I just got conned on Steam trades.

And I know I'm stupid for getting conned, but the guy I "traded" with had really good rep.

I created a support ticket, but is there any chance I'll actually get compensation or the guy will be served a hot plate of justice?

Nope you won't get compensation. Are you sure that guy wasn't a fake?

I guess be more careful in trading in the future.

Sorry for your troubles. Also, this is steamgifts.com, not steamtrades.com.

I know, but my thread would get buried by all the trading threads over there.

Out of curiosity, how much rep was good rep? and they might get trade banned and possibly suspended (unless they have done this multiple times which they may get banned, idk though). You unfortunately will not get refunded.

Enough rep to make the guy look legit. I bought Portal 2 for a couple dollars, so its not that big of a deal.

So enough fake rep to make people think he's legit? lol

Also if you paid via paypal and not as a gift, file a claim for products not received.

SteamRep really only tracks bad people, those they consider bad people and the few they consider good people.

You even don't know how the things are working there? Most trades are for keys. The only way to be sure you won't get scammed is to use tradeables, which is only important with expensive games.

I do not know? You have no idea how much I have traded in the past (especially during sales). Also, why would anyone agree to trade for a key. The trade is fully insecure.

Yes it is. And people still trade for them, scam is rare. If you do only things in life that you are 100% sure, how can you have money in the bank (it can go bankrupt), drive a car (sb can hit you or jump before your wheels), etc. etc. etc. It's all about trust, you can't avoid risk.

There might be fakes with similar names and icons although it is easier to not trade with anyone with fewer than 100 games and +5 rep also the account should be at least 2 years old

That's why i don't trade for keys unless it's someone i know. Always trade for products that way you both can accept in the trade window. If you're trading for keys you're going to get conned eventually.

Trading keys is not safe. I got bad Dead Island keys that way once.
