What do you think of Humble Games?
Personally, I don't give much thought to who's publishing a game, for the most part; if it's a publisher that's consistently doing really sleazy things, I'll wait longer for a bigger discount, because I want to give them as little money as possible, even if sales are on their own terms. That said, I think focusing on who published a game is misplacing attention, because it's the developers who do the actual work; publishers just back them financially, and sometimes ruin the original vision with corporate meddling, etc. A publisher could theoretically put out a ton of games both good and bad, and that wouldn't have much of anything to do with them if they're developed by different studios. Hades is a good example; I haven't played it, but I have no doubt it's an excellent game, not because of IGN or Humble or any of that, but because it was developed by SuperGiant, and everything of theirs I've played has been an unconventional masterwork of game design, not to mention that I'm pretty sure their earlier games were published by WB. If you want to get even deeper into it, we can talk about individuals that worked on a game, and Legend of Mana for the Playstation is a great example of that; it's a Mana/Seiken Densetsu game, but the artstyle and general design has a lot more in common with SaGa Frontier than anything in its own series, and when you check the credits, sure enough: same artist as SaGa Frontier, and Akitoshi Kawazu hiding in the bushes.
If we're talking about Humble as a storefront, though, I think there's a lot of good to be said for it. Whether or not they're any good, the monthly package is a pretty good deal in terms of price, and they're one of the very few digital storefront that offers DRM-free options, even if only on certain titles. A lot of the time, if what you're buying is on multiple platforms, you'll get all of those copies, which is also a pretty good deal; if you and a friend want to get into, say, The Norwood Suite, you can pay $10 and both of you can play, one on Steam and the other on whatever, 100% legally. If, for whatever reason, you really like Origin, or UPlay or whatever, you can get games for that, and even stuff for the Switch; lots of variety. The Humble Trove is cool, too; I checked that out when they were offering it free for a limited time, and while you've got a lot to sift through, I found some interesting games I otherwise wouldn't have given a second glance. They also donate to charity, which is usually a good thing, too. It might not be my favorite storefront, but it does a lot of neat things that no others do, at least not that I'm aware of.

"if it's a publisher that's consistently doing really sleazy things, I'll wait longer for a bigger discount, because I want to give them as little money as possible"
Makes me think of the people who published Axiom Verge, as well as publisher Nicalis. Never forgive them for screwing over THE dev who made the legendary Cave Story.
Also you make a lot of good points throughout your post. I guess for me mainly when it comes to publishers, I usually notice ones that like. Have a habit of publishing an excellent array of games. But honestly I should probably study and learn more about what publishers actually do. It is a bit wrong of me to put undeserved focus on a publisher than the highly skilled dev(s) behind a game.

Nicalis has committed some absolute CRIMES in their day; pretty sure they screwed over the team that made Creepy Castle, too, which, despite its generic name, is easily the best game I've played this year so far; firing on all cylinders, that one. You also have to remember that I started playing in '87, and in that time and place, nobody really cared who was making what; they were all just "Nintendo games". Back when games were just games, and publisher and developer were usually one and the same. Could be that I was just forged in that attitude. People do sometimes pay attention to the individual - Kojima's a good example - but more often than not, people give credit to the publisher. People even give credit to different publishers sometimes, like when people give Squenix credit for an old Final Fantasy game, despite the fact that it was made before that was even a thing.

Disagree on both parts. Their bundles are very related, as games released by them will be much more likely to be featured in Choice and other bundles, so if you're a Choice subscriber you should never buy a Humble Games game by itself. And a developer absolutely has importance in finding interesting devs, good promotion, et cetera. Devolver Digital is a publisher, yet people follow them and are curious about them

Ikenfell has crazy good music (so does cyber shadow, but my aging body and mind just cant keep up with the demands of that game). humble does publish some good stuff, and even if the occupation wasn't executed to its potential, it was worth them investing in the idea because nobody else is really doing that premise in their games. i have definitely steered clear of things on the humble store since they secretly guinea pigged some of their customers into not being allowed to donate what they want to charity, and their roll back didn't really go far enough imo.
i think they have a future as a publisher tho

The biggest, most important title they released is easily Slay the Spire though. For some reason Steam classifies it as self-released, but Wikipedia and Humble Games' main page says it's theirs. Fantastic game, I'm a fanboy. I did play some of their other titles (Carto, Popup Dungeon, Aegis Defenders, Wizard of Legend) but they were meh. Gotta grab Void Bastards though, it was nice from the 1hr I spent on it on gamepass. Also Prodeus and Fae Tactics look nice. Ikenfell too, but not for me - I hate JRPGs :<

Yeah, i noticed. Not all of them interests me, but a couple of them are in my radar. It's nice to see them noticing a lot of great games to publish.

Carto was really great, I highly recommend it.
A Hat In Time? I liked it, but it was over-rated. Plus buying DLC to "complete" the game? No thanks.
Them's Fightin Herds? Released too early, haven't touched it since, but it was super-punishing.
Haven't played any other games. Yet. The Wild at Heart, Wilffire, Ikenfell, and Fae Tactics are in my queue though.
As others have said though, don't care about Humble as a publisher. As long as they do good for their devs, they might be ok.

