Hai,

So I decided to buy a game on steam, but not for myself but as a gift, to be able to submit here. But unfortunately I can't purchase it as a gift item (which can sit in my inventory for a while), I need to select someone immediately from my friends list. I am not quite a fan of this, so my question is does anyone know how can I buy a game as a giftable item in steam?
I tried to browse through the support guides, but this feauture seems gone.

Here's the original thread on it if you wanted to read though it.

Unfortunately, as others have said, it's a thing of the past now.

As others said, the system is gone, on top of that, you can also not gift to regions that are more than 10-15% more expensive (I've heard conflicting values), so people from the US can't send gifts to people from the EU.

Nah, I did not buy it. I just wanted to buy it, but I realised I had to pick a friend and it seemed there's no way around it so as a dumb person would do when not capable of doing a single thing: I have asked.

To be honest, I am not trying to be a cheap bastard, but just to buy a good game that is around 60€ normal days, but it's now on 50% sale, so I can do a giveaway. But unfortunately it seems I can't buy it prior. I have to buy it on the day when the giveaway ends.
I hate when something good gets removed.

I don't think any of us feel that is being 'cheap', just smart! Full price or on a big sale, it's people like you who make this community float!
It's a shame they altered the system as they did, but don't worry about it. Other opportunities will come up :)

I have fond memories of being a student. Just as well Steam didn't exist back then ;) Basically, Steam decided to act after traders stocked up on cheap gifts they would resell later.

Yeah, that was changed. You could just buy games on sale on legit steam key selling sites instead, such as HumbleBundle and Fanatical. You get to keep keys safely on your account there until you decide to give it away.

You can buy digital Steam cards instead now. I think you need to have your friend on your friend list for 3 days or more and cannot trade items for 3 days after you send the digital gift card.
