So the 'good' news

'True' X-Com sequel is in the works

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2012/01/05/february-cover-revealed-xcom-enemy-unknown.aspx

The 'bad'

Is that it's by Firaxis and given Civ5 this might be good or bad depending on your view

The 'ugly'

It's coming out for consoles!?!?!? No offense but how that is going to work is questionable to me. I'm not some kind of PC snob or whatever, but somethings don't work on consoles (RTS games, Civ5, etc) so how something as complicated as x-com would work on a console remains to be seen.

The X-COM complete pack is also featured as a Daily today on Steam to coincide with the announcement. Are any of the sequels as good as UFO Defense?

When I read this earlier I had to stop myself from dancing.

A couple of years back when I heard that 2k had acquired the rights to X-COM I was betting that it would be Firaxis developing a new title. On the other hand when I heard about 2k Marin and the travesty they were making ...

I'm OK with Firaxis making it, it is right up their alley. Besides they are the only company of 2k suitable for this. Now lets hope the console part is a miscomunication.

Regrettably the console part is officially confirmed. Which dampers my enthusiasm.

But you're right that Firaxis is probably the best developer for the job. Whether they can pull it off is something entirely different. I get how Civ Revolutions was done since it was designed for the consoles and a 10ft interface. I'm not sure if I really want 'xcom-lite' or not.

Civ 5 was pretty good if plagued by problems, which to be honest were probably caused by the publisher 2K Games (them again) forcing it out the door early.

Colour me hopeful and pleasantly surprised after the crap that is the "reboot". COme to think of it, how is a proper remake of the proper game gonna mesh with their "X-Com in name only" FPS?
