It seems that many Steam Users are irritated by the developer-Tag. Some think those are somewhat related to steamgifts as a developer and therefore might be outstanding trustworthy.
As the tag is obviously not only used by real "developers" of games, but mainly by people that are just advertisers/promoters of their sites/groups whatever. Why not change it to Advertiser. That would also cover a developer that advertises his Game. And it describes much more what they do here on Steamgifts.

Seems, that some people don't like "Advertiser" , maybe they like promoter more....my main aspect is that developers is the wrong description.
Feel free to make suggestions.
IΒ΄m am old frog and a fan of fitting descriptions from a generation that still thinks not every janitor is a facility-manager

What do you think: keep Developer or change the description to Advertiser?

Promoter?

I like Promoter better than Advertiser. These people tend to give away tons of good stuff (or, in some cases, just tons of stuff), and Advertiser makes it sound like they are merely an annoyance. They contribute a lot to the community, so I wouldn't want to drive them out (except the ones that don't activate their wins...).

...or those, that tend to harass real devs for keys. ;)

How about... spammer?

Because that is what some members with a "developer" tag are

I agree... Even though some people are devs this may help clear up any confusion new users may have.

In essence they are promoting their game to gain support.

I don't know...
You are right that they're not exactly developers (at least usually not, I think), but I would search for a better name than "advertiser".

Honestly: developer in this context is blatantly a wrong title, leading to wrong assumptions.

I'm a fan of fitting descriptions too despite the fact that most people nowadays have chosen to accept misunderstandings, mistakes and such things just to be able to use descriptions and definitions "their way".

If 'advertiser' feels too negative.... well it is what they're doing: advertising. So maybe they should reconsider what they are doing :p But on a more constructive note there are plenty of other words to use that fit their purpose better than developer: promoter, marketeer etc.

How about Rudeface Scammonkey?

Oh, fine, Promoter works, I guess. 0:P

Gotta make allowances for the developers here that do try their best [and there are some! I've seen them!], even if most just want to beg for games and troll likes or greenlight votes. :/

Could change it to Advocate. That doesn't sound derogatory, but it implies they are supporting a cause or have motives.

Supporting the idea. Tagging members as developers when not all of them are developers is misleading

The gene pool is stagnant, and I am the Minister of Chlorine.
Minister of Chlorine Title might be better suited for a Moderator though....that could get confusing too

It could be clarified with something like "Game Developer" or maybe call them "Contributor"

Edit:
Though in thinking about it some more. Why have any tag at all?

How about Promoter?

They should have both --

One for developers giving away their game that they developed, and one for those advertising for groups/websites/etc Developers should be checked out and verified before being given the tag.

Just my two cents. :P

Why do they need a special title at all? Just give them the extra giveaway slots when they ask for them and move on. IMO the only people here who need titles are staff.
