Mafia 2. LA Noire lagged a lot on my computer. It's a good game, but lag got the best of it for me to experience it fully. Also Mafia 2 has porn. YEYE! Playboy magazines. I also prefer the characters Vito and Joe. I love Joe.

Gross, porn. Not the type of guy who's into that . - .

Anyway, I heard Mafia 2 was simple, that it wasn't truly an open world game and that they were really no reason to explore the city. And that LA Noire had a lot more to experience, but that's just what I read.

It's Playboy magazine covers, from the '30s-'50s, so they're pretty tame, more on level with what would be called 'artistic nudity' now-a-days.

I prefer LA Noire.

Although it really is less of a game, more of an interactive movie. Kinda.

It was just more interesting. Guess I just kinda enjoyed solving stuff.

Both are great games, but I prefer being a cop over a gangster.

Aha, is that the only difference? I thought there was more to it than that~

There is more to it than that, but this is the main factor which you should base your decision from. In LA Noire you get an adventure perspective where you can spend hours without using a gun; in Mafia II you get an action perspective where you shoot all the time.

Haven't played either - but this would be part of mine as well... I prefer to be the good guy(s) ^_^

LA Noire is an adventure game.

That's actually quite helpful.

Honestly I found them both rather lackluster.

Comment has been collapsed.

You can't compare them because its a totally different genre.

Mafia 2 and GTA IV - you can
Sanctum and Orcs Must Die - you can
Call of Duty and diarrhea - you can
Skyrim and Borderlands - you can
Mafia 2 and L.A. Noire - you can't

Mafia 2 and GTA 4 are alike? Augh in that case I don't think I want Mafia 2. GTA was boring and bland. It was "lackluster" said by the person above you.

It's very similar to GTA 4, though I found GTA 4 to have a better story and encouraged people to go do whatever between missions. Mafia 2 felt very... focused, let's say.

Mafia 2 left me with a bitter taste of "unfinished rushed game". The DLC made that even clear..er.er... !

Call of Duty and diarrhea

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

This is quite accurate since I never got into FPS. Games that have shooting in it, I'm fine with, but games that purely revolve around shooting, no thank you. And that's pretty much all COD is.

Very differents games. One is just a "puzzle" game with very few action, the other is a shoot everything with cars. I like both, but I like L.A Noire since my favorite anime is Case Closed (Detective Conan).

Eh . . . I don't think I'd like a puzzle game, so thank you for clearing that up for me. I just heard there was a more to LA Noire game wise, so I thought I'd investigate. ( No puns. )

By puzzles he probably means searching for clues and figuring out whether an interrogated person is telling the truth or not.

Preffered L.A.Noire, mainly because of its engrosing story, cinematography and other stuff, but they are completely different games, just set in the same era. But I believe L.A.Noire captures the style more

You mean you've only played LA Noire so you can't recommend it over Mafia, but you do recommend it on it's own merit.

"Anyway, I heard Mafia 2 was simple, that it wasn't truly an open world game and that they were really no reason to explore the city. And that LA Noire had a lot more to experience, but that's just what I read."

Thats totally right. Mafia 2 felt like it was just unfinished. Lots of the usual side missions came as a DLC with a new character to play. Feels like they should have been part of the game in the first place, but couldn't be delivered in time, so they took the easy way out with a DLC.

I would choose LA Noire over Mafia 2 any day, but its always a matter of taste.

LA Noire is a lot of fun and nicely streamlined. It's an adventure game with bits of action in it, and it's about detective work. Mafia 2 is a not very fun GTA-style game. They're not similar, in case you thought they were. It's like comparing Zelda to Skyrim.

I only played the demo of Mafia 2, but it didn't feel quite the same as Mafia. L.A. Noire I've not beaten yet, but I'm enjoying it. But the problem does come up that it begins feeling very repetitive. Drive to crime scene. Examine clues. Drive to suspect. Talk. Point out if it's truth, doubt, or lie... etc. It's a good game, just so long as you don't mind doing the same thing over and over with only a few minor changes.

Just like what johnxfire said. It's more of an interactive movie.

Yes, it is more an interactive movie. There's not overly much you can do to change the overall story of the game, but that's not a bad thing.

Different game styles.
LAN has impressive tech behind it, but only for people, the rest of the graphics are bland and plain ugly.
While Mafia 2 does not have the same degree of freedom you get in GTA, I prefer it over LAN.
I hated that Phelps guy. I started to cringe every time I saw him talk, reason I never finished the game. Never got into the story either.
Mafia 2 on the other hand, was awesome. I love the story too (or the way it was presented to you) + the graphics were better (or I remember them that way :D )
I'd say get them both when you have the chance, but Mafia 2 first :)

L.A noire. It is an amazing game. The story is well written. The only bad thing is that they don't use the huge city as much as I wanted.
