Ubisoft has announced a Splinter Cell remake after about two years of constant requests in their comment section.
9 years on, we're finally getting a Splinter Cell game.

Hopeful snippets - "a remake takes what you’d do in a remaster and goes a little bit further with it."
"we're building it from the ground up, we're going to update it visually, as well as some of the design elements to match player
comfort and expectations"
"we are going to keep it linear like the original games, not make it open world."
"With this remake, we are building a solid base for the future of Splinter Cell."

The last one implies that future games will be released as well, so this one better be good.

Ubisoft, don't mess this up.

I hope not. And the Ghost Recon NFTs don't even make any sense. They're just single-ownership cosmetics, better than the usual NFTs, yes, but just a cheap move to cash in. Hoping they get enough flak to remove it from all their games.

No thankyou. Please leave this IP alone Ubi$oft. With the way you've been destroying IPs like The Division and Ghost Recon, this isn't good news at all 😨

To be fair, they've been getting constant pressure from longtime fans of the series for them to release a new game.

Rockstar just showed how easy it is to use long time fans and feeling of nostalgia to scam every fan in existence.
Personally "pressure from fans" sounds like an excuse to revive another franchise which to make money with. This will most likely have 20 DLC`s before the game comes out. 5 pre order versions with full version going for 150 bucks. Getting nostalgia hype to earn them money without even launching the game.

Partly agree.
All corporations work for money. That's their motivation. They're not hobbyists, this is their living, so working for money is understandable. The only thing they need to do is to make sure their consumer base stays, which they can only do by releasing good games. Rockstar's decision came out of the blue and released very soon after, a huge red flag. Not to mention that GTAVI was far more requested as compared to a remaster, so fans didn't really want it.
I'm not exaggerating the pressure from fans. If you go to any Ubisoft trailer relating to Tom Clancy, you'll undoubtedly find "We want a new Splinter Cell game, not this shit." as one of the top comments, so even if it's nostalgia hype, it has been asked for. But I can see where you're coming from. If this is actually nostalgia bait, it would easily make money, since it's been widely requested. And yeah, there's no doubt that they're going to suck every last penny from the customers with 5 DLCs announced pre-launch, a 100 dollar pre-order and an overpriced collector's edition.

As a huge fan of the series, I'm not sure I want this. Because with the way Ubisoft works these days, they will take what was a perfect single player experience and find ways to cram in as much 'live service' junk as they can. Time limited events, crossover events, new costumes, screenshot competitions, and some kind of social integration to help or compete with other players. I wish big game devs would realise there is nothing wrong with keeping the 'internet of things' out of games sometimes. Let me just immerse myself in a fantasy world where I'm a sneaky spy without pop ups telling me that there's an event near me or 'noobmaster274' needs my help.

Fingers crossed they'll make a great traditional singleplayer game (with added co-op perhaps), and the multiplayer will be a different part of it. Ubisoft desperately need to go back to their roots, or their shoots, whatever their highest point was.

Yeah the traditional co-op and multiplayer modes they had were great. I just don't know they would be able to resist the temptation to throw everything in there, instead of keeping it simple like it used to be.

Yup, same here.
Zero expectations towards this.

The interview makes you think that they are so invested in pushing technological limits..... but we all know that is bullshit ... Every developer claims that but end up ruining the game just for some quick buck.
IF this turns out to be good, I`ll be damned surprised.

Yeah exactly. They feel they need to justify the price tag for a new game. The reality is, most fans of the series are going to be happy if they make a game like chaos theory in terms of gameplay and plot. Graphics can be updated to a modern style, but that's all it really needs. Keep the budget lower. Because what always happens with these kind of things is they stretch the boundaries too much and make the budget too high, then they have to change the gameplay to suit a bigger market, to create more sales to make profit on the huge budget they spent, and then core fans are frustrated because the soul of the game is gone.
Nowadays big studios are just too afraid to make a game that is too 'niche', so they all start to feel the same, when in fact what made us fans of games back in the day, was their uniqueness. Anyway, I guess we'll see when this one finally comes out.

I also have a sneaking suspicion this news came out as some sort of damage control, right after that NFT announcement from last week

Really?
From the SC games I've played, Chaos Theory is my favorite... I know it's an old game now but AFAIK it's still very playable. I don't really see the need for a remake. I don't have much faith in the first game's remake anyway. Reading about this reminded me of the Thief reboot and how disappointing it was (to me), compared to the original Thief games.

How about fixing Pandora Tomorrow on modern PC's instead. Or at least putting up SC oldies on GOG. I don't have faith the remake will be good.

I have absolutely no faith in Ubisoft. The only thing I expect from them now is a trash game with probably NFT's baked into it. And the way other remakes have fared this year, I'm have even less faith in any Splinter Cell remake.
