You don't need to carry a gun

Next time title this more accurately, I don't need this on a gaming site.

It pops up in the Active section below the giveaways, I expected to give some gaming/tech advice and found this. Needless to say I am not excited about guns in real life. There are more approriate forums for this.

If you're going to carry take some time down at a range firing them. Think about things like cleaning it. If you hit the range regularly, as you should if you're going to carry a weapon, you'll need to clean it regularly and the amount of effort and skill that takes is an important factor for a new gun owner. Also take your time to really judge which feels the best in your hand and which you're the most comfortable firing. Any awkwardness will simply make it more difficult to hit your target leading to the possibility of bystanders being hit.

As for caliber, some people dislike 9mm because they feel it has a lack of stopping power. Others dislike higher calibers because they feel they have a harder time controlling the weapon. I'd ignore caliber considerations on your first weapon and just get the one you're most happy and comfortable with. You can always get more later...

Asking others opinions on aesthetics for a concealed weapon? Who cares what other people think of the weapon they should never see unless an emergency arises? Not to mention there are fans of every single one of those guns. You won't really get any valuable feedback unless you're trying to pick a sidearm for a fashion show...

Glad I'm not living in the United States.

One question though; do people carry guns, because everyone else does and they're afraid of not being able to defend themselves, like in a robbery? I mean, I've been robbed before, and I bet my chance of being killed would have been tons higher if I had a weapon with me.

Also, liveleak had taught me, that carrying a gun in any police encounters will get you shot for sure. I don't blame them. (Take this comment with a grain of salt.)

Not practical, doesn't feed hollow points well,no conceal holsters, and a spec of dust will make a Luger P08 jam, very unpractical. The Luger makes a better art piece than a functional carry gun.

Here, take the unofficial list of approved full sized handguns

Unfortunately almost nothing you listed is small enough for reasonable CCW, but perhaps the list will help narrow it down.

And the way I was thinking was sort of subcompact, like LC9 sized, but now that I actually read the post most of the guns you listed are "compact."

Wanting to carry guns doesn't even remotely mean we live in fear. It means we want to be prepared.

you are more likely to hurt yourself (or get shot by your own children) than by another armed person.

you call it freedom, but you live in constant fear. that fear prevents you from using your brain properly. you cannot explain the success of the republicans otherwise ^^

so my advice is: if you live in fear, get some medication instead of a gun.

well, i trust in natural selection resolving at least parts of that problem.

just compare the statistics with europe.

fun fact: in germany there is even a kind of police officer (well, not "real" ones, but state officials for things such as traffic violations), which are in uniform, but not allowed to carry weapons.

another "fun" fact: gun related deaths/accidents are super rare in europe compared to the us. you must really like to shoot/kill each other.

Can you explain why it was so bad living in Europe? And in which countries did you live?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Other countries only have less gun crime, not less violent crime in general.
I used to live in England and now live in the states, there is a huge difference in overall crime rate.(More there, way less here)
Not to mention a gun ban doesn't prevent criminals from getting or making guns,do you know how easily I could make a Sten SMG in my garage?I would only need sheet metal, nails, and bedsprings,if I had some left over sheet metal and frost plugs I could make a suppressor for it.(silencer)

That's a great range gun,but a poor choice for personal defense as P38's do not feed hollow points very well, and the heel magazine release is not good very good for making fast reloads in a stressed situation, not to mention no one really makes conceal carry holsters for them..Otherwise the P38 is an excellent handgun, just not for carry.

I myself am looking to get a Springfield XDS, which is their single stack subcompact for carrying. I'd suggest 9MM mainly because I own a S&W SD40 and it's ok but the round is almost too much for great accuracy. And I read a great article about why most police forces are switching to 9MM after having done extensive research in ballistics and medical examinations,. They found that the 9MM was easier to handle and be accurate with, and there wasn't any noticeable difference in wound size or damage or "stopping power" if you will between the ranges of .38 to .45 calibers. Doctors themselves couldn't distinguish the wounds. And if you're more accurate with the 9MM, and it does effectively the same damage, it's better to get what you can be more accurate with. As for the type/brand/model pf gun, that's personal preference in comfort, and what you shoot well with.

And I agree with some of your other posts and in that disagree with most of what others are saying. You carry a weapon so that if something were to happen, God forbid, you're prepared. Not so that something will happen. It's as smart as having a spare tire in your car in case you have a flat, so that if it happens, you're prepared.

