Wow that looks really great! Does anyone when you redeem it you keep it forever?

Ah, so generous of Steam. One of their oldest titles and we're allowed to play it for free for a while.

story was poorly written. it was trying to be 3 things at once, when all people wanted was more story on things that already existed. its just filled with plot holes and dont get me started on that dumb ass ending with pycho bitch elizabeth. the game is kinda like starwars 7 8 9 and solo storys. mostly a cash grab on a fan base already in place well shitting on the original story's.

Honestly going back to Rapture for the third time would have been too boring, and although some of the story elements of Infinite are messy to say the least, it was a great shooter that kinda had a different focus than the original game. The story could have used a bit of polish, sure, but frankly so does the storytelling of the original game. I think Infinite does enough things differently to justify its presence.

would love a game where you played as a normal person living in rapture when shit went down. with the ability to take sides, join cults, and just try to stay alive for as long as possible.

I think you couldn't understand the story, which makes you hate the game.
I enjoyed it, both gameplay-wise and story-wise. I personally think it is even better when everything is not obvious. Otherwise i feel like the game is written for the idiots.

I liked the story, including the ending. I also found it way more refreshing than Bioshock 2, which was good, but very similar to Bioshock 1. It's all personal preference in the end, and it's fine that you didn't like it, of course. But I really don't see a cash grab there. I got the feeling the people who made it tried to make a good game with a good story. They might have failed in your opinion, but I don't think their intentions weren't honest.

I think it just changed too many things from the previous games. I kinda liked it as a shooter, though I missed the more survival-y elements from 1-2.
Also this is likely a pet peeve, but time/dimension traveling where a single thing changes is absurd... it always happens in every media. Ignoring that was a pretty good action-game with some deeper thoughts sprinkled on it. I liked it overall.

I absolutely understand the argument, I just didn't feel that way when playing it. Yes, it is very different, but I didn't feel it was worse at all. I might even have had more fun with it than with the first one (hard to say after such a long time). I know for sure it was more fun than BS2. For me at least.

nothing you do in the story matters at all, lazy writing. they give you the Illusion of choice and throw it all out the window with a big fuck you the big one, could also talk about plot hole for DAYS. didnt even use one of those asinine quantum explanations that just uses a big word to fix all the problems. went in playing the game before reading or watching any reviews to taint my 1st time, 1st thing i did when i finished was look up other endings. fuck everyone and everything by killing every last person you run into nets you the same ending as killing the bare minimum.

Bioshock 1 had an insultingly unimaginative final boss fight, and almost binary "choices" that went as deep as "be bad an get lot of points fast, or nice and get somewhat less on the long run". Bioshock never was a game of choices, you are NEVER in control in them, just play along with how they whistle.
it's illogical to bring up your expectations about something that never was promised - also all games had that "problem".

bioshock infinite is made for fornite players. get in, get out, get it over with! simplistic game that only shows stuff right in front of your face, no depth to any of it. try exploring and you meet dead ends and low res buildings. bioshock 1 and 2 are filled with little pockets of content that can be missed. it the m night shamamalan of video games. did it make lots of money? YES, was it memorable and is it going to be watched and played a 2nd time, or 10 years down the line. NO

Well it's still played by hundreds of people every day, (more people play it than the first game) so it looks like it is something that will be played 10 years down the line.
I think what you wanted was more of Bioshock, which is fair, but Infinite didn't try to be a systemic sim like the other two games, instead it wanted a more cinematic narrative and a fleshed out companion character with some fun shooter action. I think it did have great worldbuilding, maybe not as great the first game, but still it had themes to explore and an interesting setting and unique fps mechanics, which is already more than you can say for 90% of todays fps games, sadly. I did like the original game more, to be frank, but Infinite wasn't bad, in my opinion.

Man, don't go full salty. Never worth being invested in something you don't like that you try to talk people out of liking it so much that you can't make 4 lines of coherent text. ( fortnite players, simplistic, no depth, low res, you're just throwing whatever you can get your hands on)
It's okay that you don't like it, but it's super bogus as you present it.

How is this about winning? You're exchanging opinions. You cannot "win" this. When you say you didn't like the story, that's not debating facts. That's your personal opinion. Other's are free to have a different one.
And I think he is actually right. You seem over-eager to convince us that your opinion is the right one. You're even borderline insulting people who play BS3 (by calling them Fortnite players which is obviously a negative attribute in your mind). You liked BS1 better, other people like BS3 better. No big deal. Both are mainstream games, built for the masses. Both explore a few interesting ideas and offer a great setting and atmosphere. But in the end they're just shooters. BS1 is not the holy grail of gaming, It's honestly not as deep as you might think (very enjoyable nonetheless), and it's not necessary to defend it to the death, just as it's not necessary to act like BS:I is the worst game ever.

the game was meh, what pissed people off was that they downgraded every fucking thing about the game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muJYTeQlvC4 could have been a masterpiece but they botched the story and bailed on all the decent ideas to just use the same things over and over and over

This is a pretty decent excuse to finally getting around to play these games.
I already own HL2 and its episodes + Black Mesa, so I'd only play the first game. Should I go with the original or the source version? I probably won't play it untill a couple of weeks from now anyway cos I'm already in the middle of something.

Ah, shame I already have a list of games to play within the next months. Would replay some good old HL otherwise :)

Have all those anyway, but it's a nice move. I played a bit of Half Life 2 not too long ago. Still a decent looking game with a great atmosphere. Can absolutely recommend it, even today.
EDIT: You can even play it in VR, as preparation for Alyx! Check this out: https://youtu.be/ePzyRIXbxjc?t=944

I wouldn't play Ravenholm in VR. No, thanks! No. Just no.
First time I played it, it was late in the night (because I couln't stop playing HL2) and I won't make the same mistake again.
But it is fun to observe the guy in the video :D

It's a bit interesting how they implemented it. I think they are just using the same code for Free Weekend and adjusting the time frame to be 2 months.

One good thing about time limit is that it sure does motivate to play the games rather than just store them in my library... :D
