Do you think that Chelsea Manning's Sentence should be commuted?
Knew about this beforehand and was disgusted. The treatment is very inhumane, to the point where she attempted suicide, and then they try to put the nail in the coffin by sending her to solitary confinement. Stupid authoritarian government.

Its a standard practice for suicide attempts in incarceration facilities worldwide. Afterall if all items that can be used to harm yourself are taken from you and you are subjected to video cameras in cell, the chance he succeeds is fairly low. This policy is welcomed in all levels of administration even the lowliest guards - there are too many ****ing papers to fill if the prisoner actually kills himself. So while I am not that familiar with incarceration procedures in America, it is fairly likely that the original impetus for that originated from a lower level than the actual policy makers and just got copied from one nation to another. All hidden within flowery politically correct speak and humanitarian concerns of course because that's the world we live in.

She*
It's she*.
You don't get to decide other people's genders. Call them whatever you want, they are what they are. It is something existing entirely within their minds and you will never even have a semblance of a claim to it.
All this achieves is make you look petty and hateful, bit like a 6th grader, that found out something bothers a classmate of theirs, so they just keep doing it to annoy them. That's it. It does nothing. It's not a statement. It has no purpose that it serves beyond showing your disrespect of others based on arbitrary factors. I do not see why you or anyone would choose to do that, but perhaps it is the time for some reflection on your life and your choices, and why you do the things you do, and whether that is ultimately who you want to be as a person.

A transphobe isn't triggered by people misgendering trans women? Who would have though. What an achievement. Truly, I must praise your mental hardness.

People trying to kill themselves and the solution is to put them in solitary confinement? That will just make their mental health worse. You don't leave a person alone inside a dark cell no matter what. It's not a solution. I don't care if some officers are too worried about filling papers to do anything about it.

Bump :) I signed! Totally agree with you, she should not even be in jail :)

Wait WHAT it worked! 51 minutes later it worked! I was NOT expecting it to hah. But hey, I've had this game recommended to me more times than I can count so time to see what that was all about. Thank you!! <3

EDIT: I've moved it to off-topic since a couple of people seem to feel that it should be there, but I still don't understand the categories and can't find any guidelines. For instance, things like cakeday giveaways are common in General.. should they be in off-topic? I don't know.
Anything related to Steamgifts or Steam goes to General. Everything that's not related to Steamgifts or Steam goes to Off-Topic.
Cake-days are a Steamgifts thing so they go under General. On the other hand Birthday threads aren't related to Steamgifts or Steam so those are Off-Topic.

Is the only difference between a cake-day and a birthday thread that a cake-day thread has gibs / train? If so, is the presence of any steamgifts giveaways sufficient to make something "related to steamgifts"?
I sincerely still don't understand, but anyway I'll err on the side of Off-Topic.

Cake-day is SG birthday, aka the date you registered on SG. As such it's related to SG and goes to General.
Your real life birthday is not related to SG, therefore it's Off-Topic.
Whether or not you post giveaways in your thread doesn't matter.

Interesting fact about SG: I've been added to 6 blacklists and 2 whitelists from this thread, as far as I can tell. I don't really mind, but I wonder if the blacklists are from people who disagree, people who don't like having 'politics / issues' here, or just people who don't like my presentation.

EDIT: Thank you to everyone who signed the petition! I just wanted to revive the thread since Obama decided to commute her today, so she will be released in May of this year! If you signed the petition, then you helped save Chelsea's life and grant her freedom, so thank you! :)
Below is the original thread, which I might add some giveaways to later to celebrate.
We reached the goal; thank you to everyone who signed!
If you haven't signed yet, you can sign here:
https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/commute-chelsea-mannings-sentence-time-served-1
For those who are interested, you can write to Chelsea using the information here: https://www.chelseamanning.org/learn-more/write-to-chelsea-manning (it's her birthday on the 17, just like Mega Man)
In case you don't know, Chelsea Manning is the military leaker who, before Snowden, released:
the Collateral Murder video that exposed the killing of unarmed civilians and two Reuters journalists by a US Apache helicopter crew in Iraq
the Afghan War Diary that revealed uninvestigated civilian casualties and contractor abuse
the Iraq War Logs that revealed civilian casualties, and uninvestigated reports of torture
the US diplomatic cables that revealed the role that corporate interests and spying play in international diplomacy
And who, after her conviction, has been a strong advocate for transgender rights in military prison, helping to push the government to provide more medical services for transgender individuals.
She has an open petition to the whitehouse requesting that her sentence be commuted to 'time served', so that she may be released from prison. She isn't currently requesting a pardon, just a release from prison after having served 6 years, including in abusive conditions including but not limited to solitary confinement.
You can read more about the history of her case here: https://www.chelseamanning.org/learn-more/bradley-manning
Here is a summary of Chelsea's argument, taken as excerpts from her statement:
"I take full and complete responsibility for my decision to disclose these materials to the public."
"I pleaded guilty without the protection of a plea agreement because I believed the military justice system would understand my motivation for the disclosure and sentence me fairly. I was wrong: The military judge sentenced me to thirty-five years confinement — far more than I could have ever imagined possible, as there was no historical precedent for such an extreme sentence under similar facts…"
"I have since been placed in solitary confinement as a disciplinary measure for an attempted suicide despite a growing effort — led by the President of the United States — to stop the use of solitary confinement for any purpose."
"I have served a sufficiently long sentence. I am not asking for a pardon of my conviction. I understand that the various collateral consequences of the court-martial conviction will stay on my record forever. The sole relief am asking for is to be released from military prison after serving six years of confinement as a person who did not intend to harm the interests of the United States or harm any service members."
"I am merely asking for a first chance to live my life outside the USDB as the person I was born to be."
Here is Chelsea's statement requesting that her sentence be commuted:
