At the end of the year I scrolled through my review list and was quite surprised to see, how many wonderful games I played this year. Despite being limited in my time, there were still more games, than I expected. And I decided to make a personal top 5 list of the games I played this year:

  1. Rise of the Tomb Raider
  2. Mutant Year Zero
  3. Wandersong
  4. Cat Quest
  5. Silence

This list also proofs, that I tend to play other games and hardly ever get a game right when it comes out (MYZ was the absolute exception, which I played beginning of 2019 right when it came out).

Other games I had a lot of fun with and should be honorable mentions are the following titles (ordered by alphabet): Broforce, Eternal Senia, Hard West, Her Story, Maize, Open Sorcery, Rime, State of Mind, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Thomas was alone and Tomb Raider.

There were also two big disappointments: Shadow of War was a very tedious grinding experience which ruined the title for me. And Sherlock Holmes - The Devils Daugher in the end just had too many flaws.

So now the question of course stands: Which were your Top 5 of 2019? Which were your biggest disappointments?

Also: Of course there is a GA and what would be better suited than my best gaming experience of the last year? So answer a (really easy) question to gain access to the GA by clicking here!

My top 5 from the games I've finished at least this 2019 is:

  1. Bioshock Infinite (Probably the most unforgettable one for me. Personally part of my top games all of time)
  2. Resident Evil 2 (Overall solid game but the standout was the shooting, environment, and graphics.)
  3. Celeste (A platformer with life lessons thrown in? Count me in.)
  4. Apex Legends (For those heart-pounding moments when you're one of the last few groups)
  5. Halo Reach (Currently playing through it right now but loving it so far. Also it's Halo on PC.)

Halo Reach is one of two reasons why I decided to try out Gamepass while it's cheap. I hope I get to play it until my subscription ends in March, but first I want to play Outer Worlds.

Reach is pretty short tbh. I'm pretty sure you'll be able to make time for it!

This thread is not about games that came out 2019 but our personal gaming highlights this year. Just look at my original post, I don't think any of the games mentioned there came out 2019 since I rarely ever buy a game at release and rather wait until its cheaper and has all the DLCs.

oh there's really game breaking bugs? Lucius 2 disappointed me enough without dealing with those bugs soon. Just got to hope they are fixed by the time I play very soon

  1. Red Dead Redemption 2 (I just started it and definitely won't finish it in 2019, but I waited so long for this, since I never had a console and missed pert 1)
  2. Divinity: Original Sin
  3. A Way Out
  4. Goodbye Deponia
  5. Assassin's Creed Unity

Disappointment:
Receiver...deinstalled it quiet after getting frustrated pretty quick :D

  1. Resident Evil 2 Remake Demo
  2. Apex Legends
  3. Apex Legends
  4. Armed Heist
  5. Fallout 76
These are the only 2019 games i played, the top two are free to play and F76 has had two free to play weekends, thats how i played, i didnt play the second one, and the only good part about it was the battle royale mode, heh. Havent played AL because it gets so old and repetetive, its the same shit over and over again, doesnt matter how well it plays, if theres little to variety and break away, it gets realy boring realy old realy samey realy fast. And armed heist i deleted recently because, apart from the same problems i mentioned with AL, the game pushes you maddeningly towards paywall artifical difficulty spike jumping jacking microtransaction schemes. You cannot advance into new regions because of specific weapon, armor and level requirement, you get those weapons via traditional loot boxes so the rng is going to screw you over bad, esspcialy with how stingy with epic rarity guns the game is. The difficulty ramps up incredibly fast, you will be a level 6 vs level 14-19 enemies, hard missions will become impossible and medium missions will become nigh impossible, esspecialy skull missions, there are no easy ones after teh tutorial. One of the worst mobile games out there and the way about getting your money is crazy bad. P.S. sorry, F76 came out last year, my bad, but, whatever, its still in early access pre alpha stages and i dont have anything else to put in the other slots.

