sad story bro?
The problem is the quality of those "PvP Games", mostly are just fashion games and they will be abandoned when the hype dies, a very good example is Evolve, mediocre game but everyone played until the hype died D: The only multiplayers game i purchase or play are mmorpg, most shooters or moba clones will always die after a while D:
Sad story... D:

I see plenty of games with a decent user base

The problem is not on Steam, but on the game itself.
Surely you SHOULD NOT compete with DOTA 2, they have huge user base, great game, and they are free.
Surely you SHOULD NOT compete with CS : GO, they have huge user base, and great game too.
The reason that some games are failing is that they fail to compete, it's as simple as that. There is no logical reasons that we should blame Steam for the failures of the "newer" game to compete with Steam.
So, instead of creating another game like DOTA or CS : GO, developers should invent another type of game.
In fact, there are still a lot of MMO that are still quite successful in Steam : Planetside 2, Robocraft, Payday 2, EVE Online, and many more.
The difficulty is a successful MOBA is not the platform, its how your game is better than DOTA, LOL, or other contenders. If your game is better than DOTA 2, surely you will be successful. Don't blame Steam for your mistakes. Concerning FPS, Planetside 2 Heroes and Generals, and Payday 2, are still roaring. Their key? Having a different feel than CS : GO. Planetside 2 and Heroes and Generals are focusing on large scale battles. Payday 2 on some variety on their heists. Insurgency on their class and their increased realism. Each of the "successful" one have something new to offer. If you have nothing new, no one will wants you.

I think it just goes to show that PvP and multiplayer doesn't have the following that developers and publishers think they do. Especially as people get older and have more commitments, a good single player game will ultimately have more appeal to a broader cross-section of gamers.

there are heaps of fairly dead games out there but not all look at stuff like H1Z1, DayZ, ROK all seems to have lots of players to me (disclaimer: I'm actually not that fortunate enough to own or have played on these servers myself though)

Garry's Mod is a lot of things so shut up.
H1Z1, DayZ, Unturned, and Rust may be survival and sometimes co-op but there is no way in hell you can argue that they are aren't PvP (seriously ... how many players team up with random strangers in those games?).
Arma 3, okay ... I'm glad you can "see" the future.
Warframe I haven't played much of so I'm unsure.
Also if you're going to be so strict with your "definition" of what it is you're talking about and not be moved to say that your initial argument is wrong no matter how much we prove it is ... then why the hell are did you even start this thread?

Couldn't it be that since PvP in FPS is literally the same since Doom 1, people just realized that instead of shooting each other with the same weapons in seven hundred different games, it would be easier to shoot each other in one game and it became CS:GO? (Plus the old Quake 1 scene.) I mean I sure cannot see much difference in, for example, Counter-Strike, Titanfall or any CoD game's FFA DM MP gameplay apart from different maps and calling weapons different names.

It's easy to blame only one thing for a reason affected by so many factor

I'm not in any way blaming Steam. Whatever the resons are. Steam became a garveyard. I'm just saying that I'm gonna stop buying those games.

I think I really need to get into the Football Management Sims.. I see tonnes of people playing it all the time.. I am guessing they are what we call the 'fantasy league' genre.. I seriously don't know if that is what it is really called.. someone please correct me on that one.. I just remember my more sport enthusiastic friends always talking about their latest fantasy football or i think back in the day it was mostly fantasy NBA teams and news and etc... Seems cool but I never actually got into it.. haha maybe someone should make a 'Fantasy Fantasy Team Battles/Rosters Simulator' where random heroes and warriors etc and their pets can battle against other heroes and warriors and pets and maybe even other group challenges such as minions?? or demonic bosses or something.. haha.. lol.. wait this sounds like a weird but funny old browser game now.. lol eww :/

Most of these games will disappear in a year or two anyways, Steam or not. Steam has nothing to do with it - besides that Steam's advertisements and discounts wil more likely make you buy them at the first place. (Random Free to play MMO on Steam seems to be more intresting as random F2P MMO ad in a browser. But they are similarly bad and both are in the same oversaturated market)
Steam is a "graveyard" only because people publish their game here. The games would sell similarly bad and would disappear maybe even earlier.

You're complaining but after seeing what you have in your library, I don't know why. The only games that enter your catagories (PVP and with a dead community) are Aerena, Primal Carnage and Gun Monkeys.
You don't have "any multiplayer FPS or Moba dead or barrely breathing" in your library.

This is one of times I prefer consoles for multiplayer games. Even for niche games, quite a few people will play them.
On PC, multiplayer games die quite quickly after awhile. It's one of the reasons I worry about getting MGS5 on PC. I know MGO will have the biggest community on PS4, and probably the longest lasting. Although maybe because MGS5 is a popular name, when it goes on sale people will be more willing to buy and play it online.

Dear steam I want more zombie and pvp multiplayer games. thank you. I know we already have a lot, but we need more. keep feeding us. I will buy every single one. also please add llamas. the fans want zombie and llama games. also turn on friendly fire so you have 2 enemies (players and zombies). make llamas mounts and ride around shooting zombies and people. then you'll get so much money drown and die. I agree steam needs some better pvp games but preferably with zombies and llamas...

I'm not getting any other multiplayer (PvP) game on steam. Every game is dead or dying. Any Multiplaer FPS or Moba is dead or barrely breathing. As soon as they enter Steam they loose players to Dota2 , CS:GO and die. Well there are couple of co-ops that are doing OK. MMORPGs are fine cos Valve doesn't have anything to kill those. But it's a sad story bro.
