Not much will change. You'll see. People who were interested in cards got the beta already. Others just don't (and won't) care.

And those who don't (and won't) care will just farm cards to sell them, lowering the prices cent by cent. I'm curious how low they'll get.

I meant that some people are not interested in even getting them and selling them. I talked with my friends who didn't have beta and those who did have it and they gave me their cards for free even though I told them they could sell them for money. And those who didn't have beta are not interested in those cards. Not even in selling them.
Who wants it already has beta. Other, most of them anyway, won't care at all.

This is what I was thinking too. I sold a foil card for 25$ today, hopefully the prices won't rise tommorrow and I'll feel good about it. Otherwise I'll be somewhat sad. I kinda wanted to sell it before a new wave of cards hit the market, creating more competition.

What difference does it make for you? You made the profit. That's all that matters. Right?
Comment has been collapsed.
Exactly. Sure, you made $35, but you also lost 25 potential dollars.

Or he lost 100$. Or he gained actually 20$. You don't know any of that.

That post was obviously a hypothetical. In the case where the price rises an additional $25, he has lost that potential earning. I think it was pretty obvious I wasn't saying he actually lost that money, and it was very clear I was speaking in the hypothetical he created.

Some people use this as a way to transfer Steam Wallet for trading purpose. Sell an item for a ridiculous price then trade the game to the buyer.

The prices gonna go up dramatically and then dramatically down, even lower abit than now.

Well TF2 cardz sure will drop to insanity if the only thing you need for 5 drops or whatever it is, is a premium account... Jesus so many cards!! Help me Jesus I can't hold all these cards in my inventory! I'd never craft a TF2 badge anyway, I like my Faerie Solitaire one though, and the background is smexy :3

you need to have bought the game before it was free or spend roughly $9/card in the store, I didnt play until it was free, I only made 1 purchase in the store to upgrade acct so I dont get cards.
I see cards becoming like tf2 metal, before tf2 key = 2-3 ref now 5-6 as more and more people craft from unwanted drops
Comment has been collapsed.
Nope, you don't. I play the game after it was free and I still get the card. I do have premium though. Can't remember if I get premium before or after card was enabled.

+1
Everyone says you need to have bought the game or spend lots in the store, but I got TF2 when it was F2P, and I've spent max $0.50 on the store, mostly just to get premium, yet I still got all my card drops.
The $9 is only to gain MORE card drops.

My guess: Prices will rapidly rise as new users join and then quickly drop again once those new users start getting their own drops. They will then stabilize right around where they are now, maybe a hair lower but nothing worse crying over. Foils and boosters will be more valuable, assuming nothing happens to change the drop rate of them or booster packs.

I predict the prices of cards will spike up initially (first day) due to people wanting to get badges for levels, then afterwards, prices will just plummet as everyone will have farmed their cards. I guess then it'd be a good time to buy backgrounds or emoticons.

I don't think so. Everyone who would have wanted to get badges and level, would have gotten an invite for the Beta too, this isn't such a problem. Everybody who will get the Trading Cards and stuff now are people who would probably sell 'em.

Everyone who wanted to be on the Trading Card beta will already be on it, sure, but there's going to be a portion of people who aren't clued in as we are and don't follow the latest news and whatnot.
Since it's going to be rolled out to everyone, there's bound to be a fair percentage that will see the new profile page with levels for the first time, wonder what it's about, read up on it and proceed to gain levels by completing badges from purchasing cards. They've given people an incentive to raise their level too with the introduction of booster packs, the higher the level, the higher chance that they'll drop for you.
It's basically the large influx of people who weren't aware of the Trading Card beta that will cause the spike in market prices. Similarly, once the madrush to buy has settled down (which shouldn't be very long) and everyone starts selling their cards, the prices will drop even lower than they are now as the market is oversaturated.
That's be belief anyway.

There will always be more indie titles represented. The dev teams for the majority of the bigger titles have already moved on.

There are already 36 participating games. Plus whatever they add tomorrow will push it up over 40. Seems like more than enough to bring it out of beta. Also, niche indie titles are the ones that will benefit the most from the whole card system. AAA titles and major publishers don't need any help when it comes to drawing attention to themselves so why should they bother with cards?

By that logic, triple-A titles and major publishers wouldn't add novelties like achievements to their games... yet almost all of them do nowadays. Little things like this absolutely hook people, give people an excuse to play/replay their games (leads to DLC sales, generating interest in future titles, etc) and if nothing else... garner a few bonus sales from people who want nothing to do with a game but collect it's cards. Especially if they did it now, where all eyes in the Trading Card community will be on their game for a bit since so few big-name games are there at the moment.
It's what every company wants, perhaps a tad exaggerated, for a minimal amount of work.
Protip: Big companies may have a lot of money, but they also need more money to exist. Every little bit helps.

It's certainly generated interest in some indie titles that many people have, until now, overlooked. It's driven sales for these games, and caused those who purchased them to go back in order to snag the free cards.
Of course, people may just have idled for the drops, but I'm sure there are those who played them, or who will return to them on some future rainy day and get their money's worth.
Although Borderlands 2 was a featured game, I think the cards will be more popular with Indie developers, whose products don't have the same sort of marketing budgets as so-called "AAA" titles. This is a nice inexpensive way to get some exposure and shift some units to people who may not otherwise have even considered buying if it wasn't for the trading cards.

Trading card beta ends tomorrow... Im curious to see what happens to the steam economy (trading and market) when it goes live. Well more like a week after it goes live and everyone farms all the cards they can.