Loved Void Bastards. Looking forward to playing Prodeus,Crying Suns,Wildfire. Somewhat curious about Project Wingman. As far as their other games that aren't up my alley go,they still look pretty polished and varied so can't say I think their curation is bad. There are tons of worse publishers out there, both in terms of business practices and their catalogue.

Project Wingman is well known in it's niche and I wouldn't call it original. Basically a carbon copy of Ace Combat series which was kinda copied earlier too - anyone remember Tom Clancy's HAWX games? It doesn't mean that it isn't good. Just my two cents about this particular title.

There are problems with the support so that they solved a card blocking error on their part because the bank detected it as fradulent and canceled the purchase, since then they have not let me buy bundles, I spent about 6 months claiming in the support, it basically works as The teleoperators, someone answers you and passes you to another person and wait for another email, then this tells you that it is already solved and it is not real, on top of that they played the monthly classic and they put it normal, at the end I passed the support and believed me A new account, using PayPal and linked to the bank account, the card still does not work on said website, sad to see how the support is regrettable

I think they are reffering to the humble site, not humble as publisher, which is not what you were talking about.

The monthly ones lately put early access, or games that have dlc, for you to spend, it really is not a good bundle, I usually discard these games, as for the normal bundles, it shows that there is an average cheating.
Not to mention putting games from different platforms within the same bundle before giving you the option to choose the platform

Another problem is if you want to give away something from the normal store, it does not let you buy more than one copy, it is something stupid that is not a bundle, you are not going to traffic with it.

As for monthly promotions, one feels cheated, you are a regular customer paying 12 usd and suddenly they put bundles at 6 usd several months to new users, or 1 year at a miserable cost, it should cost the same to everyone 12 usd as before, and if they have any promotion that goes into the whole world.

I personally like One Step From Eden due to my love toward Mega man Battle network series to the point I purchase it on release and finish it later. It's Fast paced version of the mentioned game and I totally enjoy it.
When I see it on the Choices, I kinda predict it and well, I still purchase those choices and gifted the key for my best friend.

Since you were talking about it... how difficult is it? I found that there is an angel mode to make it easier, but does it work with the hell mode?
I have been meaning to play it recently but i'm not sure if i am ready for the difficulty, hahah.

At first, it's hella hectic and stuff and extremely frustrating. But when you get the ice character as well as start getting used to pattern develop muscle memory, it's getting easier to the point you want to unlock every character and finish the game with em.

i kinda hate that i must develop muscle memory to play it, hahah. how about the angel mode? does it work with the hell mode too?

from my experiences, it doesn't work. but I'm not sure with the latest patch As I only play the early version til v1.2

This is such a weird thing to bring up, but it's come to my attention recently that Humble Games. Something I initially rolled my eyes over due to all the crap they were pulling at the time with humble bundle choice, the whole IGN takeover, and capitalizing a website that was initially pretty 'non-profit' (it focused more on giving money to devs and charity.)
For me personally I just really don't respect IGN or really anything they do. They're not who I pay any attention to, to when I want info about games. I tend to just pay attention exclusively to the indie scene these days because they're the only ones who seem to be making 'The Real Shit™'
Not to say blockbuster hits like Red Dead 2, The Witcher 3, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, etc. Aren't really incredibly good. It's just that most big name game studios today tend to give more disappointment and garbage than actual genuine content that will hold a great place in the hearts of many.
So then on the flip side we start getting content like Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, Hollow Knight, Valheim, Stardew Valley, Dead Cells, HADES.
Just like, absolute baller stuff.
So over the past months Little ol' Humble Bundle has been throwing some of their games into their soup, Humble Bundle Monthly, and packaged that stuff all up and has been giving it out to their subscribers.
At first I thought it was just them peddling their own old cans of soup from their cupboard because they couldn't find anyone else to be willing to throw a treat into the pot.
But over time as i've been giving some of these games a whirl, i've been coming to realize a lot of these games are flying way under the radar, and slap pretty damn hard.
Sure. You've got stuff many people've heard of, like A Hat in Time, Forager, and Temtem.
But then you got this other hot fire for some reason no one's talking about and's getting slept on hardcore. Like One Step From Eden, Ikenfell, Project Wingman, and Prodeus.
I have like, zero clue what's up with that. But god damn a lot of these games they're making are hitting hard as hell.
They have some misses like Aegis Defenders, THE OCCUPATION, and Floor 13: Deep State.
But one thing I appreciate, is that these games try to do something a bit different, and switch things up. And have way more respect for a game that's willing to do something new, than a mediocre game that just imitates what others do better.
And I feel like that thought it reflected in the ratings as even their worst games are rated only mixed.
Dunno why i'm saying this, but I've been paying a ton of attention to publishers like Adult Swim Games and Devolver. But honestly at this point I think i'm gonna have to add Humble Games to that now. A lot of stuff they've been publishing is some real nice stuff, and I think a lot more people need to play the game's they're publishing.
Anyways, they just dropped their Summer Sale thing. Here's a link https://www.humblebundle.com/store/promo/humble-games-summer-sale/
Maybe you'll find something that hits with you as hard as some of their games did for me.
Also if you like strategy rpgs and like the mario and luigi rpg games. Ikenfell is a solid game and I definitely recommend it. Game has no business only having 373 reviews.
tl;dr, humble games good, go play them.
Have a good day y'all.
