Hi guys!

Some of you know me from comment section and some of you even talked to me in my giveaways or on Steam. Today question is a bit different and I am looking for an inspiration or even a small help. I am currently teaching History and English language at an elementary school in Brno, Czech Republic, and we have recently acquired a few interactive white boards which I totally tend to utilize as much as possible.

At this moment I am trying to use a few PC games from my Steam library to help my pupils with English and to show them that games can be more than just mindless shooting or running from left to right to avoid obstacles. I have installed Metamorphabet for 6-8 year olds to teach them the basic pronunciation and new vocabulary, Scribblenauts to teach “my” 13 year olds improvisation, Hidden folks to teach prepositions and Letter Quest: Grimm's Journey to … well, that is basically for everyone.
Because of that I am looking for games, any advice or even developers that would be able to send me a few keys for their games for this small experiment.

Thanks for any help and have a wonderful day!
Ascate

Ps. If this should be in off-topic instaed of general feel free to move me around :) thanks

Do you think using PC games in education is a good idea?

Point and click adventures, with some hand holding since they can be a little obtuse occasionally. Voice in one language, subtitles in another. Lots of repetition, no reason to rush through it.

problem with those is time - they are usually too long for being played 20-30 min 1-2 times per month :) I would probably need episodic point and click ... something like Monkey Island from Telltale

I used to play games to learn english as a kid. There's a fishing game where words are written in the fishes and you type those words to fish them. There's also the reader rabbit series. I don't know if they are still available today.

I think they are not visually stimulating enough for 10 year olds sadly :/ I was trying to show them frosty the snowman and they were falling asleep :/

dont take me wrongly, I would love to use games like that, but the kids are ... well, kinda spoiled from mobile phones and home games

Just to give you guys a small update.
I have been so far able to get a few keys for my school:
20x Metamorphabet
8x Crayon Physics Deluxe
1x Hidden Folks
1x Monster Prom

Since we had Christmas lessons I was able to do 2 full lessons with 5th graders (10-11 year olds) and they totally loved it :) The only bad thing is that Cryon Physics Deluxe keeps decalibrating our interactive white board for some unknown reason :-D

I have also taken a lot of your suggestions into account and I have emailed the devs if they would like to participate in the experiement :) Sadly majority of them didn't respond (and ubisoft just declined :-D )

That's a great idea! Wish you all the luck!
I was born in Brazil and basically that was how I learned english (at least what I know :p).
Yeah, we also study it at school, but 95% of what I learnt came from Games, Movies and TV Shows.
Since I didn't have Steam at my early age, got what I have now from playing Pokémon, Mario, Zelda and other things on the Gameboy and Gamecube :p

You have actually given me an idea - I may also use emulators for gameboy games for example! I don't have to focus just on pc because of that :)

Great to hear you've been able to get keys and use some games in class.
I don't have any suggestions that haven't been written already, but good luck finding more!