Oh top 5 huh would have to be of what I played this year

The Higurashi Series
Lost in Harmony
Adam Wolfe
Bioshock Series (except infinite)
Corpse Party Series

I did consider swapping Lost in Harmony for a different game but that was an amazing win that it deserves the spot. Honorable mention though (for what I would've swapped it for) Remember me.

Games played in 2019 and would put in the top list:

  1. Oxygen not included (full release this, year, was in a pretty good EA for years)
  2. Undermine (not full Released, but in better stage as EA than many fully released game)
  3. Strategic Command World War I
  4. Islanders
  5. Statisfactory (One more EA game, that is better than most full release)

Top 5 not in order:

  • Half Life serie (finally I managed to finish this gold, and damn, GabeN, give us Half Life 3!)
  • Journey (on Epic, but well, I have no PS and that is the only way right now, still gorgeous game)
  • The Witness (still unfinished, but amazing. and confusing, this game shows me that I am an idiot)
  • Wreckfest - really enjoy it, especially that FlatOut serie was my beloved when I was a kid
  • Slay the Spire - biggest surprise especially because I was never into deck-building ot any card games, I fell in love with this game

Honorable mentions:
The Witcher 3 - second time I play it and it is still as good as I remember when I played it first time.
Grand Theft Auto V - I do not remember a thing from the story, but gameplay is really enjoyable
The Room serie - surprisingly entertaining and relaxing game. I hope they will make PC ports of other 'Rooms' soon :D

I'm a very casual and picky gamer, so 5 is the maximum games I can pick out anyways. I enjoyed these games thoroughly and I didn't even finish all of them, but I think they're all amazing. I'm also really bad with tracking time, so I can't guarantee some of them weren't started in, say, the second half of 2018, but I definitely played them in 2019.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Mutant Year Zero

Top five games

1) Rakuen - Beautiful. One of my favourite games, evoking the spirit of To the Moon by dealing with weighty topics in a whimsical manner. Wonderful soundtrack and great design.

2) Finding Paradise - This had a lot to live up to โ€“ To the Moon and A Bird Story are among my favourite games โ€“ but once again Kan Gao delivered. Touching, funny, surprising and engrossing.

3) Monster Prom - A pleasant surprise. Frequently funny, broken up into very accessible small chunks and with a surprising amount of content.

4) Witcher 3 GoTY - I'm not as huge a fan of this as many people seem to be, but it was a lot more enjoyable than the previous two of the series and it certainly had more interesting writing than most RPGs I've played lately.

5) Yakuza 0 - My first game in the Yakuza series, and a quite enjoyable experience.

Disappointments

1) The Outer Worlds - Shallow combat, forgettable writing and an absence of interesting choices.

2) Warhammer: Space Wolf - I love CCGs and turn-based combat, but this had horrendous design choices which detracted from both aspects.

3) State of Decay 2 - Felt like a shallow MMO, with dull and generic gameplay.

Finding Paradise is one of the very, very few games that really made me cry. Such an masterpiece. I just stumbled over the announcement of the next game of them the other day (Impostor Factory / https://store.steampowered.com/app/1182620/Impostor_Factory/) and this may very well be one of the few games I'll buy right at it's release.

Hollow Knight - Best game I played 2019. Can't wait for the next one!

Archeage Unchained - Favorite game right now. I played the original and left due to many issues. Was excited to see they relaunched as a pay to play title with no pay to win! :)

MTG Arena - I try to play daily. Best card game on the market right now.

Dauntless - Awesome monster hunting game that's free 2 play. It's like an arcade style monster hunting game(small hub, queue, directly to the monster to fight).

Darkest Dungeon - I've owned it for awhile and finally got to play it this year. Simply an awesome game.

If people are looking for a clicker/formation management game I recommend this and Idle Champions.

League of Angels: Paradise Land (Android) - a well done hero collection games, that's so well streamlined that I found it harder than usual to stop playing even when it grew a little stale.

Very Star (Oculus Go) - Used it as my daily workout for a while.

Kind Words - What an amazing idea.
