..so...you buy Warp on Steam, only to have to make an Origin account as well...

...I suppose that's no worse than being told to make a....whatever the Microsoft version is called, but...still...

No worse than Steam when I buy a boxed copy at the store to find out I have to install Steam.
Though I laughed at the Origin finally being on Steam. Guess that game won't have any DLC included on it, but always online? hurrr I love me some Ubisoft level of retardation of DRM.

Microsoft version is Games For Windows if you ever plan on saving a game you need to be connected to the internet. (not true for all their games, but almost all of them)

Activate online and tie to an account yes, but you can create offline profiles, at least you can for all my GFWL games.

I have no idea what this game is about, but it made me verify my age.

I was hoping for more of a "Leisure Suit Larry" type of M for Mature... not "PG13 M for Mature".

Oh wow. That's not what I was expecting at all.
I might just pick this up, if only it was $5, and not $10.

Because I am frugal.

Oh boy, wonder if that's foreshadowing Origin exclusives arrival to Steam.

As for the game I saw this game a few weeks ago on Amazon before it was released for PC, hate to get more EA games but it seems kind of neat, unfortunately one of the two user reviews for the PC version on metacritic claims it's a pretty bad PC port. Waiting on more user reviews to see what others think before I snag it.

Yeah.....just in case you hated EA and Origin, you need it open even if the game is activated on steam........wut?

That's interesting, because Steam removed Crysis 2 due to it's connection with Origin.

You didn't even read that article, did you? Quote: "Steam has imposed a set of business terms for developers hoping to sell content on that service. (...) Unfortunately, Crytek has an agreement with another download service which violates the new rules from Steam and resulted in its expulsion of Crysis 2 from Steam". It wasn't about Origin, but about not selling DLC on Steam, which made Gabe sad because of lost money.

My legalese can be misleading me, but I don't see the shocking news. INTERNET CONNECTION is required by Steam too, for the activation only, and the EA/ORIGIN ACCOUNT is required by every EA game on Steam I own, and it was before Origin came along, even if with a different denomination (EA online account).
"ACCEPTANCE OF PRODUCT AND ORIGIN END USER LICENSE AGREEMENTS" - This is a little less frequent, but I remember accepting several EULAs from third parties on Steam, mostly for "Games for Windows Live" games, such as GTA IV and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record, and I don't need to have GFWL running while playing them. And then again, it may only be about the Origin account EULA, not necessarily the Origin software.

For reference, this is the legal text from Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Steam page:
INTERNET CONNECTION, ONLINE AUTHENTICATION AND ACCEPTANCE OF END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT REQUIRED TO PLAY. ACCESS TO ONLINE FEATURES AND/OR SERVICES REQUIRES AN EA ONLINE ACCOUNT AND REGISTRATION WITH THE ENCLOSED SINGLE-USE SERIAL CODE. REGISTRATION FOR ONLINE FEATURES IS LIMITED TO ONE EA ACCOUNT PER SERIAL CODE AND IS NON-TRANSFERABLE ONCE USED. EA ONLINE TERMS & CONDITIONS AND FEATURE UPDATES CAN BE FOUND AT www.ea.com. YOU MUST BE 13+ TO REGISTER FOR AN EA ACCOUNT. EA MAY PROVIDE CERTAIN INCREMENTAL CONTENT AND/OR UPDATES FOR NO ADDITIONALCHARGE, IF AND WHEN AVAILABLE. EA MAY RETIRE ONLINE FEATURES AFTER 30 DAYS NOTICE POSTED ON www.ea.com.

DISCLAIMER: At least, I hope this is the case. Please, don't prove me wrong. :P

BC2 does not need Origin client. This game seems it does need Origin client...

Says so where, exactly?
There's no DRM listed in the product page, and no mention of the Origin client specifically in the legal notice.

Edit_ those who bought the game say I'm right. /thread

i've looked throught this thread and found that the people on it agreed to that "So to clarify, this game just requires an EA(/Origin) account login, but does not require the actual Origin client? The login I'm fine with (have had an EA account for many years), the client I'm not.", and while it dose not mention running origin to play it it dose have a strange rule about loging in to origin to play the game on steam.

I believe you misread what I wrote. I wrote Bad Company 2, does not require Origin Client when bought from Steam. I should know, spent 700+ hours on it...

"This game seems it does need Origin client..."
This is what I answered to, I know BC2 doesn't require Origin (I did not play it for 700+ hours, but my 250+ should suffice), that's why I put it there as an example.

You don't HAVE to make an accounto to play the game. Maybe you have to register the game while in game, but you don't need Origin for that. It says or said that on a lot if not all EA games sold on Steam

Wait, if I get Mirror's Edge (which is an EA game), do I have to get an account with them? And if I do, do I have to download the Origin software?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The storepage mentions a one time activation and an EA account but I don't think you have to download Origin. I am not sure but I think it is possible to use the activation key from the Steam version of Mirror's Edge to activate it on Origin. This will allow you to get the DLC which, sadly, is not available on Steam.

I own Mirror's Edge on Steam, fear not, it does not require Origin.
Not sure about the account, though, that might be needed for some online features, such as the leaderboards and/or to upload/download your/other players' "shadows" to compete against (and learn from).

Hmm...thanks for letting me know.

If it's just leaderboards, I'm okay with that, I'm not a leaderboard person. However, I'll have to see about the details I guess...
