I don't support piracy in any way but they're basically asking for it lol.

Edit: So people report that in various countries (US, Poland etc.) games like Far Cry 4, The Crew etc. also disappeared from the Steam store. No more Ubi games worldwide on Steam? Ubi is a joke. They will lose more money than they can imagine because of that.

Edit 2: Seems it was a mistake and new Ubi games will be available on Steam for everyone except for folks in the UK.

Edit 3: New Ubi games are back in Steam Store for everyone except people living in the UK. Well, I'm sorry folks.

Even if you bought them on Steam you still would have to run them through UPlay. So why not buy them on UPlay directly?

That's just an excuse to silence your conscience lol.

Because uPlay is a useless piece of shit, which has never worked fine for me.

Even if you buy a new game from Ubi from Steam you still have to have UPlay installed and running to play the game.

So in reality there's no difference.

Anyone else saw this coming? On one hand they had some good games. On the other, trying to compete with Steam on the PC is just not going to end well unless you have a decent set up like Desura or Humble.

Desura decent? People actually buy stuff there? I think it's the worst client ever. And UPlay keys at least had very good discounts.

lol, my guess is Ubi wanted them pulled from the UK, so Gaben said FUCK YOU PULL THEM FROM EVERYWHERE

Those who already pre-ordered it, I'm sure it will be honored by Valve since it just gives you a Uplay key upon launch anyway, but I like Valve playing hardball like this.

Doesn't everyone just realize that they're doing the same thing EA did?

Comment has been collapsed.

Sure, but Ubisoft is in a much different position. EA is one of the largest game publishers in the world. Ubisoft are not even in the top 10. Ubisoft obviously want to be bigger, but even Activision hasn't started their own service.

Oh what a loss. Wouldn't buy ubisoft game for more than 5 euros anyway and it takes forever until price drops so much. Thanks ubi for not accepting my money. Aaargh!

Btw just look at ubi's official forums. They're overrun with bot spam messages. Those idiots can't even keep the forums clean.

It's probably better this way. I found it stupid that they forced you to sign up with their platform after purchase to play anyway, especially when that platform tends to impede people from playing what they purchased.

Comment has been collapsed.

So what happens to those that already bought them on steam?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Unknown right now.

Its a good bet one of two things happen:

  • They refund all pre-orders.
  • Those who pre-ordered will still get to play the game fine via Steam. Obviously you'll still need uPlay.

It could also be the case that Valve is just playing hardball with Ubi to see if they'll budge. It seems like Ubi wanting them pulled from the UK is the reason is this is occurring, so Valve may be negotiating to get it back on Steam and this is a tactic in that negotiation (by pulling it outright).

They could just give them the uPlay key that they would have gotten, no Steam involved.

I suspect they'll just refund it unless they work something out soon.

Yea, I guess thats a possibility, but if this is contentious I dont think they'll want to be uPlay's middle man in this respect.

Good point. Anyone here who has pre-ordered any of their upcoming games who can let us known anything when Valve address the issue?

Permalink

One thing I'm curious about is how will those with the Steam version be affected if they have things like the Season Pass. If Ubi's not releasing things on Steam anymore, that will be a fine line.

I have to think unless they work something out, refunds are a-coming.

They will proably make you merge your Steam and uplay accounts. Then you'll have the game in your uplay account and ( probably ) no longer availiable on Steam.

Just another day at Ubisoft towers. Shower of clowns. I'm not really going to miss reskinned AC or bad driving games. I might miss future releases along the lines of Blood Dragon and Valiant Hearts and stuff like that, but fuck em. And by the UK, I have a sneaking suspicion they actually mean UK & Ireland.

If you look around you can get one of those Nvidia promo keys (Pick Your Path) fairly cheaply. I got one for about $25 earlier today, but that is a low end price. uPlay version of FC4 for less than 50%, yea I like that.

I'll just wait until it's heavily discounted. I still haven't played the 3rd one (even though I have it already). I just prefer having all games in one place and Steam was perfect for it :)

In my experiences through Far Cry 3, Far Cry Blood Dragon, Watch Dogs, Uplay has not exactly... impressed me. That said, there were a couple of games I was looking forward to (cough Far Cry 4, The Division and Rainbow Six*), but now I might not get them. Can't really say I'm too surprised though, EA did something similar with Origin, pulling stuff and then releasing then-new exclusives like Battlefield 3 and then nothing new on Steam. If the games are popular enough, the publisher will do it anyway - they'll get sales whether or not a game is on Steam. I did not buy Battlefield 3 or 4 because they weren't on Steam, for example, and I know other people who did the same... but a lot of people bought them anyway.

I like Origin more than Uplay, but I personally dont care about what service a game is on.

I got the uPlay only versions of Blacklist, FC3, Black Flag, Watch Dogs, and now FC4 all for much cheaper than they cost on Steam, all on pre-release.

Origin is not that bad though. I agree that I like having all of my games in one place and would prefer to use only Steam, but I can just as easily use the "Add a non-Steam Game" to the library function and basically treat it like a Steam game that way. Having another program open doesn't bother me.

Ubisoft can go suck a dick, to be honest. It used to be a solid company, but now it's a bunch of overconfident ignorants who focus more on the hype rather than making a good game.

well, they still make/publish lots of good games. far cry 3 was amazing, might & magic X was great, and there are lots more. but i guess you don't really care about that, and you prefer to just hate them, no matter what, right? ;)

Comment has been collapsed.

Their only good games were recently were Rayman Legends (not a flagship game) and Far Cry 3 and I wouldn't even call it amazing. The Mass Effect trilogy was amazing, Little Big Adventure 2 was amazing, Mafia was amazing, The Witcher was amazing...

I prefer to "just hate them", because they're bringing it on themselves with their dumb actions and statements - mostly on the topic of microtransactions. And that applies to everyone else who's being a dick. Besides, the OP says it was a mistake, so this discussion is now pointless.

A list of games that were actually amazing. If you have trouble understanding the text and you're thinking that one studio could even come up with top-notch and completely different games throughout the gaming history, you probably wandered out of the mentally insane wing.

You can hold hands and stay stupid together, for all I care. But don't tell anyone to "learn to read and write" after you repeatedly showed you can't do either.

While I admit the first post didn't state explicitly that they're not Ubisoft games, the second one made it clear enough. In the third post, I pointed out that I had pointed it out in the previous post. But since you just proved your mental capacity really is insufficient, I now have to point out the fact that I pointed out a point-out.
