I force it to not update and use the same versions for years until something breaks and it needs to be updated because I hate when they constantly change thing and make it worse. Almost all software is like this.

As for how to fix it, I don't know, but there is probably no way to do it with a setting that they provide. You probably need to look up how to edit a .css file somewhere. I think you can use those files to control the layout of almost everything, but it is confusing and you need to know how, or find someone online that already figured it out and posted about it.

Edit: I was thinking of how I modified Firefox and I was thinking Chrome could be modified the same way because it is called userChrome.css, but that might not have anything to do with the Chrome browser, so I don't know if Chrome can be modified in a similar way.

They must have devs from the school of "if it ain't broken, fix it, quick, and double it while you're there!"

Switch to Firefox if you can. It's just about the only non-Chromium based browser left.

Everything has changed when the Fire Nation acquired Opera in 2016.

I personally use Firefox on PC but man their Android App sucks. Wish they add the open in group feature in chrome and just make the bookmark stick to the previous folder instead of heading to root folder every damn time.

Atleast it supports add-ons, one cant live without. But i suppose yes it would be a pain to manage many bookmarks for users like yourself.

Have you seen the android version of Chrome and Opera? They're super awkward, by comparison Firefox is the nicest thing out there.

Android Chrome is fine. Group is so much better than tabs on mobile. Switching groups feels like switching tabs on PC. The only problem of Android Chrome is the lack of extension support.

Shoutout to Librewolf, a Firefox fork focused on privacy and security. It also removes some of the bloat like Pocket.

Unfortunately for OP this is not viable.

Firefox is really great, and it's the only browser I've been using since version 3 in 2008. I also use a custom userChrome.css to change the UI, eg. have address bar above the tabs, a scroll bar in the bookmarks list, etc. (mainly because Mozilla removed many customisation extensions in the past). This is actually a plus for FF because of the potential for customisation.

However, almost every update makes my blood boil. The devs are malicious trolls, don't care at all about what the community wants, and feel like they need to change something about the UI every other week. Add a border here, make this toolbar have more useless whitespace, remove the scrollbar from this window, make this part look more like Chrome. All of these changes break my userChrome.css and I need to spend hours learning what the fuck they changed, because obviously it's not in the patch notes, and how to revert it. Seeing the update notification pop up makes me scream.

If OP gets annoyed at such a minor change in Chrome he'd get an aneurysm when using Firefox.

They've been doing these minor adjustments to the interface for so long that I've gotten used to them, at this point I find it to be one of its defining quirks, it also only takes like an hour for me to learn my way around whatever they've changed after an update. But yeah, as a consequence I've completely given up on doing any major personalization to the UI because why bother when it's gonna break in a couple of months.

I just disable updates and run the same version for years until something I need stops working and I can't fix it. Both browsers make it hard to do though, especially Chrome. Many people probably don't want to do it because of security reasons, which I understand, but I would prefer to not always be frustrated with software companies constantly making their products worse with every update.

Firefox is fairly easy, you just need to edit a registry key. It's in the following location. You may need to create the last couple folders (keys).

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Mozilla\Firefox

Then in "Firefox", create a new 32-Bit DWORD and name it:
DisableAppUpdate
Then set it to 1

Been a Firefox user since early 2000s. Never considered moving to a Chromium-based browser. I'll probably die using it too.

I liked Chrome, few Days ago something seems to be crashed and Chrome is not Working anymore. I tried everything, Deinstalled and Installed New and much more. Nothing. Chrome was for me the Best from all Browser i tried. Now i use Firefox and have many Problems, with many Sites, that some stuff not showing or Loading and also it slows my PC down, very much, sometimes hanging. With Chrome was it way better. :D

Hope to get someday some Work so i can buy new Harddrives and some other things like more RAM, best would be whole new PC or Laptop, but well, cost alot. ^^

Anyway, most of the Updates from stuff, Programs and all, getting worser and worser. Back in the Past the most stuff Worked and then after Update, nothing working anymore.

Its very sad that they all ruin a already running System. Always that, higher, faster and such things.
And most wants you to Update or else, some things are not working, cant use it cause not Supported. If they fix something, close a hole, then there comes 10 New holes. Its a shame.

I'm sorry that you have many problems with Firefox.
Can you take your time to report those problems here? https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/home
This would greatly help other users.
Firefox does not collect much data, so maybe its developers do not aware about the problems.
Thank you!

take a look here:

https://support.google.com/chrome/community

(not checking since very long, but folks there are usually helpful and ready to help... and if you're lucky you'd also get in touch with a googler. also, do check if it's available in your own language)

I may be wrong, but I think that many of these changes "for the worse" are due to wanting to make things more touch-screen friendly for portable devices. If you have to tap on something with your finger, then things need to be further apart from one another to make it easier to do.
I'm not sure why they cant detect if you are using a touch-screen device and only use the wider-apart view when appropriate.

Just tried FireFox again (didn't use it for years) and it's working very well. With all the 'interesting' changes to Chrome lately I think I'll stick with it for now.

I know I'm kinda late to the party but maybe setting this to disabled will solve your problem (for now):
