The Stonehenge Challenge!

Where: Wiltshire, England
What: Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument consisting of a ring of standing stones set within earthworks including several hundred burial mounds.

Interesting facts:

  • There are different contradictory theories about the purpose of this complex: from the cultic and meeting place, to a religious temple (axe symbols, maternal deities, etc.)
and burial grounds (individual finds) to the astronomical observatory because some lines are aligned after the summer solstice.
  • Its construction was a 1500-year project. From around 3000BC to 1500BC
  • The large verticals and arches are made of sarsen, a type of sandstone. The smaller stones are known as bluestones.
  • The giant three-piece arches for which Stonehenge is known are called trilithons.
  • An asteroid in the asteroid belt in the solar system is named after stonehenge.

GOOD LUCK on the challenge! Create for us some breath-taking Pictures of the Stonehenge landmark for some awesome GA wins!
