle games?
Y'know, the ones who rather impressively [this would be so, so, so very much calling out] to a significant degree?
The same ones who insist that they shouldn't give because their only purpose here is in taking, and who imply that because gifting isn't profitable enough, it's a scam?
..oh, hang, that's all still the same topic, isn't it. :S
Sorry, this thread is hitting so many "SG Facepalm Bingo" boxes, I'm having trouble keeping track of all of them.

People who win the most giveaways do it by logging on often to enter and manage giveaways thus generating the most ad revenue, while inconsiderate assholes like me who make giveaways use up server space that costs the site money. Amongst other things I've been told that before to justify why I'm wrong and others are right. Everything just needs to be considered with the correct perspective. Any metric is open to abuse.

Oh, man, learn to read stats properly, it's not that difficult.
https://www.steamgifts.com/stats/community/giveaways
December 2016: 110.655 GAs. Percentage of free games: 0.4. => 110.212 GAs.
December 2017. 74.804 GAs. Percentage of free games: 12.5. => 65.453 GAs
December 2018 (6 days to go) 45.641 GAs. Percentage of double* GAs: 16.7 => 38.018 GAs (we can expect about 45.000 GAs)
In August we almost fell below 40.000 (40.443), and that's exactly what is bound to happen in 2019.
How low do we have to fall before you admit that the sharp decline is real?

What I'm doing here is my buisness.Once admins order me to report my activities to you, I'll either do that or leave for good. You'll just have to wait until it happens,
Giveaways Entered 17,367
That number will stay. I'm not going to enter any GAs here anytime soon. I hope you're satisfied.

Dude, the day I start caring whether you enter any giveaways will be the same day that I get a pet unicorn. Enter, don't enter, do what makes you happy! Or at least slightly less angry.
I'm just pointing out your hypocrisy, and enjoying your indignation. Good times!

What would be a better system than probability / rng? What would incentivize users to create more giveaways? I think many top contributors give for the sake of giving, rather than earning a level. It's not like there are a bunch of secret AAA giveaways once you get to lvl 8, 9, 10...

As is the nature with broad games of chance, it is easier to pay the ante than to win the jackpot. However on this site, you are not required to pay anything.
If you want an actual gambling site, I suggest you go elsewhere and stop projecting your anger at the fair system we have rather than acknowledging the fault of your lack of foresight. This place has made no effort to hide its workings, and asking for clarification or opinions on matters would have yielded you clear feedback. You have every right to feel annoyed at your poor investment if you accidentally took contribution activities to be a form of down-payment on later earnings, but once you begin to get obnoxious about matters and project it upon the site, that's when people will respond less pleasantly.
Step back, take a deep breath, reconsider your actions.

If you really care about winning games, enter some private groups. Generally they will have some rules like "must give at least 1 game to the group each month" and such, but because there are so few people in them there's significantly less competition (and thus better chances of you winning).
Alternatively be especially awesome and some people will probably put you on their whitelists so you can enter whatever whitelist giveaways they do. Most of my best wins come from generous folks who have whitelisted me :)

Thank you for writing in, angry on Steamgifts!
Unfortunately, this isn't actually an advice column, but rather a tech support service.
As such, we must ask- have you turned it off and on again? And then off again? And then kicked it out of a window?
Try that, it'll help relieve everyone's stress.
Sincerely,

I'm sitting at 8,806 entries and 15 wins, averaging a win every 587 entries. Still, that's 15 games I didn't have before I joined this site!