And it's a obvious fact that in places with more legal gun ownership, the violent crime rate is LOWER than places with less gun ownership. People who get guns illegally are going to get them whether there's laws against it or not. Having more laws restraining gun ownership for law abiding citizens basically is like taping a sign on all their backs and doors saying "Please Mr. criminal, come rob me, I don't own any guns because my government won't let me. So that makes me a very easy target for someone like you to come rob/murder. Sincerely, Law-Abiding-Citizen"

Yeah I fully agree on the insurance thing. Both me and my wife are planning to get our permits soon. We live in TN which has similar laws to TX. My preference for the 9MM is just it's easier to hit the target with than .40 and since is slightly smaller, you normally get one more round which is nice to have. And that since the wounds between that range are hardly different, they offer the same amount of stopping power essentially. The only way to actually stop someone with 1 shot is a hit to the CNS, i.e the brain or spinal column. So really it comes down to what you are personally most accurate with, what is most cost effective (if you're concerned with that), and just what you want. No amount of convincing from my end should sway your decision once you make it. Gun ownership is about responsibility and what you like. People can tell me that I should get a Glock all they want, but I don't like them so I won't be getting one haha

Don't pay any attention to the people voting you don't need a gun, they are ignorant and do not know that we live in a dangerous world where crime can be just a few feet away at any time. They also probably do not understand the U.S. Constitution and that little bit at the end of the 2nd A,that says "The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed".

Most of the guns you listed are pretty heavy, not really everyday carry comfortable unless you are using a $150-$200 Galco Miami Classic Shoulder Holster or a really good IWB holster.(not comfortable if you are to be sitting for long periods of time)Also for defense ammo I would look into Hornady Critical Defense or Winchester Ranger SXT(formerly known as Black Talons),these are about the best SD rounds you will find.

FYI I would you remove the Kimber as Kimbers tend to be very finicky,if you want to carry a 1911 I would get a Springfield or a Colt.
Do not carry the FN57 the 5.7x28 hollow points do not perform very well out of a pistol and don't have much stopping power, not to mention the safety is in a very odd location and it isn't easy to move the safety quickly.

My recommendation is to carry a Sig P220(8 rounds of .45 acp, slightly thinner) or P227(10 rounds of .45 acp, slightly thicker)
If you realize that those are too heavy I recommend the the Sig P238(.380,6 rounds) or P938(9mm,6 rounds),I personally carry 2 Sig P238's when I don't feel like putting on my Shoulder holster with my P220 in it.(one in each pants pocket)
I also carry 1 P238 if I carry my P220,so I have a backup gun incase a criminal knocks my P220 out of my hands or a experience a jam. Also if you haven't fired a .40 pistol before you might not be ready for the recoil,it is more than 9mm +P+,and more than .45 acp +P,the P229 in .357 Sig would be a better option than the .40 version IMO.

Good choice Crossbreeds are very comfortable,I could probably carry a 6" barrled 1911 all day in one,you might want to try a shoulder holster though as I found out I draw the fastest with a shoulder holster.
Go Dan Wesson over Kimber,Dan Wesson is probably the highest quality 1911 you will find before you get into $2300-$4000 custom 1911's.

Definitely go with a Sig or the DW,Sigs IMO are just as good as H&K's and usually easier to conceal.
The P229 is probably the best double stack Sig on the market, that .357 Sig round has some real punch to it,comparable to .357 magnum in 125 grain(minus the recoil). If you like the .357 Sig round Sig Sauer also makes a 1911 in .357 Sig.(awesome I think)

Wow. I'm honestly a little surprised about the poll results. I personally carry a 1911 chambered in 9mm instead of .45. A bit big, as far as frame, for most people, but i live in a state where open carry is also legal, and usually not frowned upon. I was brought up to be prepared, and i will continue to do so. Hopefully, you will never NEED to carry concealed. You may never need house or car insurance as well, but they are seen as almost necessities in many places. My girlfriend will be getting one soon as well. She went through a very troubling story that could have been avoided had she done t earlier, and she only has real peice of mind in many areas when i am with her carrying. I'll be getting a custum hybrid leather-kydex IWB holster for my birthday from a friend that makes them. As far as what round, spend some time down range with your firearm with a box of each. The ballistics of each one can be different model to model, and sometimes gun to gun. Good luck, and may you never need it.

guns are good. muricans like guns and its proven to be a good thing, beause more guns means less robberies and less shootings too.

everyone should have a gun or two, this world would be a much much better place ... /s. at least thats the gist i get from americans trying to describe their umm... freedom to be able to shot other people. or whatever. either way i hope europe never becomes like that, i mean its a freaking country where its perfectly normal to shoot people but if theres nakedness on tv they are like "omg naked people, lets censor that #("("# out".

ah and for the gun, idk whats sag sauer or whatever, but i do have Tag Heuer watch, and i love it. Maybe you should get one instead of a gun too, its a really awesome thing to have.
