Curious to find out how people decide what level to make a giveaway. I'm currently at level two I have been making giveaways mostly at level 1, but some at 2 but then I think all the people at 2 or higher might already have the games and wouldn't be interested in them anyways. Basically my mind goes crazy and I over analyze it :) I'm a little nerdish like that :P
Sooo I thought I'd just throw this out there to see how other people determine levels to put them out. Or if there's already a deep thread about this point me to it?

Thanks for the input!

I like to know it's going to people that have given to the community, so normally i go 1 or 2

Level 0 for me.
I can see a valid reasoning behind level 1 and 2 though. Over thatโ€ฆ not really much.

But in my case the public ones are just low-rated games I don't care about, the group giveaways are in a fashion where I accepted that they always are level 0 anyway. Not that I mind.
Sure, in average I have to chase around 1 winner in ever 10, even had to reroll and ask for support to mark as received, but in general I don't have any negative experience that would justify a level limit.

Level 0: Sadly no since most do not know site rules and etc.
Level 1: Lower Tier bundle games even if winner only gifted 1 free game
Level 2: Highest Tier bundle games and cheap non bundles
Level 3-7: Non Bundled games leveling as price increases
Level 8-10: Non Bundled Steam Subs, same as above

I do not do group, private, invited, puzzle, whitelist, one level GAs.

Aim is to give to the those who know how the site works as much as they contributed to the site with least restrictions other than their effort.

I checked some people who joined my lv0 GA :

Gifts Won
27 ($253.73)
Gifts Sent
0 ($0.00)

Gifts Won
26 ($205.74)
Gifts Sent
0 ($0.00)

Gifts Won
9 ($94.91)
Gifts Sent
0 ($0.00)

Gifts Won
59 ($540.41)
Gifts Sent
1 ($2.99)

They didn't even try to give games. Now, I'll make my GAs lv2/3.

Cost of game + amount of fun + my own level = level I choose for game.

Was the game expensive?
Yes - Make a higher level requirement

Often I can't solve it and just create a private, group or whitelist GA instead

Level 4 for random invite-only giveaways
Level 5 for public giveaways of most games
Level 0 for whitelist, group or puzzle giveaways (which technically use a group too, only a temporary one)
Level 0 for public giveaways of bundled games with 70% or less recommended review and $4 or less price

Necroing "how do you" threads is fun :-)

My own level.
Depends on group requirements/how fun group is :D
Level 1 for some whitelist/groups
sometimes nothing at all if bundle leftover, invite, whitelist

I basically look at what I think is fair in regards to:

  • Avoiding leechers
  • How much I believe a game is worth as a reward for people who contributed
  • What level I have myself since I wouldn't be fair to put higher level than i have myself.
  • My mood at the time
  • The position of the moon, the sun and various constellations as well as the current exchange rate between the yen, the euro, the pound and the dollar but only inso far as the ratio between crooked banana's and straight banana's have been taken into account after removing the outliers and extrapolating a proper schedule for feeding the poor person who is still reading this sentence.

really random for me thusfar whitelist , group , puzzle giveaways tend to be level 0 /chatroom giveaways level 2 [wich probably most if not all in the chat are. Public giveaways ranging from level 0 to my level. why level 0? cause its fun to welcome new people on steamgifts old example and to members who are level 0 still after 1-4 years well i just say karma ....;p

I usually put most of my public giveaways on level 2, 3 or 4 so more users have a chance at them. I have had minimal support tickets from these giveaways and had only two bad boys with major infractions.

One can make ones giveaway in such a manner that it's more or less available to SG users, according to what the gifter wants.

But you can have a 1000 answers here the most important thing about giveaway levels is what you feel comfortable with and what you still feel comfortable with until the ending of the giveaway.

Publics 5+ to reward Contributors and also to avoid most of the rulebreakers (thou these can appear at any level, just higher level lesser chance).
Puzzles I usually set at lvl 1 - if someone manage to solve it and gave away anything it's fine with me.
Group and Whitelist GAs without lvl limit (excluding public groups - then level may vary).
