Hello,
Is it normal for a game to drop 1 card per hour? The amount of time needed to farm cards is very long.....is there a way to speed up the card drop rate? And I don't want to use a 3rd party program to idle cards.

the first card won't drop for at least 2 hours. Thereafter, it varies, but 1 per hour sounds like a decent average.
There's no way to speed it up.

The cards are (supposed to be) a reward for playing, not some automatic entitlement.

Well, as long as the store page says the game drops cards, we're entitled to them automatically. Also, the 2 hour first drop doesn't apply to every account though idk the exact parameters.

It depends on whether someone has requested refunds for games before or not. So if you've refunded a game, cards won't start dropping before the 2 hour mark. Most likely, at least - I don't think Valve have ever officially confirmed this, but there have been user polls to determine it.
But some developers also set their drop speeds that way.

Before I had any refunds (only 1 refund now) the 2-hour wait was still present. Pretty sure the 2-hour wait wasn't there when they came out with refunds last summer, then they implemented the wait after a few people tried to collect the cards then refund the game to get free cards.

So, it's just there whether you've requested refunds or not.

As I said, some developers set their card drop rates that way. Some games drop cards after 2 hours for me, but for most games they start dropping within the first hour, whereas my friends who have had refunds don't get their cards for the same games before 2 hours.

first all got 2h min time after refund exploits happen, some weeks later they lifted those 2h for those who didn't refund anything

Makes sense, I probably just didn't notice.

well, with idlemaster i dont need to idle 2 hours to start getting drops
i idle games individually and i get 1 drop every 30 minutes
so it usually takes 1,5 hours to idle a game with 3 drops
although sometimes my idlemaster glitches and after first 30 minutes, i start getting a drop only every 1 hour
and i doubt you can somehow speed it up
in old times it used to be every few mins, it took 30 minutes to idle 3 drops

That's not a glitch... Some games just take more time to be idled :P

yeah like "Belladonna" I think I actually played around 4 hours without getting a single drop, them I couldn't be bothered with the game & turned on IM. All in all I think it too approx 7 hours with game play time + im to drop all the cards.

Usually it does seem to take around 1 to 3 hours with IM to drop all cards per game depending on the amount of cards, however I think the time must vary between games as to how long it takes, whether that's controlled by Steam or the devs I have no idea.

I don't know about the time for card drops, but sometimes it is really way to slow. I think it is quite sad to complete the game but not have all cards of it. Might be, that the game is to short or to easy, but maaaaybe the time for carddrop is to long :D

Or maybe the game is short and only has 1 achievement. Imagine beating a game, and not having all the card drops.
If that were the case, I would idle at the main menu screen.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm doing. Like having the game running and being afk, because it still takes hours for the last cards -.-

Ah ... that explains why it's taking longer with some games.
I noticed, it does take unusually long for Galak-Z for me right now.
I'm currently at 10.2 hours and still missing one out of 5 drops.

Sadly, they aren't any more valuable just because they're hard to farm.

For Galak-Z it took me 11.1 hours to get the drops... and I beat all the 4 seasons in less than half of this .. I assume that some devs just like to boast how much playtime their players get out of a pretty boring game ...

Hehe beat you on that ... took me 11.2 hours (see below).
I'm just glad, Digital Homicide didn't pick up on that trend yet,
so far the cards for their "games" were pretty decent to farm.

Also the card drop rate was changed for some games after the new refund policy steam brought in. As in. You can refund a game if you have less then 2 hours of game-play on it. Hence the 2 hour wait you will get sometimes with the card drops.

You are right CosmicDucky, I am aware of the refund policy. It recently took me six hours for all my cards to drop -- that is way too long (the first two hours do not drop any cards, as you said).

the first two hours do not drop any cards

First, I used Idle Master to get 2h of playtime for each game (30 at the same time!)
Then switched to Archi's Steam Farm which is phenomenal. I run it at computer startup and keep it on all the time.
I even installed it on my computer at work :-)

The drop card rate depends on the game, Faeverse Alchemy took about 7 hours to drop all cards, while other games take around 1:30~2:30.

After 2 hours, the cards start getting dropped, but still, the card drop frequency depends on the game. Other games drop all the cards very fast, while others require many hours of playtime till they give you all their cards. :P

I think Wasteland 2 takes around 16 hours to get all cards.
Funny thing is they are worth 4c each. ^^

I've been using Idle master for a while now and its great. However, when playing with VAC-enabled games, such as DOTA 2, CS:GO, etc, you should log out from Idle master or take the risk to be VAC banned. For me, I'm using Idle master while watching videos or just plain surfing.

The only way I noticed to speed it up is with Idle Master (sometimes). I noticed if I have it idle all of my games with less than 2 hours at the same time ... sometimes it'll drop cards before the 2 hr mark, and when it does it always drops a card for every single game currently running.
